Chronicles of Elyria vows better communication, posts roadmap to release

Saying that the development team has drifted away from the high level of transparency that it originally demonstrated, Chronicles of Elyria’s project lead vowed that the studio would become a lot more transparent with the MMORPG’s construction going forward.

This statement set the stage of a massive state of the game post in which the team looked at the past, present, and future of the title. There’s a lot to absorb in regards to current projects, including the clothing system, mounted animations, and the sheer variety of body types, but curious readers might skip past all of that to see what’s coming up.

The article contains a three-year development roadmap leading from now through its late 2019 release, with the caveat that things change, delays happen, and you know the drill. For the rest of 2017, getting the third iteration of the website and ElyriaMUD running is top priority. Then in 2018 a lot starts to happen: alpha testing, server selection, settlement selection, and Kingdoms of Elyria. Finally, 2019 will transition the project into beta testing and launch.

Of additional note is a staggering list of planned (but not assured) features for this ambitious game. Pollination? Animal aging? Orphanages? Gossip? It’s all there and much, much more. When you’re done reading the state of the game, you can check out videos on tribes, animal animation, and an early ElyriaMUD test below.

So… in MMO speak that really translates the game being 2020, more than likely 2021 for beta then launch. Yes.. i speak MMO fluently :)

Still THE game to watch, and I’ll be there in 2018 for sure! I don’t like the Star Wars-styled animals much, nothing beats good old wolves and bears IMO, but meh.

I help but continue to see red flags in my mind every time I read anything from or about these guys and it just doesn’t appear to be getting any better.

Looks like another KS fail in the making. Not going to watch that video, but do they address at all the fact that Kickstarter pledges were told Dec 17 for access? The KS updates are a litany of excuses and uh, software is hard tales!

Might I ask which MMO you have ever played since the creation of MMO’s that has been able to hold to their initial production time line? Oh, none you say? That’s right.

MMO’s are highly complex, take a herd of people all doing different things at the same time trying to make all of their pieces fit together with other people’s pieces. Bumps in the road happen, and this doesn’t seem like that far of a deviation from when we would “have access”.

I’ve worked on them, shipped them and know the process well. There’s a difference between somebody who makes promises with their own funds and those who make promises with the funds of the people expecting to play the game.

From personal experience, whenever excuses dominate the dialog, there isn’t enough real work happening.

Truer words – although I’d add that when excuses seem to dominate the conversation real work isn’t happening because they simply don’t know where to start or how to do it properly. Paid on the job training is occurring here I have little doubt.

Maybe it will look and play like mud in the literal sense.
