Final Fantasy XIV prepares for Shirogane housing while halting house demolitions

Looking forward to picking up a house in Final Fantasy XIV’s Shirogane housing district? The houses are planned to open up with the release of the upcoming patch 4.1, and the latest article on the official site details how players can move into a new plot from their old ones with a discount equal to 30% of the old plot’s price. All of your housing items will be deposited into the new Storehouse feature, allowing you to retain access to furnishings that otherwise cannot be removed from an estate.

Of course, if you’re a player in the regions affected by the recent hurricanes, your concerns are probably more focused on your real-world house than a house in FFXIV. The good news there is that the game is also temporarily halting house demolition timers, so you needn’t worry about anything happening to your house while dealing with the real-world crisis around you. It doesn’t help make the recovery easier, but it’s still a good thing.

Yea the need to play or lose your shit that would obviously take several months to gain the money to buy your house can be lost because you take too long of a break from the game. Even though YogiP said the game is made to take breaks from and come back with no problem…

On the bright side at least you don’t lose your furniture!!!

I can afford a house but the maintenance system troubles me… if i ever dont play for 2 months i am losing my house… i wish it would let me pay for 6 month maintenance..

Or at least they should lower the prices like lotro.. so losing a house and buy it again is not costy..

All I really foresee happening is those who could afford houses in the past will just race off to buy out the new places to where almost no one else will be able to get into the new housing areas. That and probably FCs/groups of people will band together to try and scalp as many houses as possible and then hold them hostage for higher prices.

Me, I’d just like to have a way to change the color of my chocobo without needing to do the gardening stuff.

Never understood the ‘keep paying or your house goes away’ thing. Sure, it’s a gold sink, but sort of a shitty one, in case you leave the game and come back.

It’s not like there’s a finite amount of land out there in virtual space. And yes, it takes data to store it but a) data storage is really an infinitesimal cost and getting smaller every day* and b) it doesn’t take much more data storage space than a full bank, and AFAIK nobody has banks that vanish over time?

*fine, if that data storage is SO precious, after some period of inactivity, fold it all up and make it effectively a bank-storage (house and items EXIST, but if you come back you basically have to unpack it all and put it all ‘together). If it’s THAT big a deal, fine, after 3 months of no activity warn me, and after 6 months send me some massive PGP-encrypted key that combines both all my stuff AND some sort of secret key code for my account – I’ll have to save that multi-kb file in my gmail or whatever, to re-enter and restore it if I play again.

There are LOTS of solutions that don’t drain people’s banks and then screw them if they want to come back.

With FFXIV, there is no housing maintenance cost. You just have to visit your house every so often to keep it from being marked as abandoned.

I think he means the subscription because if you dont visit your house for 65 days then you lose it…

So if for any reason you take a break from the game for 2+ months you lose your house

If keeping the house in-game is important to you, you’ll log in and visit your house–it takes what, 30 seconds?

Reader

But in order to login you need an active subscription… so if you dont renew your sub for 2+ months you lose the house..

If you don’t keep an active sub you can’t do ANYTHING in game–hence the point of a sub only game. If keeping your in-game house is important to you, you’ll maintain your sub. Pretty simple.

“If keeping your in-game house is important to you, you’ll maintain your sub.” Would you feel that way about characters and items too?

Dont even bother, is one of those SE white knights that are abundant in its forums and reddit.

SE could s**t on their faces and they would be thankful.

Ah of course, if at any point someone has an opinion contrary to your own, start throwing cool social media terms around instead of actually addressing the point. How very cliche of you :)

BLUF, the Housing Market is just that…a market. SE has established a certain set of rules (that are obviously completely different to “items” and “characters” in-game). They clearly have limitations on how much housing they can incorporate into the game. As an aside, I do wish they would only allow two houses for an account on any one server (one free company, one personal).
