One Shots: The one where we mention Michael Bay

Warning: This column will contain GRAPHIC and EXPLICIT references to film auteur Michael Bay. You may find yourself cutting away in excitement every two seconds and subject to unnecessary explosions and pixelated cleavage. Try to remain calm.

Siphaed had “super fun” in Citadel: Forged With Fire lately and wanted to share a vista from his new house. But what’s the best part? “Explosions!” he wrote. “Michael Bay would be jealous of the graphical fidelity of Citadel. And yet still aesthetically pleasing to the eye.”

Now that we’ve gotten our gratuitous Michael Bay reference out of the way, let us push forward and try to forget the man who single-handedly ruined two 1980s franchises. We are not bitter.

Some of our screenshot posters enjoy tweaking their pictures with various filters before submitting, which is totally OK in my book as long as I’m the only one using the cheap “black and white” option for shots.

One such poster is Koshelkin, who shared this touched-up picture from Lord of the Rings Online. “The amount of detail in this hall amazed me,” she said. And we stand with you, amazed as well.

Last week I put out a call for zombie pictures and unwittingly triggered the apocalypse. My bad. We’re going to have to plow through the thick of them before we emerge into the clearing, so let’s start with this Age of Conan pic.

“Zombies and undead in general aren’t always the enemy,” Ryuen said. “My Necromancer never goes anywhere without her band of deceased minions.”

Zombies don’t merely have to be created from human stock! Miol took us back to the land of Orr in Guild Wars 2 for quite possibly the most terrifying farming experience of our lives.

“There is indeed even a whole farm of undead chicken in Orr, near Karst Plains. So while a giant undead mother hen was very determined to take care of another player passing too closely, I took the opportunity to get closer to one of the coops, during which, of course, still having Orr’s serene architecture as silent witnesses!”

Last on our MOP Zombie Tour ’17 is Secret World Legends, which may have one or two undead in it. In the same way that YouTube may have one or two negative comments in its comments section.

I particularly liked this picture from Hirku, who captured a “Condition Seventeen” in a very unsettling and inhuman pose.

Pardon my repeat here, but every so often I love to ask readers to share pictures of their own houses in-game. Seeing the exterior and interior decoration masters at work is inspiring, so let’s make that this week’s challenge!

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
