Destiny 2 teases PC open beta with sweet Nvidia trailer

Hey, graphics junkies and PC fans. Are you hyped for Destiny 2’s PC launch yet? In case you’re not, Bungie and Nvidia have a brief video out effectively demonstrating why waiting a little longer for the game to hit PCs is going to be worth it.

“Experience Destiny 2 in 4K with uncapped frame rates in the PC Open Beta August 29-31. Pre-purchase Destiny 2 on PC Exclusively at Blizzard Battle.net and get 24 hour early beta access starting on August 28. Begin Destiny 2’s epic cinematic story campaign, fight below the surface of Nessus in the three-player cooperative Strike Inverted Spire, and enter the Crucible to put your competitive multiplayer skills to the test in two 4v4 modes.”

We’re sure it’ll be pretty for you console folks too. Just not as pretty. And hey, you get to play five weeks sooner. Eyeballs below.

Last time I used the term “cinematic story campaign”, it was not for praising. I suppose this is more of a reason to YouTube this game than playing it.

I’m going to be a wee bit upset if they don’t fix the account linking issue that made my beta code go “poof”

Only 4v4 for PvP, even on PC… Seems like only BF series still dares to give large-scale, large-team-size experience to gamers. Pretty sad.

MWO does 12v12, and I haven’t done Planetside2 in years, but those battles got huge.

Yea, I forgot about Planetside 2… But so did most of the people who used to play it right when it was released and it’s highly unlikely that this series has any future (unless Daybreak will sell the rights to it) so I don’t think it should count ;)

The top end console hardware is so much cheaper, I’ll be fine with more money in my pocket and a little less pretty.

Now will the missions and raid testing we get to play be the same as everyone or will those end up as a Sony exclusive as well?

No fucking thanks.

2 things kept me from enjoying the first one

1. The fact that I was trying to play a FPS game with a controller, instead of mouse/keyboard

2. The fact that the story was so short, and what story there was, was pretty bad

Seems that with a PC version of Destiny 2, #1 is fixed, and from all the interviews with the devs, #2 may be vastly improved too. Hearing things like “We are putting so much story into the game, we expect players to complain that there is too much story!!”

Time be comin’ when I’ll buy a 4K screen. Probably when the Xbox One X launches, it will be my 4K media center. I’ll also hook up my PC to the TV. :)

I have a 4k Screen. I find it generally lackluster. While my 1080Ti can certainly power the sucker and I rarely have issues (for example GW2 or BDO I can run on 4k with 60 FPS in most circumstances) it’s generally the UI options in most games that are severely lacking. For example in GW2 even with “Larger” and “Largest” text it’s tiny on a 40″ 4k TV. The most annoying factor is screenshots however. If I wanna take a screenshot to show off something I have to usually open it first in MSPaint, then resize it, then I can paste away in Discord etc. Honestly just kinda a hassle.

On that note, if not deterred, I would recommend going with a 4k TV over a monitor. They tend to be cheaper, larger and most importantly most modern ones have very snappy response times to where I don’t notice a difference. I found the “rtings” website very useful when comparing them and they go into a lot of depth.

HDR support better in the televisions too. Not sure I understand your issue with screencaptures. There are lots of programs that can handle 4k images, from the expensive (Photoshop) to the free (IrfanView)

i’m still amazed how many pc only gamers actually think this is a first person shooter WoW and not a lobby shooter. Boy are those launch day reactions going to be interesting.

Where did you find the aforementioned PC only gamers? This game had a sequel and it’s pretty hard not hear about its existence and what kind of game Destiny 1 is before making assumptions of what Destiny 2 will be.

It isn’t a lobby shooter, sorry.

As a primarily PC gamer who owns a PS4 and owns the first one on that platform, I define it as a MMORPG. Perhaps MMORPG-lite might be a better definition, but the more focused game play works to its benefit. For me, most MMORPGs these days feel like they have to have all this stuff clogging up their game to satisfy a marketing checklist that creates a lot of busywork instead of a solid, focused experience.

I would describe an mmorpg a game where i run around in the world (outsideof instanced content like dungeons, raids, etc) and can see or interact with other players.

A “lobby shooter” for me is where i can only see other players in a hub and from there go to instances where i can only see my team mates.

So what of the two is D2 ?

The majority of Destiny missions take place in shared open world areas where players often cooperate in public events and/or compete to hit mission objectives. Other players exist and are visible in these open world mission areas whether you’re teamed with them or not. That’s what I call an MMORPG, and apparently so do you.

I was so disappointed with the first one and how they kept re-using old content and levels in “DLC” I don’t know if its worth it even with it being on PC, just too high a risk

But at the same time…

Looks neat. I enjoyed the first one on PS4.
Would have enjoyed it more if they had expanded on the MMOyness of it and made it more open world though.

Probably will purchase this for PC. We’ll see how well my i7 4.4 and GTX1080 can handle it.

Gah, it’s looking like I’m going to go way over my data cap this month if I get into the beta…but I want to try it so bad -_-

Curious to see how this will run on my pc. Depending on that , i’l buy it.

Reader

you’ll need at least a GTX970 I would think. quadcore processor (late gen i5s might handle it, but i7 best)

What are your specs? You can figure that out right now.
