Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood early access is live

The time has come, everyone. Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood is now available for play on PlayStation 4 and PC, assuming you pre-ordered and registered your early access code. You can log in right now and explore everything! Or you can sit at work and know there will be a queue and everyone will have Red Mage to 70 by the time you get home. One or the other.

And yes, there is a queue. At the time of this writing, an issue is also affecting instanced content, preventing certain job quests or content in the Duty Finder from being accessed, but the development team is hard at work correcting the issues. So expect issues, but also expect work on them. It’s almost like an expansion launch or something.

Of course, if you are stuck at work, you can enjoy a video tour of the expansion dungeons just past the break. And don’t worry, it’ll still be here in a little bit. There are only, like, five level-capped Red Mages so far. That’s hardly any.

Just wondering if I should bother preordering or not. Coming back to the game, but haven’t bought this xpac yet. Would like the preorder goodies, but not sure if I can still get them.

You can pre order and still get the stuff.

Pretty sure you can until the 20th. I have friends that bought the expansion today and got their pre-order codes with early access.

Square really needs to learn to bolster their server hardware. They have massive congestion and seem to have 0 overflow for anything and basically they continue to have these issues despite it being a lesson they should of learned since launch.

Dude: You waited 3 1/2 years after the PS3 hit it’s end of life to buy it. That’s crazy (it launched in 2006 for Pete’s sake, and the PS4 launched in 2013). Why didn’t you put that money into a PS4 instead?! Lol.

Yea my modem shot shit about 4 hours before stormblood maintenance. Won’t be fixed until 5-7 pm on Saturday. Thank God Comcast does weekend home calls!!! Needless to say I won’t be partaking in any world firsts lol

Being British, the “form an orderly line” mentality is strangely comforting. ;)

However, i’m going to take a nap and try to ninja through Raubahn’s Roller Coaster in the early hours when, hopefully, things may have subsided a little!

Let’s put a 15 min solo instance at the beginning of the MSQ and lock almost the entire expansion behind it when we know our instance servers have a limited capacity. Brilliant.

I love this game, but this is a major fail (imo) right out the gate. You can’t even gather and/or explore much of the new zones because of this. It’s crazy. Will try early AM….#shame

This is nothing new, as one who played from the relaunch and early access, the first week was hellish. I ended up making toons only to no be able to get on and play. But things settled down, I think this happens every time.

The Samurai hotbars are a mess. The sword-gauge spenders light up with the melee combo gold border.

So once you get high enough level, you’re gonna have 7 or 8 ability buttons with the combo border all the time, and it’s distracting as hell if they’re anywhere near your main combo line.

Happy early launch day everyone! I wont’ be joining the party yet, would like to see some first impressions of the live version of the content, but i hope everyone finds something that appeals to them.

Well, that’s about what we all expected based on the prior post asking whether people stay up late or change schedules based on video game release stuff. Heading to work shortly myself, but then I didn’t even pre-order Stormblood seeing as I never even came close to finishing Heavensward, so I’m content to wait and let things settle. Which reminds me, I hope they reduce the xp needed to level in that 50-60 bracket. I’d rather just blitz the main story and call it good without needing to constantly stop and side quest, hit the Palace of the Dead to try and catch my levels up in there, or otherwise distract myself with other methods of experience gain. Anyone know if they mentioned that?

if you transfer off to a low pop server you get I think 100% bonus? I forget if that is to 50 or 60 I think was 60 but a quick google will tell you.

Seems like the Instances are back Online for people and things are starting to smooth out :) Anyone playing themselves? How you enjoying it so far? From watching people on Twitch most people seem quite Happy though it sounds like Fates might be rewarding a bit too much XP at the new 60+ areas.

Well, reports from my friends say almost no one has made it past the first instanced MSQ. The instanced zones split groups up rather than sending them to the same instance (ie Fringes 2). For that matter, those instances don’t seem to be dynamic (aka creating more instances when crowded). The server sometimes randomly kicks you (not afk) and you wind up back in a queue of over 2k. Definitely the worst launch I’ve ever been a part of.
