Elite: Dangerous brings the Thargoids with patch 2.4 on September 26

There are dangerous things in deep space when you play Elite: Dangerous. More dangerous than system failures, or pirates, or interstellar phenomena. The Thargoids are arriving on September 26th, the culmination of many teasing moments in which players have been forced to realize that they are not, in fact, alone in the galaxy. Now they’re coming, and players are going to have to deal with a danger that is far more mysterious than anything found up to now.

While patch 2.4 is coming out on the 26th, it marks the beginning of narrative content which will be rolled out in the weeks and months following the initial patch. If you’re eager to get a taste of what’s coming next, though, check out the cinematic trailer just below. It’s possible to override the shutdown pulse that these mysterious entities generate, yes… but there’s more to it than just the first pulse.

Cannot say that I am looking forward to the return of the Thargoids.

I fly a passenger liner for profit which is not armed so it remains to be seen if it will impact my normal game play or not.

Will be interesting to see just how dangerous these guys are. I’m hoping it introduces a really dangerous opponent to the galaxy, one that might be better to run from rather than engage.

A wing of Thargoids is not something I want to be near.

I have been waiting for this update since 2.2 (a year ago).

Hope they start selling Brown Flight suits on the store because I’m going to need them.

The problem I have with Elite (other than the massive grind) is that to do anything well in the game requires a specialist ship, and changing configurations is a pain in the neck. Okay, it’s better than it was – at least we can now store parts and pay to ship them to wherever we are – but it’s still a game where the difficulty bar demands specialism and it’s awkward to do it.

I can’t help feeling that having to fit a pulse defeat device plus new specialist weapons to deal with Thargoids isn’t really going to help.

ooh cool I think I was last really active in Elite sometime back in April so it might be time to dust of the Python or Anaconda to see what trouble I can get into with this new patch.

Oh and while I remember Elite:Dangerous and the season pass are both on a 33% discount for the next three days at the Humble store if anyone is thinking of giving it a go (Source: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/promo/frontier-developments-summer-sale/)
