Whew, after a very long day of downloading, installing, coming up with a new face (enough like Hirku 1.0 but also fresh and perhaps improved?), linking accounts, claiming my name, confirming my lifetime sub, and checking to make sure all my old items transferred over, I can finally, finally, just sit back and play the damn g-zzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
If you want to Tank in groups and take damage to the face with out dodging what class should I roll?
Punisher seems like a good choice. Both Shotgun and Hammer stack a ton of damage mitigation and hate generation, and Shotgun has some pretty decent healing abilities as well.
Demolisher and Trickster are other possibilities, though of the two Demolisher is going to be a lot sturdier.
Demolisher gives you a Blade secondary, which is technically a DPS weapon, but it has some good self-healing support if you like to be relatively independent. Hammer, as in the Punisher build, gives you a ton of damage mitigation and hate.
Trickster is, I think, more of a “solo survival” kind of build, with a side of utility support in groups — both Chaos and Pistols offer a decent amount of purge effects, both for removing beneficial ones off enemies and detrimental ones off allies, and Chaos layers some CC on top of its hate generation. But Chaos is still supposed to be a viable tanking weapon, so yeah.
I have to admit i like it so far. Went with magus class. Elemental/Chaos Class. Never played Chaos magic and its really fun. Still want to pickup Blade though.
It’s there no way to start a character with whatever two weapons you want? I was hoping for a shotgun/blood magic guy.
If you link a TSW account, you can switch your secondary for something else and be out only 5 AP. Not the greatest, but not a huge punishment either.
They clearly wanted to avoid the situation that came up in TSW where people were making non-viable builds and giving up when they got to the Blue Mountains. They arguably went just a little too far in the other direction, though.
(A very common request during beta was the ability to experiment with other weapons in your faction training area and change your weapon selections before leaving. Maybe that’ll happen some day, but it didn’t happen for launch.)
They really should patch in a ‘whatever combo’ choice, even if still just two.
Its still there, the “classes” are just starter packages for new players. You can combo any weapons you want.
Not at first if you’re a new player (not Legacy).
10ks of Marks to get a 3rd weapon.
If you transfer your account from TSW you get all weapons unlocked.
But that doesn’t change you having to “start” with a specific two weapons, but you can change once you get out of the intro.
Same here, it’s pretty disappointing.
Well my TSW login isn’t working :(
Mine worked fine, but now I cannot get into TSW!
Me neither. I started up TSW and the patcher promptly upgraded it to SWL…
I tried to download TSW again from my TSW account page. The installation program warned me that I already have an installation, but I disregarded that warning. Let’s see how this works, it’s installed in a new folder and the patcher is running and still looking like the old TSW :)
Edit: I’m not too hopeful. All program files in my new installation of TSW have SWL icons.
Okay, I found some useful info here. Think I won’t bother until tomorrow though :)

Edit: Scrap the “tomorrow” part, haha..
The quickest fix is to just download the LocalConfig.xml file linked from your TSW account page and save it in your TSW game folder. Here’s a direct link, the file download itself does not need you to log in (right-click and select “save as”):
http://cdn.funcom.com/downloads/tsw/client/LocalConfig.xml
After that, run the patcher again and you’ll be back to TSW after a few downloads.
I had to reset my password for it to work for anyone else that runs into this.
Same for me.
