Albion Online expands its launch rollout

Some MMOs have launch days, but some MMOs are not Albion Online, which is claiming a good chunk of this week to officially release this long-awaited fantasy sandbox. You see, yesterday only admitted legendary pack purchasers, while today allowed in the epic crowd and tomorrow will see veteran founders join in the fun.

This staggered release is probably helping to keep the game more stable than it might have been otherwise. There were some initial login issues, but the team reports that it (mostly) cleared those up quickly. There have been a few other problems, like missing learning points and players being able to farm gear out of their league, but for the most part it looks like things are going relatively smoothly for this launch.

Conspiracy sidebar: Did Jagex announce RuneScape’s mobile adaptation this week to take some of the wind out of the sails of Albion’s release? Your call on that one.

Anyway, check out the launch trailer and eight quick tips for starting out in this game after the break!

My biggest issues with this game continue to be in place, which is a shame:

1. There’s simply too many limits on progression. Much of the progression is based on you having Learning Points to “skip ahead” progression but when those run out (and they run out fast whether you specialize or not) you’re basically boned. You can keep grinding, but at the amount of fame/hr you get usually this isn’t even remotely worth your time (think: amount of grinding that puts BDO to shame).

2. More importantly, there’s no way to respec your character. So that means if you’ve invested 4 months of learning points into a particular weapon/armor and find out you gotta switch because of a balance update or a meta update or find out something else is needed you’re basically SOL. This is big in a game that revolves around competition and needs to do balance updates. Did you not really think and invest too heavily into gathering tools right off the bat and now you’re stuck in T4 gear because you can’t afford the combat upgrades? Too bad!

3. Numbers = Winning. Albion Online is a Massively Multiplayer Pyramid Scheme. The “bottom” (gatherers) has to feed upward to the “middle” (crafters, ZvZ fighters) which in turn feeds the money/gear they farm to the “top” (gvg teams, hellgate teams). So the bigger the base of your pyramid the more gear/focus you can pour upward where smaller groups are going to have to struggle to keep up with that once their supply is out. They also wear game attrition as well. Because of points 1 and 2, lets say your Iron Ore specialist gatherer/smelter decides to quit the game. A bigger guild can simply replace them and probably has a few backups, but a smaller guild who relied on that crafter is simply devastated and it’s going to take months to get someone else caught up.

It’s a shame because they have made quite a bit of progression on the game from what I can tell in various areas, but seems like in many cases they’ve actually regressed backwards on the above topics.

I was watching a stream of this last night and its was painful to watch, the whole point and click to move thing was kind of cringey and didn’t look or feel organic especially when watching a mounted player sort of drifting all over via mouse clicks, but worse was the SHEER amount of players on a screen at any time it was laggy as all hell in cities, and the outside was no better, so overpopulated that in 20 mins of watching I only saw one non player mob, that is how totally over farmed that particular area the streamer was playing in.

Hopefully once the NEWness wares off a little things will get a little easier to see in order to ascertain if the game is worth a decent look or not as crowds will have significantly thinned out by then.

Game just needs WASD movement.

Gotta have 3D. I don’t what it is. That three quarter view is just killing it for me. Pretty game. I’m sure the game is fully fleshed out and will make a great MMORPG for those who like simple grind and PvP.

Lost Ark though, I could probably do. Stunning. http://massivelyop.com/2017/07/18/lost-ark-shows-off-new-zones-including-one-that-takes-place-on-the-body-of-a-slumbering-giant/

I didn’t mind the art style nor the view but the walking/running/riding animations really made it look cheap to me. And I normally don’t care as much for that type of thing.

I don’t want the game to fail hopefully it has some legs and morphs into something else – we’ll see.

you’re missing the Gankbox tag up there, love how you guys pick n’ choose which Gankbox’s you tag.

My impressions from watching Twitch today: It looks like a mobile game. An endless grinder where you endlessly fight over a few scraps of land to gather more resources to fight over more scraps of land. For some reason.

Who cares what I think but that’s it.

Agreed. We’ve seen this endless loop before. These are the types of games that make one feel like they logged into their second job.

I played for a weekend awhile ago, got my money back real fast. Nothing but a Gankbox grinder for sociopaths to prey on the weak. Not sure why the “Sandbox” tag is up there, this game aint no damn sandbox, not even close.

You arent’ the target audience of this sandbox. Go back to your pve brawlers where you do quest alone till the cap then leave bored after a week because there is nothign left to do.
Players who like a little of fear and play with friends will play here, 250 000 players already choose this true mmorpg over the next wow clone single player game masked as mmo.

Have you played Albion? Do you like it? Can you tell me why?

I am sincerely asking. I’d drop $30 on it if I thought there was something more than collecting rocks and waiting for a gank.

You start with the wrong question and blatantly prejudice, if you think this game is just gathering and ganks then there is nothing i can tell to convince you, stay away please and play your redundant solo-PVE themepark clone.

You posted to my original post which is where I stated I got my impressions from watching streams. I asked you if it was different.

But don’t bother now. My mind is made up about this piece of garbage.

This prove my point, you already give up in the first place, no matter what i say, you have a baseless prejudice. Have fun into your next piece of wow copypaste anonymous park.

Moolarurka .

I like a little of fear and to play with friend and I love world pvp but I wouldn’t touch this because it lacks factions and without factions for the most part ( with a few exceptions ) these sort of games end up having an antisocial community with people who will attack you on sight .

I like knowing who is a friend and who is an enemy and I like a friendly community even more .

What is wrong with creating your own faction and choosing your own friends (and enemies) instead of arbitrarily being assigned “friends” whether they are nice or not simply because you happened to pick the same faction? Seems like you want to be assigned friends rather than actually making friends.

“Seems like you want to be assigned friends rather than actually making friends.”

Seems like you want to fight in an MMO instead of an actual war.

“Seems like you want to fight in an MMO instead of an actual war.”

I don’t even… Are you trying to argue that you prefers actual wars over games? Or are you saying that you prefer artificial friends over real ones? Because you can’t have both with your logic.

other games like Archeage or Black Desert have same “sandbox” tag in this website while are simple theme park. Albion isnt sandbox, you right, but is more sandbox than those korean shits
