EverQuest II brings out more familiars and expert raids with Game Update 104

Don’t fret that your summer’s slipping away; revel in the final days of August here, as EverQuest II delivered a new game update yesterday to keep players busy and happy.

Game Update 104 built upon the foundation that GU103 laid, adding more features such as familiars, proving grounds, and expert raids. The team added 30 additional pets with the patch, some of which can be found in-game while others are only available for purchase through the store.

Another notable change was a big class balance pass: “With GU 104, there [is] a rather large balance pass which adjusts the outgoing damage across most classes, focusing primarily on Assassin, Wizard, and the Warlock class but most classes will experience some increase. Further updates have also been made to abilities for some of the support classes. This is by no means the final balance pass, and there will be lots of changes and improvements coming with the expansion.”

One of the first iterations of possibly the worst class balancing system devised in recent years. Just flat increase in a classes damage output with a multiplier. Zero finesse in tuning specific abilities or traits. Look forward to the devs trying to squeeze out more cash from less players.

The pay-to-win spell system for the next xpac sounds like a nightmare. Sure you can get the best spells while paying a subscription after a few months, or you can dole out piles of cash to get it on day 1. It worked for those horrendous Ascension class spells in KA and they are gonna expand it.

I’m so glad my former guild quit this game while on top so no one could say its sour grapes. They got to the top of the mountain first, latest epics first, turned around said this game is crap and left. I suppose if who don’t care about new content the game is still fine, but systems design has been a train wreck in EverQuest 2 since ToT.

Sometimes I reinstall this game just to play around with SOEmote. For the life of me I can’t figure out why that’s not a standard feature in MMOs. Yeah, Oculus has tech they are working on that can read your expression through the visor to map to your VR avatar, hopefully that will be what’s “next” in that regard, but damn. SOEmote was magical. I so looked forward to a better/HD one in EQN… but no.

Some grumblings from classes that did not get any % boost was inevitable. My Berserker main got a 3% boost, yay. My Wizard got a whopping 16% boost. :P
