Dark and Light adds servers, patches up as it gets slammed on Steam early access

Of this there is no doubt: The Dark and Light team is getting very little sleep this week.

The reworked fantasy sandbox released on Steam Early Access yesterday, and it went as these things typically do. There were a lot of players crowding onto the servers to see what the deal was (5,508 people at one point), and the hardware took a clobbering.

The team thanked players for their patience and said that it is adjusting to the influx of population: “It’s been quite a launch day! We’re still adding servers and working on alleviating issues in higher-population servers, as well as supporting additional regions.”

Meanwhile, Snail has this afternoon implemented a brand-new patch meant to address some of the launch’s issues.

This game is really good already, if you believe all those fake negative reviews, you are the problem in gaming today. Game has tons more to do already compared to many other survival games and its no clone….

Is every game on unreal engine 4 a clone of eachother? This game only shares the same engine and some assets with ARK, but its not the same game at all.

Nope, not a mmorpg, istanced and limited players, an Ark clone. Sayonara!

Dark and light is great… good fun
might want to stear clear for a few weeks for the first of the heavy user bugs to settle down

then once all is good its actually better than ark in many ways
and similar to ark too… if you like ark you will love this

This isn’t even a game yet. Even for EA this was released to soon. CE came out in way better shape then DnL did.

I stopped doing steam early access after Day Z…….

I still will fall for the occasional KS, but I’m getting better at choosing. SC and AoC… No, Crowfall and CU…. Yes.

We’ll see how my bets pay down the line.

This game…. No a chance in hell. I’ll wait till the game launches…. IF it launches.

YOu need to watch more streams, this game is already very good. People playing it on stream showing its fully playable and fun. That is more than what the games you are saying you already paid for can say up til now.

It got slammed hard on launch day with the downvote bombing, but now with 2/3 of the recent user reviews on Steam being positive, its score will likely continue to raise up quickly.

not an MMO, so I’m not interested.

Has Snail Games ever made anything good?

Age of Wushu is a fantastic game marred by an absolutely atrocious monetization scheme.

I really Age of Wushu till I hit the pay wall. Once you got your skills up to a certain point you weren’t going to advance in a timely fashion without spending money. Before I hit that point though I enjoyed the combat, the travel skills, and the crafting challenges which were basically mini games presented a fun variation on crafting compared to other MMOs.

every single one of their games has failed after a while.
what they do is make it look all nice and amazing and then later on when they update they mess everything up

Ark has been pretty consistently in the top ranks of played games on steam for a very long while and sold well over 5 million copies across 3 platforms. Microsoft has picked it to be one of its featured titles for the Xbox 1X as well. Not sure that qualifies as a failure really.

Its 7th atm on steams played chart: http://steamcharts.com/

Ark isn’t snails game.

age of wushu, black gold, taichi panda and a ton of bad auto path mobile games those are all the games snail has made that have gotten anywhere.

and all of them failed badly even worse they made a mobile version of age of wushu they made nearly the exact same game with slightly different stuff and put it up.

they sell off weapon skins in age of wushu worth 24K in usd.
the starting price to get to end game where people are is close to 1k in usd in most of snails games.
and if you don’t have the money you aren’t gonna win at anything pvp or pve

only thing we can do is hope snail doesn’t snail dark and light later down the road

Ark isn’t snails game.

Wildcard was bought by Snail Games in December of 2015 or roughly 6 months after the game was launched into Early Access on steam.

Snail Games USA Acquired Studio Wildcard, Developer of ARK, In December, 2015

Even Massively has written about this you know.

I don’t know why people still buy into that Early Access Survival bs. Even Dayz, the game which started it all™ isn’t out of early access yet. It’s strange to see that unfinished survival games are sort of mainstream as the games itself often don’t offer much besides rudimentary crafting, pvp and hunger/thirst mechanics. I truly have to admit that I don’t get it. I never was into Moba’s before and after LoL blew up but I can see the appeal but with survival games? Most are such pitiful shells of a game which can be done with a minimum of work.

You don’t get it, that’s cool, and your post with lack of actual facts proves it. Some of these games offer a ton more than “rudimentary crafting, pvp and hunger/thirst mechanics.” Not your bag, thats completely cool, but you only show your ignorance when you make blanket posts like this.

Reader
Koshelkin

Uh, like what? Never saw anything in any of these games I’d call more than rudimentary. If it’s basebuilding, taming, crafting, leveling system, combat. Why would you want factual proof for an opinion. I played Ark and Conan Exiles, both not that long ago, and both had, imo, extremely rudimentary gameplay mechanics. You do like what? Gather crafting materials by hitting things with your fist, make tools out of it, gather more, build bases and better equipment and… that’s the whole loop right there. People should be grateful if someone smashes their place up, lol. Gives them something to do.

You show ignorance by your unwillingness to accept the opinion of a different person. That’s ignorance. It’s not ignorance if the people don’t see the world like you do, it’s ignorance if you are unwilling to accept that other people have a different point of view than you do. I said I don’t get it, alot of people seem to like it and that’s cool. I just don’t understand why.

It’s okay not to “get it” or to like something; it’s just not for you. That’s fine. Others enjoy just the way it is.

90% of the people that slammed it on steam have a whole 0.3 hours playtime. It’s a good game.

Reader
Strana M

If people want to be able to refund the game on Steam, they need to do it before 2 hrs played. That’s why most the bad reviews will be less than 2 hrs.

I’m thinking “slammed” in the title of the article is referring to the onslaught of people.

I realized this myself after making Riki Downvote here , but I hated to see it go to waste

So many of the review bombs are coming from Ark players that spend more of their reviews ranting about ark or comparisons to ark. I know one guy who was banned from ark’s steam forums yesterday who in reprisal (which I thought was inane) bought DnL and went on to review bomb it like that.

Game is only roughly 30% done as well and people seem to, yet again, buy an early access game and ignore or are desensitized to the fact that its a completely unfinished game. But yet review and slam it with fully completed game expectations.

Its just silly.

That said, I’m certainly waiting. Primarily I want to see how this dev team handles their progress and responds/reacts to actual, meaningful feedback from players on the game development. That, and its obvious that future steam sales will have potentially well below 20 buck prices for it.

Well, it does look like a copy of Ark. They even copied assets over wholesale (same company owns both developers).

Though i’m still confused as to why they call it Dark and Light. It has literally nothing to do with the original game. Zilch. Nada.

Reader
2Ton Gamer

Yeah, the whole “a lot” quotes are a little bothersome. I have found that there are quite a few assets in the game that are similar or built-on from Ark, but that it definitely has its own feel. The game does need tons of work though, which is cool because I enjoyed the EA part of Ark and shall enjoy this as well. The majority of the bad reviews are from people who still do not quite get how EA works. It all comes down to if you want a finished game or not.

Reader
John Kiser

Well a lot of ark’s assets are wholesale UE4 marketplace assets to begin with so…

Perhaps because at 30% done, one is only seeing 25% light and 5% dark? :P:P Hard to speculate at this point :P. Outside of that, not being the original team nor the original owner either(if memory serves) I’m sure there is probably going to be a lot of differences.
