I would be ecstatic if ArenaNet ever decided I didn’t have to participate in WvW as part of the requirements to make a legendary weapon. PvP is not my jam.

The question referencing SWTOR was weird. There is no forced grouping in Crisis on Umbara…

A little podcast pet peeve: Would it be possible to mention whatever game you’re talking about more than once at the beginning of a discussion? When you get into a long commentary about something and 3 people keep referring to “it” …

Been wanting this for years, it’s not only this podcast which does that. Super f’in annoying, 15 minutes later you’re like hey you know that does sound interesting but haven’t a clue what the f game it is. I haven’t listened to any podcasts for quite awhile now thinking about it.

Have to say my jaw dropped just now hearing Justin saying he thought the LOTRO Mordor expansion was tossed out with as little fanfare as the upcoming Everquest expansions have been so far. Maybe I’m just more keyed in to the LOTRO community right now but I saw a lot of hype around that expansion. There was the big announcement about Chance Thomas doing the score for it, plus releasing the 10th anniversary soundtrack, plus various other bits and pieces. Overall I think they did a much better job hyping that expansion, especially when you consider that Standing Stones is a much smaller company with presumably a much smaller PR budget. By comparison the EQ/EQ2 expansions have gotten little more than a few brief mentions in the producer’s letters and on Twitter along with a barely mention prelude event in game. Maybe the LOTRO fans did a lot to help drive that hype, but if you’re just comparing the efforts made by the companies there is no comparison IMO.

What he’s talking about is not “outside” PR. They didn’t put any real effort into selling the new expansion in advertising and that trailer was gawdawful. They ran information that only current players would notice in their website, login client and on Twitter. It really was a lackluster affair.

Oh man, I had forgotten that trailer. That was negative PR. :P

I am trying to remember – I think he was talking about PR specifically. I think SSG does a slightly better job than Daybreak, but it’s not much. SSG also doesn’t send out PR, for example. It’s not such a big deal for us since we follow all their channels, but it’s mystifying that they make so few attempts to get onto the mainstream sites. :/

Exactly, no real PR or advertising to get the word out on the new expansion. It’s a really low bar for SSG to rise above in comparison to Daybreak’s total lack of effort. Specially since basically Daybreak appears to mostly be ignoring EQ/EQII when it comes to promotion.

I honestly feel that EQ/EQII will only be around as long as they’re aiding Daybreak’s other mmo pursuits. Basically Daybreak is getting out of EQ/EQII what they can with as little effort as possible. The first quarter that EQ/EQII fail to be in the black they’ll start working on closing them down. That’s my blunt opinion.

Im feeling tempted to get back into GW2. I havent played since before HoT, and I think part of my problem was that I was trying to play it like a dungeon game, like I do most MMOs, which wasnt its strength at all. I was also trying to play a Condition necro backthen and in public events, cond was trash because of the bleed caps.

Think I may have to wait for at least a HoT sale, since Destiny 2 is coming out soon >_<. To many games I want.

Such bad math! 331+137=468, which is still 32 short of 500.

We’re getting LSW4, 2 months from the launch not 4 months. They have very public about that. Also, we’ll be getting Halloween in a month and more than likely the new raid wing. So..kind of nonstop content.

Here’s what I was able to find – seems like four months is closer to the estimate?

“Our rough plan is to slot the expansion pack into the release cadence as if it were an episode: episode 5, then episode 6, then the expansion pack, then episode 1. But we’ll make some allowance for the fact that shipping an expansion pack is a big deal logistically and will probably take longer than the 2~3 months we normally allocate between episodes.”

That was a few months ago; is there anything more recent suggesting it’ll be less than four months or more? And I dunno, I don’t see a raid wing and another rehashed Halloween as doing much for the rushers at all.

That quote is from when we still thought expansion 2 would come out 3-5 months after episode 6. They were just giving conservative estimates or they wanted it to be a surprise. It is waaaaay out of date.

PoF is just another episode to them when it comes to release cadence. It’ll be out in 2-3 months with the average being 2 months.

They haven’t ever given a date it is true, but they have stressed again and again that PoF is slotted in just like any other release and that we’re going right into season 4 with no content lull. Now they may release it more at the 3 month end of the spectrum rather than the 2 month so there’s less of a lull over the holiday break. Either way we’ll have episode 1 before the end of the year and we won’t have episode 2 until next year.

I’d love to be pointed to a place where they’ve actually said that. Nobody below can seem to find it either. :D The three month mark would be Christmas, and I don’t see them releasing something huge between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Maybe right BEFORE Thanksgiving, but that’d be two months total from launch to then. Doesn’t January seem more believable at this point?

I guess you weren’t watching the livestream they put on our launch day where the game director Mike Zadorojny said 2 months I guess.

I watched the full thing, but I’m not infallible you know and I don’t remember everything I hear :D As I say, I’d be delighted to be wrong, I just missed that being said and haven’t seen it written down.

No big deal. I’m just saying from Arenanets track record they don’t ship anything but Wintersday in December, ever. Most of the office is out for the holidays and things kind of go on a stand still for a month-2month. They try to release everything before December. This has a on going trend for 5 years for them, I highly doubt that will change. : P Especially since they re-allocated all their teams to ship things a lot smoother. I say to expect the LSW4 late November.

I’ll look at the ama for the recent episode 6. I think there they said it would be very close to the PoF launch.

Reader

Nothing after a brief inspection but I remember the 2 months thing too. Reading the quote you found though, originally I interpreted it as the expansion might take longer than the typical 2-3 months for a living story release. That made sense, because expansions are a big deal. Of course it also could mean that it might take longer for the living story to resume because expansions are a big deal.

I definitely haven’t heard 2 months but would be happy to be wrong on that :P In terms of a new raid, I think that’s more than likely 2 or even 3 months out to make space for Halloween… I don’t think it’ll be a simultaneous thing, but again, I’m happy to be wrong on thinking it’ll take a bit longer than your dates lol!
