Secret World Legends update continues the main story

Boy, the Secret World Legends story is just clocking right along, isn’t it? The game’s latest update continues past the end of the “Mortal Sins” mission, so players can start exploring the events leading up to what takes place in Tokyo. You could argue, of course, that the story is clocking right along because it had a very long lead time in the form of The Secret World and just needs to catch up, but we’re choosing to read this as a new regular rate.

By this time next year, the game will be taking us to the moon.

The patch also contains a few quality-of-life improvements, such as ensuring that Elite dungeons will always drop blue distillates or better rather than green distillates. There’s also a new option for PayPal to be used as a payment method, so that’s another nice little bonus. Enjoy the new story continuation and keep shooting your way on through the game. Seriously, in a year it’s the moon.

After soloing Polaris the drops were so disappointing I don’t think I will bother with another dungeon.

Leveling Deadmines runs can be disappointing too.

Well, not getting there until later July or August.

I hit 39 this evening and rolling through content at a slow pace. I’ve leveled further in SWL than I ever did in TSW, and loving the stories. My only problem is some stories are too creepy and horrific to digest fast! I’ve back off to playing 1-2 hrs every 1-2 nights. Still loving it! But I’m not numb enough to all the horror!

Found out the Blue Mountain mines still affect me. I’m numb to Kingsmouth, used to Savage Coast, but I guess I still got some fright left.

I have been away from TSW for more than a few years now. Came back to TSWL and am loving rolling through this game again. Its like re-reading a favourite old book. I’m hooked… again.

That headline is painting a much too optimistic picture. we’re still looking at 4-5 year old content from the classic game here.

And in this classic game, Funcom didn’t even bother to turn on the anniversary event.
Also, they almost forgot the AO anniversary and do nothing to curb the exploiters in AO but still take 17,19€ for a single month.

Im not even out of kingsmouth yet, to much FF14 time >_<

So I started TSW a year behind everybody else, now I started SWL during the headstart and I’ll probably wind up two years behind, heh. I’m just having too much fun taking my time and smelling the Filthy roses. 2018 as a target for completely new story content sounds fine by me.

What do you mean? There are other ways to play?

Apparently so, considering the number of 50’s I see running around when we’re less than a month in.

Yea about that, being in a guild with people who only play SW since the original launch, i can understand their perspective, they’ve done all this content over and over on alts and so on. They just want to get back closer to where they were in the dead version.

They don’t rush anyone they are the ones preaching take your time enjoy the content it’s the best mmo content their is and if i and many other members want to start doing epics just let them know.

I feel a very long amazing run with this game is in store, there’s nothing better than dedicating to an mmo. This bouncing around different mmo’s isn’t how an mmo is supposed to be played.

Sure the comradery is awesome but it’s the depth they know the game and the lore, dunno i just read their convo’s at times and learn so much it just immerses me so much more into SW.

Honestly, I hit 50 before I even got to the second half of Egypt. Leveling isn’t even about story progression, you can do it jut by doing lots of the side content as you go.

Yeah, starting on Egypt and I’m level 41. That’s with going through each area and doing all the missions one time, killing the champion and world boss mobs, three dungeon runs a day to use up my keys, and grabbing the lore I come across while doing those things. I’d still be in the high 30’s without the Patron XP bonus. Really the only thing I care about from Patron is the double AP/SP.

I was low too, tbh and i regret it now i essentially skipped Kingsmouth due to so many reattempts at TSW and always burned out by BM. I have to go back and wrap up KM if i only knew back then how much better SWL was going to be.

TOO SOON, EXECUTUS!

No, but seriously. Most players probably aren’t even level 50 yet.
I just hit level 41 last night and I have Grand Master +XP, have been skipping cut scenes that I’ve already seen etc.

They should have waited.

I hit the Egypt wall again, just like my first TSW playthrough. Between my dislike of that zone and ongoing issues with the monetization/design changes it’s getting hard to motivate myself to log in for more than a mission or two at a time.

But I guess I need to carve out some time to just push through it all, I really do want to keep up with content as it’s “fresh” in SWL, since I was so late to the game in TSW.

Reader
Chris Walker

Am I the only one who is enjoying Egypt? I’m picking up every side mission and hunting down all the elite mobs so I can fully explore the atmosphere of the region. The downside of doing that is I feel like I’m leveling too fast.

I always enjoyed Egypt in TSW. I found it interesting that so many didn’t.

Reader
kidwithknife

I like Egypt. I think the trouble with Egypt, and Blue Mountain for that matter, are not so much that they’re bad zones and more that Kingsmouth and Savage Coast are so crazy good that they set the bar really, really high.

Reader
BDJ

That also nets you 10 AP / 10 SP for doing all 3. Its worth it.

To earn the 10 AP/SP reward, you also need the achievements for the (soloable) champions, the exploration and possibly the zone dungeon.

Reader
BDJ

Thats correct.

All Champions
All Quests and sidequests (this includes the dungeon quest)

This is all I had to do. I have areas unfinished exploration wise I think. It might be that I just didnt notice because doing all quests gets you the exploration automatically.

I enjoy Egypt very much.

Reader

Greaterdivinity

Maybe. I fully clear out zones as best as I can while leveling (all side missions, every named I come across etc.), but it’s just such a chore in Egypt for some reason.

Large part is likely my general dislike of desert zones, but I also wasn’t terribly thrilled with the directly over each zones arc/the overall arc for those zones, either.

And yes, overleveling by doing all side stuff, especially as a patron, is a definite thing. It wasn’t an issue in TSW in the slightest, but it’s actually kinda frustrating in SWL : /

Reader
Chris Walker

Yeah I almost wish I could turn off getting leveling XP from quests as a patron.

As for the zone itself, I’m a big fan of desert themes, so perhaps that partially explains my enjoyment of Egpyt.

Reader

Greaterdivinity

I mean…I don’t want to lose out on the extra AP/SP from the bonus experience, but adding in hard-levels and a lot of the changes to gearing definitely created a level-related issue where none had existed prior.

Reader
Geoffrey Smith

You could outgear things really easily before as well. If you pushed QL high enough fast enough, you could undermine content.

Reader
Kickstarter Donor
Greaterdivinity

Absolutely. But you had to put effort into doing that, especially before BB was rewarded for most missions, making getting QL10 etc. weapons super easy.

But as I said, it was something you specifically had to aim for. I made it all the way through to Tokyo using only gear that I got from missions/zone vendors, so it was never anything I encountered even while fully clearing zones as best I could.

It’s completely unavoidable now in SWL, at least if you want to fully clear out zones, which I very much do.

Reader
Geoffrey Smith

I’d argue you are hard pressed to out level any zone in any game if your goal is to do all the content in the zone.

Truthfully, I just see the leveling in SWL as beside the point. I mean, since you still get XP/AP/SP once at max level, it is almost superfluous. Gear is still the thing for the most part.

I’m in Egypt as well. Level 41 doing the time travel business for Said.

Reader

Eyyy, that’s about the level I am. Haven’t gotten to that bit yet, but despite my love of Said I have distinctly negative memories of that mission (with the Roman soldiers…right?)…hopefully I’m misremembering : /

Reader

Yeah, you put on the worshiper garb and head in, avoiding the very Roman looking guards.
It’s hilarious because I completed the first couple tiers without even having the costume. Eventually I couldn’t progress just by sneaking around and figured out that I needed the garb. xD

Dug From The Earth

Im in a very similar the same boat.

After finishing the first story mission tiers in Blue Mountains, I went to Egypt and was just sorta like “Meh”. The new story line just doesnt hold my interest, and Egypts zone is just overall boring and lacks much of that “dark conspiracy” feel that the first 3 zones had.

Im also at the point in the games new skill advancement where I just dont care anymore. Ive unlocked ALL the skills for my primary and secondary weapons, and all of the passives that I want to slot on my (limited) passive bar. The only thing left for me to earn at this point are the passives you dont slot (things like +19 to hit rating, or +50 to armor). Sure, I could start acquiring abilities in another weapon or two, but I simply dont want to. Ive got the 2 weapons I want to use, and now there is little to no progression for me in the game.

Not to mention, despite having ALL the weapon abilities for my primary and secondary weapons, I still feel horribly limited by the types of realistic builds I can create. There are too many abilities that are just underwhelming or completely impractical to have on my bar, even IF my bar had room.

I absolutely HATE the loot system. 99% of the things in game dont drop loot. This is horrible IMO. Dungeons are nearly just as bad. 90% of what i get in a dungeon (when i have keys — im a patron and still run out), are nothing but the potions that you use to upgrade your existing items. When I DO get a new item, its often worse than what I have, or simply not worth spending the time and money to upgrade it to where my current items are at.

The loot system in this game simply wasnt tuned and balanced enough to go live. Its boring and uninspired, and feels like it holds you back. It makes you not want to swap to a possibly better item because of the ridiculous task needed to get new gear up to the current state of your currently equipped items. Just all around meh.

All these things make it very hard for me to muster up the incentive to push through Egypt.

Reader
Geoffrey Smith

The strangeness I am having with the builds right now is that it is abundantly clear they are all self contained and totally unnecessary to leveling. You can more or less just slot whatever for leveling purposes (making sure to have some self healing) and you will be fine. And since you don’t have bizarre situations anymore where you are like, slotting a fist passive for an assault rifle build, how to make a build is more straightforward.

The thing is, it just isn’t necessary until you do group content at par with your level/gear. It just isn’t. And then, you are mostly just building around a single weapon. You don’t even really need two, even for energy management purposes.

Generally I am fine with this, and it cuts out a LOT of the annoying things about the ability wheel. But it is much, much different from before.

Reader
Theodrax

I’m not to Egypt yet, but even in the pre-Egypt zones I’m seeing a trend that makes mea gree with you. I like that the loot system is relatively simple, but that doesn’t have to mean it’s boring and tedious. I’m only in the second zone, and while I haven’t fully filled out my weapons, I’ve gotten to the key powers I want. Not sure where else to go with skills.

I play this game for the story, and I love it for that story, but the mechanics are still more of an impediment to my enjoyment.

I can relate to that, it is my least favourite region in the game. I metaphorically held my nose so to speak while I pushed through it to get to Transylvania, my favourite region in the game.

On the bright side they have put in some short cuts in the City of the Sun Gods to make travelling around a little less painful (temporary portals and jump pads.) The difference is still like being punched in the gut or the face. Either way it will still be painful but at least it will be over a little quicker.

I’m really enjoying Secret World Legends, but I think it’s more despite FunCom, rather then because of them.
