Dual Universe winds down founder packs, posts planet-to-moon seamless flight footage

If you haven’t picked up a founder pack for Dual Universe, you’re going to want to rectify that soon. Novaquark wrote in a recent Kickstarter newsletter that it plans to end the purchase of founder packs come September 7th, the anniversary of the sci-fi sandbox’s successful Kickstarter.

“Obviously we couldn’t extend it forever and now it’s time to move on to the next stage,” writes the studio. “After September 7th, we will temporarily disable the Crowdfunding portal. No new pledges or upgrades will be possible once the portal is disabled. We will reopen the Crowdfunding Portal later in Q4 2017 with new Supporter Packs. Supporter Packs will include different rewards than Founder Packs and the Lifetime Subscription reward won’t be available anymore.”

So how’s the game itself coming along? Not too shabbily; this week Novaquark posted pre-alpha footage of a ship flying seamlessly from a moon to its planet. That seems to be a theme today, yeah?

While all the procedural generation in these games are really cool, what makes Duel Universe shine is that these orbital bodies are voxel like. You can dig down beneath the surface, make a mountain of material (dirt) and completely customize your building experience whether is dirt, metals, liquids or atmosphere. I love what Novaquark is trying to do as its not like Star Citizen or any other space ‘sim’. The creativity level of this game appears to rival any game we’ve seen to date.

there not voxel like, they are voxels, apparently its quite hard to get a voxel planet to even move because voxels dont have physics or something which is why NMS stuff floats in mid air. is pretty decent how you can make pretty much any ship you want but unless it has changed or will change in the future theres no ship to ship combat at launch or as they put it construct to construct

edit: nvm they hit that stretch goal for ship to ship combat

This looks like NMS containing possible encounters with other players.

in the context of star citizen is it not really fucking weird for cf/ks games to “wind down” their presales?

i can’t be alone in feeling this.

Notice that a lot of KS games are avoiding “stretch goal” due to the creep that Star Citizen gets so much flak for. That game is at least 2+ years [I think] past it’s original launch projections because of how much they hyped it, how much they let customers spend like crazy towards it, and how many extra things they kept tacking on just to try to sell another digital spaceship to customers. There’s such thing as getting out of hand and Star Citizen did that with spectacular fashion.

There’s also a common misconception with consumers in that “if I throw more money at the project, it’ll get done faster and I’ll have the game sooner.” I’m sure developers have a distaste for such mentality because it effects the project with negativity when delays happen due to coding, networking, or whatever other issues may arise.

as far as i see most kickstarters have stretch goals

“Extra things”=awesome!

I’m sure developers might have that distaste.
Accountants however don’t.
That aside, the game itself still has my interest.
