Citadel: Forged With Fire launches early access today

Those of you who hate long waits and excessive transparency during those waits are getting your wish today, as Citadel: Forged With Fire lumbers into early access on Steam today after surprisingly little preamble. The game will go on sale at noon EDT. Early access is expected to last up to a year, with a formal launch in 2018 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Should you buy it? Well, it’s early access, and by all accounts it deserves that designation. MMO players should note that while it’s been dubbed a “massive online sandbox RPG,” the servers aren’t currently massive at all. On the other hand? Magic, dragons, and a kickass construction system.

Blue Isle Studios says that the launch patch will contain some big changes; the devs have made structures harder to raid, rebalanced XP from building to stop an exploit, removed chest icons from the map, revamped VOIP, fixed tamed critters, nerfed dragon damage and mana regen, tweaked housing, and solved a number of outstanding bugs.

We took a look at the game in person last week while chatting with the studio’s community manager; that’s down below, along with a roundup of our coverage so far!

Afternoon update: Live now! The discount brings the buy-in to $19.99.

I watched a few reviews. I am nt even the survival type of player. Sure I own ark as it was 9/95 on a sale back n the day. But I never played t and I heard dark and light was by them as well. hence not good. Conan looked lame as well.

But I also followed Worlds adrift, and even though while not my mega cup of tea, i liked seeing devs in action. Make airship, explore, blow it up. Swing with a hook. Steam hammer kinda looked cool. This game, has pve servers, I hope it will let me build a house i desire, feed that archeage place a house anywhere urge. Also the taming not just of dragons, but pets, feeds the Bless pet system in me. The whole magic shown off in videos looks funny

So I will try it out.

Conan is fantastic, at least if you are a fan of the IP. I enjoyed what I’ve gotten to play of Citadel. We’ll see if they actually finish the game.

From what I’m gathering, it’s in the same vein as ARK and Dark’n’Light. Very rough on most fronts, limited server capacity and mislabeled as an MMO much like the two other games mentioned.

The survival genre has not only started off on the wrong foot, they appear to be actively attempting to high jack the MMO/RPG community with buzz words like, “MMO, Open World and Fantasy” with some success in these “Early Access” projects.

In the past few weeks I’ve gone from excited to cautiously optimistic to not falling for it anymore. I’m just glad I never actually bought in with money. Even Star Citizen (as you know I’m a huge fan of) has kept my wallet closed as of late.

It was touted to be a great year for MMO’s by some publications and it’s got very little to show for it.

The Camelot Unchained’s, Crowfall’s, Ashes of Creation’s of the world have little motivation or fear from 2017, another dead year for the MMO genre. 2018 may begin to see some of these in Alpha/Beta. Here’s to hoping.

It is an MMO: Multiplayer Magic Online game. ;)

Wasn’t very impressed by the beta. That may have been caused by the 40 player capacity of servers. I was hopeful it was an MMO :(
