No Man’s Sky dispatches Atlas Rises this week – for free

No Man’s Sky is due for its third freebie patch, and it’s coming this very week.

“We’re calling it Atlas Rises,” Hello Games says in an email that hit owners’ inboxes yesterday. “It focuses on improving the central story of No Man’s Sky and adds the ability to quick travel between locations using portals. Patch notes will be made available shortly before the update goes live. What we do is much more important than what we say, but since launch we have sometimes focused too much on that.”

No patch notes yet, but the studio does comment on the Waking Titan ARG it’s been running, which dovetails into this patch with the portals that will finally become functional.

“In the last eight weeks a quarter of a million players from across the globe (174 countries, to be precise!) have come together – united by a shared love of mystery and science fiction – to form the Citizen Science Division. You’ve travelled great distances both real and virtual, undertaken complex tasks, and explored the depths of simulation theory. New friendships have been forged, and a tight-knit community has been created. Most importantly a cute hamster has a new home. You’ve become part of the No Man’s Sky origin story.”

I had abandoned the Atlas path to make a base, play with some exocraft and do some hydroponic Geknip farming. Looks like a good time to start building warp fuel and get back into the journey.

No multiplayer. If you wanna go find someone in space, look at them for 10 seconds, blow them away and take their sh*t, this is not the game for you. Game came out very flawed, but their free updates over the last year has made the game much better. Not sure what is being added in this new patch, but if they are anything like the last updates, NMS will be much improved. Certainly worth 60 bucks.

Yeah. And what about multiplayer? Still no? Well, you can polish a turd, but it will still remain what it is.

Glad to see they are continuing to put stuff in to this one. I’m sure the AIM trolls will continue with their thing whatever the devs do, me I’ll hang back till I think the time is right to try this…

They only involved active community members in the ARG. I took that to mean people active on their forum. I own the game and didn’t get any notice of it either.

LOL, “freebie patch”… The whole game should be FREE instead of the ridiculous $60 that it currently priced at on Steam.
