Cliff Bleszinski thinks streaming the LawBreakers testing was a mistake

Hey, kids! Want to read a big long interview with Cliff Bleszinski about launching LawBreakers? Because you probably shouldn’t read it if you’re an actual kid. There’s a lot of swearing and one anti-government rant in there about having to get your car inspected. But there is some useful information therein, like how Bleszinski thinks that streaming the LawBreakers alpha testing was a mistake that gave people the wrong impression. He also thinks that the title’s initial poor numbers are a reflection of the game in a live state is more about a marathon than a sprint, that the numbers will come naturally over time.

Bleszinski goes on to state that the game is meant to appeal to core shooter audiences rather than having what he describes as “kiddy bumpers” and an aesthetic moving away from what he refers to as “Anna and Elsa running around killing the zombies.” If you don’t mind a lot of swearing, by all means, check out the full interview.

Maybe. Or maybe the game just isn’t that interesting because it’s based on 20 year old game philosophy. People want team shooters to play with friends, not shooters about shooting off your “sick l33t skillz”.

I guess he’ll most likely retire again after this.

I remember years ago during an E3 show, he was being interviewed and while the person was talking he was standing there moving side to side modelling. Not sure the proper word for it, he was cocking his head side to side with duck lips. Weirdest thing I ever saw.

“There’s a lot of swearing and one anti-government rant in there about having to get your car inspected.”

What kind of retard does this when he’s supposed to give an interview about a game?

The big problem Lawbreakers has is the amount of poor balancing between classes. You currently have 3 classes beating up the rest of them in such an unbalanced way that unless you play one of those three classes you just get stomped. It isn’t bad when it feels balanced, but until it feels more balanced a lot of people are going to try it and abandon it hardcore.

Making the game with Nexon was his biggest mistake.

Hey, don’t blame Nexon for Bleszinski’s failings.

Crowded market place and for me still no idea who Cliff Bleszinski is and not interested enough to try to find out.

He practically put the xbox on the map with Gears of War – by bringing in folks not already about Halo. Before Gears? No one cared about MS’s product. After, they did.

Actually that’s impressive and thanks.

Console’s kinda passed me by and I guess I am showing my age :)

No, making Lawbrakers was the mistake.

Let’s see:

Poor marketing.
Poor communication.
Insulting potential customers.
Infantile ranting.
Not that great of a game.
Mismanagement.

I’d say those make for more compelling evidence as to why its doing poorly.

Only problem Bleszinkski made was not advertising the damn game. I had no idea wtf Lawbreakers even was until after release I read an article from some web blog stating they couldn’t understand why no one was playing it.. I thought it was just another overwatch clone, so I didn’t bother reading past that.

What people like Cliff doesn’t understand is gaming isn’t the infant child it was back in the day when I worked in the industry and he was actually popular. It a rehash market now, and he just tried to out rehash the rehash market. It doesn’t work.

Gamers are ready for something new, not something old and improved. /shrug sorry.

Bleszinski, overwatch clone, and Nexon. Each one of those things are more than enough to make me disqualify a game, and Lawbreakers manages to have them all in one package.

Overwatch clone? Uh…not even remotely.

It really isn’t an overwatch clone by any real stretch and by that end anyways overwatch is just a clone of dirtybomb and arena shooters/tf2.
