Funcom: What, you clicked your The Secret World icon wanting to play TSW? Did you hear we have this new one called Legends? It’s great! It’s so great, we’ll go ahead and “upgrade” and overwrite your current TSW client to SWL without warning or permission! We know you didn’t *really* want to play TSW!

It’s like they went to the Windows 10 School of Patching.

More like “we don’t plan on keeping this game up for much longer, to ease the burden we are “gently” encouraging to play the other version which we abandoned this one for. Don’t worry, we’ll install the new client for you. There you go, now go level again! Don’t forget to check out the cash shop!”

Funny thing is there is no actual “cash shop” like there was in TSW it is all baked into the various parts of the UI organically so to speak

The next level of cash shop!

Something has to explode during launch or it’s just not a Funcom game. It’s a Funcom tradition.
Amazing job turning this game around Funcom, grats! I’m so hooked, can’t remember the last time i couldn’t stop playing. Did a 12 hour session Saturday and most peeps in the guild even more.
Always loved the game but the changes and features like visual detection, wearing a uniform for the airport, and yes the combat… Damn! this game got good!

Kind of agree. I am enjoying myself quite a bit more with the combat and upgrading seems a lot more intuitive as well.

Now they need an official forum for this version of the game. The TSW forums are filled with bitter veteran players and Reddit is just a cesspool of scum.

For me at least, it’s less about the whole cesspool of scum bit and more about it being a poor source for finding information in a quick and convenient manner. Trading in a centralized official forum for a bunch of scattered sources like Reddit, Twitter, and Discord (whatever the hell that is) is just going to undo the increased ease of use that they spent all this time building into the game.

Not that I’m knocking MOP at all (luv ya guys, mwa! mwa!) but the fact that I now consider this outside news website to be my best source of updates about SWL is rather pathetic.

After getting in some more play time, I’ve discovered something that really puts me off. It’s an issue that results from three factors.

1) You cannot choose during character creation which primary and secondary weapon you’d prefer to use. You must select from only a few preset combinations.

2) Access to new weapon ability pages can only be unlocked with Marks Of Favor or Aurum.

3) New players only get access to one character slot without spending Aurum.

What this adds up to is that any new player who would like to try out various weapon types or combinations to get a feel for what they’d like to play must spend a bunch of cash or do a ridiculous amount of grinding. Creating and deleting characters over and over to try out the preset weapon combinations is an option, although a very crappy one, but you’d still have to grind or pay to get anything beyond the presets which only represent a small number of the available combinations. On top of that you’re required to spend skill points earned through play to buy individual abilities and passives once you unlock access to the weapon skill pages.

I’m really just dumbfounded by the choices that have created this situation. I’ve never had an issue spending money on games that I like to play. But without sufficient access I can’t get to the point to even determine if I want to spend money. This is too much gating far too early for me to feel good about paying to play SWL.

On a purely selfish level as a “veteran” non of those things affect me personally but yeah there are some questionable choices that makes me wonder about the whole attracting new players thing. I am not sure they have got the balance correct or that the game just won’t just frustrate folks again but with the frustration caused by different things to TSW this time round.

I hope not as I really do want to see this be successful enough so that we can see that continuation in the story but yeah more tweaks needed imo. Make folks want to spend money because they have fun not force them to spend money to find the fun.

So after downloading the wrong version of Secret World twice, both from Steam and through the website, I finally am patching Legends so I can check it out… sometime this week, lol.

I think Funcom really did a good job with this revamp and i’m surprised by it. Loving the new combat system too. The downtime was do to exploiters and the patch notes says they banned a good amount of players.

I like SWL, truly. They changed my mind completely about the gameplay changes. But everything else about this launch has been so utterly FUBAR it leaves me feeling not very confident about its chances for success.

Funcom makes me worry so so much, cause I love what they do, I just dont love the way they do it.

Hey they always pull it out in the end and that’s all that matters. Anarchy, Conan… even a relaunch, it’s more a tradition at this point.

The day Funcom launches an MMO without something going terribly wrong is probably the day I win the lottery.

Funcom: interesting games, horrible launches.
