Secret World Legends announces headstart on June 23

Good news for Secret World nomads: You are invited to move into your new digs in Secret World Legends a few days early.

Funcom announced today on Twitter that it will open up the doors to SWL on June 23rd for a headstart: “As a thank-you for your support in TSW, you are invited to a head start of Secret World Legends beginning on June 23rd!”

It is unclear whether this is open to anyone or applies only to current Secret World players and account holders. The headstart might be code for “open beta” too, since the game is running out of time to squeeze that into the testing cycle before the official June 26th launch. Who knows? The studio might even drop the NDA by then, which would be nice considering how close we are and yet have not been able to hear what testers think of this reboot.

They also stated on Twitter that anyone who logged in by 6/9 would get a beta invite. So I guess that is basically an open beta for anyone currently playing or wants to see the game, simply by logging in to existing accounts.

This makes sense then in what they mean, sounds like anyone who has logged in within the last 30 days would get a beta invite and also get head start. They were pretty quick to reply to this stuff on Twitter when I asked yesterday after it got posted.

What happened to open beta with no wipe? You want to thank people who have been loyal for 5 years, put us in an open beta. But again, like Justin suggested maybe the early access for TSW owners is the open beta? I tried to hold my nose and go through the transcript from the Reddit AMA. So very many questions still without answers. Other than telling the TSW players FC is working on stuff for us, there wasn’t really much information that was useful.

You can still (I think) reserve your name through
https://register.thesecretworld.com/account/subscription/ctrl/tsw/my_account_name/namereservation

Just replace the my_account_name with your name

Have they posted instructions on how to link accounts yet, as well as transfer over your cosmetic items?

This is what I am interested in knowing, as well.

It seems pretty straightforward. “As a thank-you for your support in TSW” implies that they are talking about TSW account holders.

They are also staggering the release so the newcomers aren’t miserable when everyone is crammed into the early areas, with lag and desyncs. It would probably help the server loads when a bunch of us have moved on to the next areas. Win – win?

So if I start playing through Funcom would I be able to keep playing that character through Steam later? If not I might just wait.

It could also be a marketing team ploy to get people invested for a month in non-steam account as means to deter them from creating a steam one.

When you run on steam, you have to give steam a cut on micro transactions.

With TSW you could use the same account you had from release using the Steam version with the caveat that you had to have bought the game on Steam. So since it’s F2P now you should probably just be able to hop over when the Steam release happens.

I mean that’s what would make sense to me, but I don’t work for Steam or Funcom though so who knows.

My gaming fund money goes into my Steam accnt. I like paying for my mmos through steam. If i remember correctly… the steam release for SWL will not come out till later?

July 31 for Steam.

I thought that 6/26 was the steam release as its only going to be available on steam.

When I get some time this weekend I’ll pull through some of the other sites I frequent and see where I tripped up, lol.

Thanks

That’s what I thought as well, but plans changed at some point last month. Their doing a launch through their own standalone launcher in June, but the Steam release was delayed a month due to competitive launches in June (they don’t want to compete against FFXIV if they can avoid it).

It was really confusing, you aren’t alone with this. Not very well communicated by Funcom in the slightest.

Thanks for the update, I appreciate it.

Thanks! I hope I can wait a month!

Since SWL is F2P you could always just play for a bit without buying anything and then once the Steam release happens then switch over to that one.

Nice. I may do that to see which weapons I want to go with

Yeah, need more clarity on who can get in and how, but this is great news. Bummed I can’t get any time off from work that week (was going to be my first vacation of the year -_-) so this would at least allow me to no-life for a few days and really dive deep into the game before the work week starts.

And now, back to waiting.
