Absolver begins PC and PS4 preorders ahead of August 29 launch

Absolver came out of nowhere last year, not quite an MMO but with a lot of the stock online multiplayer RPG trappings, with a special emphasis on its detailed mix-and-match combat. If it’s on your radar, you might consider the game’s newly unveiled preorders.

“Starting today eager combatants that preorder Absolver on PlayStation 4 or PC will receive 10 percent off the base $29.99 price, the Labyrinth Prospect mask, and Uring Priest gear set. The most ardent fans can preorder the limited small batch physical Absolver Collector’s Edition from Special Reserve Games for $74.99, which includes an ultra premium, wearable Prospect mask with display stand, a 52-page The Art of Absolver book, and sticker pack in addition to a PlayStation 4 disc or PC download via Steam.”

The game is still expected to launch on August 29th for PC and PS4. An Xbox One release was referred to in the press materials from E3, but no date for that has been announced.

I’m not touching this until I hear some reviews of people who have actually played the game. Looks pretty bare bones feature-wise.

Its always a little worrisome when a game is this close to release, and the company is still enforcing a strict NDA.

Follow that up with how none of the videos show actual gameplay, just spotlighted moments (mostly all combat). No real details on PvE content or gameplay at all. Info is lacking so much that there are even threads of people asking if this game is a “For Honored” clone (which its very much not.)

Devs need to be a LOT more open and transparent this late in the game. Especially if they want preorders.

having been in a CB and not caring about the NDA… it was either basically a demo, or the PvE content is extremely limited. ~3 areas with about a dozen fights each that all feel really similiar. first one didn’t even seem to have a boss. (side note: “boss” is basically just a regular guy with more hp). most fights can be cheesed by walking backwards when waiting for stam to recharge.

ZERO cosmetic customization. can’t even pick your hair. how you look is based on your fighting style and your gear (some pieces are just strictly better than others too, so…)

oh, and there’s nothing you can do to stop people from ganking you right after a tough fight.

I was keen to check it out, and the combat is a lot of fun, but after how incredibly shallow the test was it is no longer something I’d consider playing even if it was free. YMMV.

Excellent — and thanks for your bluntness!

well to be fair there wasn’t that many open trials for testers(atleast big ones) besides the one from last month.

and from what I have played i will confirm it is not a For Honor clone its abit more detailed than For honor when it comes to combat.
and there is PVE and it will kick your azz real well

Looks like a good game to play outside of MMOs. I wonder how it plays w/ mouse & keyboard, as My Steam controller probably isn’t deft enough for this.

its actually easier to play with a controller than a mouse and keyboard lol

While it looks interesting, I didn’t see anything RPG-ish about it.

cause they haven’t shown that yet

Absolver is definitely on my radar. It kinda looks like if For Honor and ICO had a baby or something.
