Secret World Legends to re-open Tokyo on Wednesday

Ever since Secret World Legends went live earlier this summer, there’s been a large, Tokyo-shaped hole in the reboot’s content offerings. Part of this gap, at least, will be filled this next week.

On Wednesday, August 16th, Funcom will be pushing out the first of three batches of Tokyo content. This patch will contain six story missions, 11 main missions, and several side missions, but it won’t be seeing the return of the controversial AEGIS system (at least for now). The devs said that the update will also make several changes to spirit blades, add a tougher scenario difficulty level, and give players the opportunity to collect and use weapon skins.

Coming in the near future are the second and third parts of Tokyo, a reworked New York City raid with a “story” mode, and revised Tokyo dungeons. Past that, the Agent system and Dark Agartha content are in the works for the end of the year, and the team also hinted that it is giving some attention to a new gear manager, lair megabosses, and additional PvP modes.

How about a redesigned auction house please.

That’s cool about the weapon skins, but the question is will we get our moulds that we paid cash for back?

Ok, i’m playing the game for more than a month and just today i received some old items from TSW, so i unlocked all weapons for free, add all the classes sets, got few sprints including Anima Dash (yay!) and hover discs, also 1 pet … i didn’t pay attention to all of that, i just needed to press a button!

Subscribing to old TSW was worth it :-)

I’ve finished the main story so far but OMG, i skipped so much content. Now there is more story and even more content coming, I’m Home!

Oh come on… no Aegis?!

Aegis is no longer a progression feature. It will be in story, in Tokyo and maybe or maybe not beyond.

If it’s even mentioned, it will probably a plot device for certain missions, but not a requirement for the whole zone or going forward.

I hope,

Something like it has to be used for some parts, I think.

Gah, I’m clearly moving way too slowly!

I never made it to the original Tokyo, so when I eventually arrive at the new one I at least won’t have any bad AEGIS memories. Won’t be for a long time at the leisurely pace I play.

That’s good about the weapon skins, but it’s really going to annoy me if it turns out the weapon skins I paid for weren’t a hidden part of the TSW legacy transfer from last month.

As a primary blade user I’m fine with the skill changes to spirit blade, but they need to fix the graphic bug where the spirit blade particle effect keeps floating above your hand even if you’re using another weapon or have your weapons sheathed.

The big question remains what they can pull off once they ran out of content & assets to rehash.

They’re already phrasing things as ‘Dark Agartha’ and ‘Agents’ (but not ‘new zone’, it seems) releasing by the end of the year, so maybe that’s their Oct-Dec thing, barring Funcom Postponing. Personally, I can and will play for months on, but if I don’t see stuff early 2018 I’m quite possibly out, and if I don’t see stuff late 2018 I’m totally out. They have me hooked for a few to several months, and that’s great, but I can’t see myself playing a year without stuff like Congo releasing (and being GOOD).

Funcom talked a lot in the past too.

And they’ve always released things. However, at a 1/4-1/2 the speed I would have liked.

Sure, they released some of the things they talked about. But I’m still waiting for things like : Kaidan lair, Kaidan aux weapon, the completion of the aux weapon wheel, puzzle raid, new scenario modes, data vault, additional faction ranks and missions, a use for the yellow raid drops.

And don’t get me started on their two other maintenance mode MMOs and the promises made there.

For SWL (not TSW):

Kaidan lair is September, they say.

Aux weapons are now hinted to become just new main weapons (thus the lack of synergy design compared to TSW). That may happen later this year, or next year.

Puzzle raid, I don’t know.

Scenario modes, I don’t know. The rest of the SWL difficulties are coming soon though.

Data vault, I don’t know. Hope it happens. Same with anything factional.

I know what you mean, I just wanted to respond to the specifics.

The question is still when will Funcom fall back into the “talk & not deliver” pattern they adhered to in the past. (Actually, that already has happened with SWL as they managed to not bring some things to beta they said they would.)

Anyway, here’s hoping that Funcom corporate culture will improve.

Reader
Koshelkin

Funcom never had a “talk&not deliver” pattern if we except the crafting revamp from aoc, which was a trainwreck. The problem with Funcom games was always the lacking long-term success and hence funding faster development cycles.

“weapon skins” .. this is what i wanted to know, how do you change weapon skin? glad Tokyo is coming, i’m still in Egypt, so hopefully when i reach Tokyo Funcom will release all the content for it.

Reader
Malcolm Swoboda

Weapon skins will be Dressing Room for what you have bound.

Tokyo beginning release is next week, then it sounds like every 1-2 weeks after is another section release until early-to-mid September. Early or late September will be more endgame release (Tokyo lair, a raid, lair megabosses, maybe the rest of Elite dungeons, whatever).

This is exciting news. I just wrapped up the main storyline, so I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next. It’s been an absolute blast so far.

Reader

No, you don’t understand, you haven’t finished the main story until you talk to the redhead at the top of Orochi tower.

Yea just finished the main story myself not too long ago, so this is certainly welcome news and yep, couldn’t agree more, absolute blast. So much better than TSW.

I’ve been playing an hour or so every day this past week or so, but I’m still struggling to see what this version has that is better than what the old version had – certainly not the combat.

Reader
Sushi Maru

I think the combat is worse, personally. The only thing I like more about SWL is the daily rewards and item upgrade systems. They could have applied those things to TSW.

The only driving force behind a re-write to SWL was moving to consoles, there was no other reason for the change.

Reader
Malcolm Swoboda

I enjoy SWL combat a lot more, even if I more objectively don’t think its a lot better. But I know this sparks quite a lot of debate. (as you put it: ‘certainly’, then I disagree)

Reader

“Certainly” was a reflection of the degree of conviction with which I held the view – for me it certainly isn’t the combat that is an improvement on the old version. Others may well feel differently :)!

I am actually liking the present version, I’m just struggling to see any improvement in it over what went before.

The time to kill and reticle focus is everything to me. I know it bothers others. I love it.

Reader
Theodrax

Time to kill is a big thing for me. Back in the old Secret World I would weave an intricate path through the streets of Kingsmouth to avoid agroing a pack of zombies, because I knew it could take a minute or more to kill them all. Now I don’t care, I can just kill them relatively quickly and move on. Much better.

I never got past Savage Coast before, and now I’m almost to Transylvania and going strong. I also got my wife playing.
