Guild Wars 2’s gem store gets a huge overhaul

Have you ever found yourself in this situation: You are flush with cash and desperately want to dump it on Guild Wars 2, but you find the store interface too confusing or obtuse, so you end up buying insurance and stock options instead? Well, that sort of regrettable scenario is a thing of the past, as today the game introduced an overhauled gem store to the playerbase.

Gem Store 2.0 offers a more intuitive and robust shopping experience. The new store includes a faster interface, a better search function, revised categories, improved sorting, and more preview options to help you decide whether or not to make that purchase.

having to pay to access previous living story episodes killed the game for me. It was supposed to be buy to play, if I log in every week and do the story it is, but if I cant for some reason…I have to pay to go back? what the fuck.

That and obsession with the worst kind of no fun grindy shit, and RNG lox boxes coming out of their arse, and Anet lost me.

A nice UI cant change the fact its covering a pile of shit.

Oh good. I was so desperate to throw my money at them. Gods, if I could just let them screw me out of my money a little harder for shit like being able to customize my character with armor skins I’ve earned, I would be so happy.

If you can’t tell, I’m still REALLY bitter that you have to have transmutation charges to change your armor design. The only thing to earn IS armor skins, and I can’t even play around with the ones I rightfully earned because of stupid greed.

Hop into WvW every once in awhile, I know its not the perfect solution and Anet really needs to add reliable ways to earn these in PVE content (fractals relics or magnetite shards plz) but you can easily get a nice stockpile going even with minimal time investment.

GW2 has always had some of the best UI and QoL features. Like being able to break down the thousands of items you get and store away the piles of crafting mats from anywhere. I sincerely wish more games did that. Unlimited crafting tools. Large expandable storages.

These days such options are fairly common but back when GW2 launched not so much. Function is something I can almost always justify spending money on. Probably was the thing which turned me from a subscription fanatic to an avid MTX supporter. In the before time when all we had was subs UI and QoL upgrades would be regulated to sometime between Soon™ and never.

Finally they’ve put all gliders in the style category, instead of declaring them as “upgrades”

Also put ressources gathering tools under utility, while still keeping them in upgrade section at the same time, as you don’t need to restock them anymore!

But I still miss any warning labels on things, that I’ve already bought and are account wide accessible, since if you want to gift them, there is a whole different buttom for that, which doesn’t need to have a warning!

So those new World vs World rewards they were touting for players? Yeah, no.

Participation decay timers have been adjusted so that players must be more active to keep participation from decaying.

Where defending your own objectives is a cornerstone of successful gameplay and they properly addressed it the previous patch, is now nerfed.

Check out the patch thread’s top posts to get the jest of how silly Arenanet can be.

Game Update Notes – July 11, 2017 from Guildwars2

They fix things then break them again next patch. It’s a pattern and it’s getting rediculous.

Arenanet! No more money for you! GW2’s progression is like running on a treadmill for eternity, but staying fat as ever.

Is LW Season 3 Episode 6 in the Gem Store, well then thanks for pushing back that release by working on an overhaul no one asked for?

You don’t know anything about GW2 development, do you? They have different teams. A gemstore team, an LS team, etc.

What does the UI- or marketing team has to do with the development of an episode? If any, only at the very end of the pipeline! ;P

In the short term, you are absolutely correct.

In the longer term, over a budget cycle, BT is correct. Someone, presumably the wife of the CEO and president of NCWest, writes a number in a spreadsheet and that is the AN budget. And then it is a zero sum game; $1 spent on X is $1 less than can be spent on something not X.

That would imply, that an UI, especially the one UI window, where most of the transactions actually happen, doesn’t deserve any money spent on for improvements, which of course is nonsense.

And now that we know the release date of episode 6 is even ahead of schedule, there is no need to critique something non-existent. ;P

The last episode of Guild Wars 2’s living world season 3 arrives July 25

Yeah because the game user interface people are the same people who make the living story episodes and your comment makes total sense. That was sarcasm in case you missed it.

Mind you I was really hoping we’d get an episode 6 trailer today too. It’s not that I need to play episode 6 next week, I have plenty to do in game. But I really want to start hearing about the new expansion and I really want them to get on with it already.

It does makes sense that they’d want to make the gem store easier to use before they announce the new expansion.

But the cutscenes in the new gemstore are to die for!

Whenever I have money to spend and want to dump it into GW2, the items I want are nowhere to be found because they only bring them out for 2 weeks each year…

Agreed. It’s an exclusively trait that plays into player loyalty and economy trends to tempt people into buying RNG boxes (black lion keys) so they can sell those items on the player market. It’s annoying.
