Star Citizen is down to only 7 must-fix issues before alpha 3.0 goes to the Evocati

What’s that sound? That’s the sound of Star Citizen’s alpha 3.0 creeping ever closer, as the teams say they’ve made “substantial progress.”

In the latest edition of Around the Verse, Chris Roberts says the dev team is focused on “clearing out the remaining blockers,” while “the dev-ops team is going through the process of preparing the build for distribution.” They’ve cleaned up 19 more must-fix issues, with 7 more to go.

The feature for this episode centers on air traffic control, which sounds like a weird and boring thing my kids would play, but nope – it’s actually pretty important to landing ships in an open-world MMO, as it’s critical to help players land in a spot that’s actually big enough and actually empty. Otherwise, you’d be landing Serrenity II on top of my Millennium Falcon IV, and we can’t have that. The whole episode is below.

So, who are “the evocati”, then?
A club of high-profile backers who donated more than 100k, or something?

The Evocati “Avacados” are the actual alpha testers. Like Zor said, they’re selected from the folks who are active in producing bug reports. They get the patch builds before it’s cleared for the other backers.

I don’t doubt that many of them have significant pledges, but they’re a legitimate and productive part of the open development process for the game.

No, any backer with access to the alpha can be one. They pick from the players that are the most active on the issue council. The issue council is the system for reporting bugs and giving feedback.

From their own ATV. You are going to experience everything there is in this build within one to two hours. It’s very bare bones.

And I wonder how many bugs will avocados find? Wasn’t 2.0 in avocado hands for a month? This whole 3.0 build is supposedly much bigger than 2.0. So how long will they have it for before the general public will play it?

Hey Zor, does this game remind you of SWG a little bit? Any chance of player bases or homes down the road?Sorry to derail the subject- was born on Star Sider from release to the close of SWG. So I am really looking to the foundation that 3.0 brings to the alpha. I am an original backer for SC.

Greetings from an Ahazi migrant!

In the sense that you can be an “Uncle Owen” moisture farmer and not forced to be the Chosen One, yeah, SC should offer a similar sense of freedom to do and roam as you please.

Player created structures is definitely on their to-do list and they’re paving the way for having the land to do so with this planetary stuff. The “land rush” you see in other games will be probably pretty non-existent in SC.

That said, don’t expect anything like that during alpha 3.x. They need to flesh out a lot of tech and systems and gameplay loops before they get to that level of persistence.

Cool! I can wait. I have waited this long. Plus the pipeline for their art work takes an extreme amount of time. Ty Zor.

Note to self – when drinking and reading MOP – when scrolling down and I see the name “Schlag Sweetleaf” appear – STOP SCROLLING UNTIL I SWALLOW TO PREVENT SPRAYING OF MONITOR WITH LIQUID! (Because: Laughing so hard.) ;)

[As usual GOOD ONE Schlag.]

Didn’t they move 60 bugs or something aside just so they could get this done in a reasonable timeframe, wonder how long it’ll take for this to go live once all those bugs are back on the table?

Also, just in time for Elite’s Thargoids patch next week…. fancy that.

If they did, then the bugs were not important enough TO fix before launching.

So who cares. Alpha game is alpha.

They’ve had a year to work on this thing and even now they are having to reduce the feature set just so they can get something out, great if you don’t care but a lot of us are not so apathetic.

The point, which should be pretty obvious, is that the evocati release is largely irrelevant for the majority especially when they have to add 50+ bugs back into the build. The live release is probably still a couple of months away.

So if I don’t feel like doing air traffic anymore and leave – does everyone die?

Can’t tell if serious :) But ATC is not a player job, it’s for NPCs (at least now).
