LawBreakers picks up positive Steam reviews, stutter issues on PS4

In spite of the fact that Boss Key is still trying to make that #skilledaf hashtag a thing on Twitter, Nexon/CliffyB’s brand-new shooter LawBreakers appears to be swooping through the fires of launch relatively unsinged. Steam reviews in particular aren’t the usual pit of doom that most online games of this size (700K pre-launch testers) see at launch; the game is nearing 1000 weigh-ins as I write this, and it’s still in the “very positive” territory, with most of the criticism being lobbed at unbalanced or overpowered characters. So basically, a video game then.

There was one snag: major stuttering on the PS4 version of the game, which Eurogamer reports is causing a third of a second in framerate losses, something quite visible to anyone playing. Eurogamer also expresses skepticism over Boss Key’s implication that it’s an issue isolated to entering and exiting matches and points out that the problem didn’t exist in the PS4 beta.

“We are currently aware and investigating a hitching issue on PS4 when joining/leaving a match or changing roles,” the devs plastered into the launcher. “Thanks for your understanding while we work to resolve the issue.”

I had $30. I bought the game weeks ago. I’ve put 33 hours in so far and I’m think the game is well-made and very fun. It’s got room to improve and I hope it does, but it looks like for a lot of people $30 is too high for an original IP that’s an online-only, PVP-only arena-shooter. If it was F2P, obviously, we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Perhaps more people would buy it if it were in Early Access for 2 years; people love that.

Positive reviews but last i saw its peak users were 3000 and it was declining already. The ‘hero BLANK’ genre fatigue is setting in faster than the digital ccg one did. Even Battleborn did better on release, drink that in.

The #painfulAF hashtag isn’t helping much either…

I avoided this directly due to what happened with battleborn. Looks like a repeat even with the lower price.

When you say “avoided” Lawbreakers, do you mean that you spent no time investigating the game or playing in the open betas or do you mean that you didn’t buy it when it launched this week? Also, why compare it with Battleborn? BB doesn’t suck, but it’s not polished or more than just a C-grade game.

They can’t compete with Overwatch and the low pop creates bad matchmaking.
