Snail releases trailer for PixArk, its Minecraft-ARK Survival Evolved mashup

What’s that squishy sound? Oh yeah, it’s the sound of an IP being milked. I’m talking about Snail Games’ new Minecraft clone PixArk, which is apparently based in the same IP as ARK: Survival Evolved and Snail Games’ own ARK Park. The title is planned as a bit more of a survivalbox than voxelbox MMO counterparts like Trove, however. Expect first-person view, machine guns, and dinosaurs.

2P reports that Snail Games announced at ChinaJoy that the game will indeed come west, so yay! If you like voxel games, this one actually looks pretty cute. The trailer’s down below.

Well this looks like some not so great Indie game that would be released for a few dollars. Knowing Snail, it will be “Free to Play” with heavy Pay to Win elements (or a really terribly priced Cash Shop if not P2W).

I am seeing a really poor team shooter here. This trailer doesn’t make the game look exciting or fun or make me want to have anything to do with it.

If there are survival or building elements (which there are supposed to be), show some of those in this trailer. Just showing it off as a shooter in this form isn’t doing them any favors.

I haven’t really believed it before, but Snail starts to have too many games out. Remember Black and Gold?

Awesome! Now I can play CoD, Minecraft, and ARK *at the same time*!

Now, how much do I have to pay to win…

Ah, but actual Pay to Win games don’t have ceiling – so the amount you pay to win ends up being however much more than what someone else is willing to pay. Which is normally in the thousands – at least. Knowing Snail there’s a pretty decent chance this will be Pay to Win, though there’s less of it in their PC stuff than their Mobile stuff.

Their mobile titles are some really bad Pay to Win offenders – I spent $500 on one and was trashed overnight by the people who spent double and more what I did. I played a few more of their mobile games and they were using those same P2W systems. I simply couldn’t keep up so I stopped playing them finally rather than keep giving these type of games money.

I didn’t see anything about this trailer that screamed, “Play me!”

Usually i’m happy to see new games, but for this game all i feel is “meh” at best, it feels like a product designed by a business people not game designer: Voxels .. people love them, look at Minecraft! but with survival sandbox, you know … guns and dinos!

That looks like a very unfinished game. I can’t tell if they were serious about the Battlegrounds/Battle Royale gameplay they showed in that trailer, but if they were they have a lot of work ahead of them if they hope to be a competent shooter. For example, there is no recoil on the guns in that video.

Were you watching the same video as I just did? There was recoil on all the guns. Sure, it wasn’t much on the assault rifle, certainly not realistic (maybe in their mind the character you’re playing is compensating for you so you don’t have to), maybe not the amount you’d personally be happy with, but it was there. Not that the game looks fun in that trailer, at all, but there is a small amount of recoil on the guns.

I see the gun model jumping around, but I don’t see the cursor being affected by it at all.

Its a silly thing to dwell on anyway. The whole thing looks below the level of quality I would expect of a decent fan made Minecraft mod.

Certainly seem to be quite a few things Snail is building off the back of an unfinished game. Would have been nice if they could have tossed Wildcard some of the resources those devs say they lacked for fixing up the game engine in ARK.

Why would they have tossed Wildcard any money? It’s based on the same IP, that’s it. You toss money to other companies making games off the same IP as you? Wildcard has nothing to do with this other game at all. And Wildcard is raking it in with Ark too, they don’t need anybody to toss them money.

Who said anything about money? Reading the post from Wildcard, it does not look like money alone would do any good anyway. They need people who know the game engine.
