World of Warcraft tokens reach record prices thanks to Destiny 2

Remember back in World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor, when a shave and a haircut cost you a nickel and a WoW token was selling for about 35,000 gold? Those days are long over, my friend, and it looks like it’s only going to get pricier from here.

Blizzard Watch reports that the cost for a WoW token is on the rise once again, nearly topping 166,000 gold on the North American auction house this week. This is most definitely due to Destiny 2’s PC beta — and it is not the first time that this upcoming Blizzard Activision game has rocked the WoW token economy.

WoW tokens took an expected uptick at the launch of Legion, but they didn’t really start shooting up astronomically until back in February when Blizzard allowed players to redeem them for store currency in addition to World of Warcraft gametime.

Happy that I bailed after the first hike when they did what they did. Couldn’t afford to pay for two subs, and I wasn’t playing enough to maintain one character to make 60k gold.

At this point you’d almost have to have a couple of alts and constantly playing a a few hours on each to get the gold a month it’s coming to.

Ah well. No loss.

Nah, you can make 20-40k an hour depending on server AH prices just harvesting dreamleaf/yserline seeds from killing rooters outside of Darkheart Thicket if you have herbalism… That’s the best spot i have found, it gets even better if you have rk3 dreamleaf since you can blood of sargeras too. Plenty of other places to harvest/skin/etc. It’s boring but makes money.

Fair. When I had gone back to WoD, I joined at the end of it only to get a Demon Hunter going and never leveling any crafts. As such, I had little ability and even less care to bring it up to an acceptable level. That’s on me, but at least it seems it’s not so bad.

Just got tired of the game, honestly. Even going back and playing the class I’ve been waiting on for years now, it just…I just don’t have it in me, anymore.

About 10k an hour on Proudmoore but still not too bad. I keep my sub up with minimal grinding that’s all I care about.

When there is a spider mount costs 4 million gold, and a new Argus mount costs 500k g, these token prices are normal, the AH prices are silly too.

Has there been any confirmation that you’ll actually be able to use store currency from WoW tokens for Destiny silver? On my Battle.net launcher, Destiny is listed under a separate heading “Activision” which stands to reason that the financials of Blizzard and Activision might be kept separate despite using the same launcher/store front. I know that you can use the tokens to buy Destiny itself atm, but it’s possible that might be a loophole that gets closed when Destiny 2 actually launches.

Thanks Reht. My Google-fu is weak.

And WoW Gold Farmers and Sellers cried: “Hallelujah!”

So I never even thought about the Gold Farmers before, when it came to the tokes. Is there a limit on how many they can sell a month?

160K+ is just a little too rich for my blood. I don’t play enough anymore to consider purchasing a sub, and I definitely do not play enough anymore to effectively earn that amount in gold.

Holy mother of inflations. I practically gave up on buying anything off AH after missing out on the gold rush during WoD.. so much behind the curve

It’s really not very difficult to get 160k in legion once you get going and plan your gold farming system. I have made almost a million gold in the last 3 months between gold class hall missions/world quests, spending 3-4 hours a week farming dreamleaf/Yserline seeds and selling them on the AH, and doing nether disruptor portal farming (netted 150 chaos crystals every 5-7 days if you had disenchant which sold for 35-45k or used to before tuesday’s patch changes).

I came back right after that one too…. I said screw it

I’m still sitting on a token I bought at 35k gold actually. Might be time to go cash that bad boy in for some decent returns!

They can’t be resold if bought from the AH

So if I buy a token and traded for gold that might be smart eh? Right now I’m at 4 silver and a few copper. Total.

While these have gone up in value the WoW economy has not kept pace, 160k gold will go quite far

I literally started the game two nights ago so I assume that much gold would be a tremendous amount for me. Money is one thing I really would like skipping ahead on. I really dont feel like struggling to keep up with 10+ year vets.

That is a good war chest. Professions are the biggest gold sink and you may also want to use crafted gear to help get over ilvl humps.

Reader
Reht

If you haven’t picked up a profession, grab herbalism and harvest what you can, it’s a good money maker once you get to legion herbs. Enchanting is another good one for disenchanting.

I was thinking of coming back to WoW just to buy/sell a token, those prices are crazy! BTW, I love Twin Peaks!

The Return of TP is the best thing that has ever happened to television. That would be true even if I weren’t a huge fan. Last week’s episode was the best episode of tv I’ve ever seen. I can only imagine what the finale will hold this weekend. I cannot wait.

With that much of a gold you can buy best bags for extra imventory and almost all heirlooms for all classes upgraded ;) (heirloom is gear that level with you and is very good and also give xp bonus).
