Secret World Legends opens up legacy transfers to first-time users

Sometimes altering the deal can be a good thing, even if Darth Vader is in the room. Funcom gave advance notice that it is making a few changes to the upcoming second round of Secret World Legends legacy transfers.

The transfers, which are “likely” to resume next week with the second part of the Tokyo content update will now allow anyone who didn’t use the transfer service the first time around. Previously, it was only going to be a second chance for those who had used the service. Also: “There is no planned cutoff date for the service, but it still can only be used once.”

Meanwhile, a small hotfix today fixed some issues and balance with the Manhattan Exclusion Zone raid and squashed a bug that was keeping some Steam players from logging into the game.

Glad to see Funcom is trying to do the right thing with legacy TSW players. I know more than a few thought they got thrown under the bus; I distinctly recall a very well written criticism at Metacritic from an ex-TSW player about this issue.

For my part, every time I think I’m starting to get tired of SWL something cool happens, like a plot twist in the main story or a really fun quest. Also, I’m finding the crafting/upgrade system oddly compelling, kind of like the old ascension atlas in Skyforge. That said, I’m in late game now (the Carpathian Fang map), and the million dollar question will be if I maintain my subscription after completing the currently available content. I suppose I will want to stick around at least for the Halloween event. I expect it will be good because in SWL every day feels like Halloween. ;-)

The real question isn’t whether or not it will be good, it’s whether or not any of it will be new. They could rerun The Meowling and other past stuff and it would still be good.

Why would I want to use it again, if I already used it?

If you have bonus points (or non-converting regular points) you can spend them in the TSW store and get what you purchased transferred over. Or head to Pangaea (or other in store shops) and spend excess Pax on things you didn’t already own.

If you trusted them when they told us we’d get to convert our Funcom Points and didn’t spend them when you had the chance.

The last time that I logged into SWL, some gear that I had purchased from the store was missing. I’m done with the game. Between costume pieces that never transferred from the old game, and the disappearance of the new stuff that I bought, I just don’t have the confidence in FunCom to commit any more time to it. I wish those players that remain the best.

Uh-oh “no cutoff date, but one-time transfer” leaves me with a big open question. Because grandmasters still get bonus points every month, we could presumably indefinitely buy the gamble boxes that have some of the rarest cosmetics, but then have to decide when enough is enough . . .

Personally i was relieved i didn’t have to launch through steam. In the channel it seems some peeps are able to launch the game without using steam anymore? just saying.

That would be another smart move for them, why temp your players with ads from steam before they log into your game?

I haven’t tried it on every game in my Steam library, but with all that I have tried it is possible to launch them without also launching Steam. You simply go into the Steam folder for the game and launch it directly using the .exe file.

Definitely a smart move on their part.
