Marvel Heroes gets Age of Apocalypse on consoles, while Gaz is working on a new game

Marvel Heroes has had a fairly quiet summer following the Omega showdown earlier this year, but there’s a clear reason for that: Gazillion is working on a new VR game for PC and consoles, possibly Star Trek-related, due out in March of next year, or so the studio’s recent (and utterly bizarre – it’s a rabbit hole) livestream suggested. In the meantime, the game has a huge patch and event live today, at least for players on Xbox One and PlayStation 4: Age of Apocalypse.

“This Apocalypse Awakens content will challenge even the most seasoned Marvel Heroes Omega players with heroes at level 11 or higher. Alone or in teams of as many as five heroes, players will confront En Sabah Nur’s forces in his Egyptian resurrection chamber. The new content will also feature all-new original Horsemen designs that unlock for Jean Grey, Storm, Psylocke and Magik. […] This new event not only allows players to fight against Horsemen versions of Jean Grey, Storm, Psylocke and Magik, it also allows players to unlock these versions as part of the new Apocalypse Loot Box or as a part of the Age of Apocalypse Event Omega Pack, both only available for a limited time. These four heroes will join Spider-Man as Omega Prestige characters, increasing their combat potential. Apocalypse Awakens introduces Omega items that can be earned through the new Omega difficulty setting, which can be achieved by passing the Omega Trial.”

There’s a new trailer down below. PC players, there’s nothing for you specifically today, but the stream does confirm that the studio aims to “unify” all three platforms and sync up updates by November, though we assume that doesn’t mean completely as there are PC mechanics consolers will never see.

As a PC gamer, and one that plays this game on PC, I agree with all the below posts. I’ve read them all, and they are all valid. For an MMO based on a major Superhero IP, our choices are DCUO or Marvel Heroes. I feel that between the choices given, Marvel Heroes is the lesser of two evils. I mean, hey, Champions is still out there, and it’s a fun game, but as far as major IPs go, this is it. If I want to play an MMO as Captain America, I have to play Marvel Heroes, and if I want to play in an MMO as Superman, I have to play DCUO. DCUO is a solid game that Daybreak is doing everything in their power to destroy, and Marvel Heroes is a solid game that Gaz seemingly abandoned. I don’t know which is worse, but for now I have to toss my lot in with Marvel Heroes simply because abandonment seems better than implosion.

All I see now in the PC game is the removal of items/options and the reshuffling of current content/systems then spin it as new. Nothing truly new to the game as far as I’m concerned. The BUE was supposed to streamline the systems so releasing content could speed up. WTH happened? In the ‘overly complicated, too many hotbars and overpowered’ previous system they released much more content than they do now. All those people that defended the BUE at the time are curiously silent. I’m sure they are just having too much fun playing the same content for the 576th time and a system that penalizes you for not choosing the right powers.

This game used to be a daily visit of fun but that option has now also been removed. It is fun once in a while and I have no more desire to purchase anything.

They basically used the PC crowd to push their game work out things then pretty much dumped them for the console market. If you are going to have a game on multiple platforms they should all be getting the same content at the same time. You don’t use one group to test for the other, ect… I understand the decision to go console because it is so much easier to make because you only have to worry about optimization for one system, but since they did the console push they have pretty much done hardly anything with the group that made their game a success to begin with. Bad move on a developers part.

The intent apparently IS just that that once done OMEGA will mean all versions can be updated at the same time. However getting to that has essentially meant they have ignored and done nothing for the PC players for well over a year. They went from being SUPER informative and forthcoming and proactive to being completely silent, dismissive and putting practically nothing out on PC. Then you have all the sneaky “not mentioned” changes to their Card drop rates, and daily rewards etc.. all moving it worward that horrendous F2pLoot crate heavy model of game people hate, which is what it WILL be at the end of all this.

I just real salty over all they are doing of late they have gone from being a company whose approach to F2p was imo outstanding to one who seemingly wants to turn all that good will into disatisfaction in its player base by blowing them off and then hitting them with loot crate heavy low returns F2p microtransaction nonsense at the completion of it..BUT on all platforms.

So disappointing.

Just another slap in the face for the people that gave the game its success… The PC crowd.. sure we’ll get it eventually but this whole spread it to the console thing should not have been at the expense of us, but rather in ADDITION to us.

The main guy at Gazillion in their last Twitch stream promised a no holds barred Q&A session soon where he would be forthcoming about everything… but I fear the damage may have already been done, and douche exclusion moves like this only make it worse. :(

The console version is vastly different in mechanics and gear stats than pc. The minute they do out omega on pc they will see another player exodus just like in February.

This is just a guess as to why the pc version appears to be in maintenance mode.

They’re risking their bread and butter game because of lack of content to make a VR game? Yeaaah that isn’t going to go well for them. The fact that a lot of VR games are now giving an option to turn off the VR requirement should tell them where VR is going in general.

Get the consoles and PC synched up and get to putting out steady content updates. THEN you can fool around with fads if you really must.

I was almost ready jump back into Marvel Hero’s for this. I love the AoA series and was excited to read this right up until I see PC is still a non existent thing for Gaz.

I really liked this game, but ever since they changed the mini-map I just can’t play it anymore. If they just added an option to disable hiding the map I’d probably go back to it.

Wow very sad to see PC players continually treated this way by Gazillion. Not only do we not have the Omega patch yet, we will not get this either.

Right now the guesstimate of when this is coming for PC, is late November (with Omega patch).

ddin’t realize this wasn’t on pc yet. i thought it was a catch up patch as the big apoclypse stuff was like a year ago or so in the comics and with the movie. lol

but yeah gazillion going downhill lately.the big talent ceo/designer left and then they shitted up things for the console release then shitted up the cash shop.

i guess they also removed fantastic four characters from sale for w/e reason but they could come back since some of them that have been missing are coming back in teh comics i guess.

This is actually the first time something hasnt come to the Pc first with this game. So needless to say..not impressed considering we have essentially kept thier lights on for the last few years.

FF4 were removed from sale due to the rights issues over them being in dispute with MARVEL and the guys that made the movies I believe..hence why there is also no more FF4 comics.

Yep, they are milking the consoles now. Fresh, new marks, I mean customers.

SO true! It has definitely changed big time recently with drop rates on cards (their version lockboxes) suddenly taking a very serious turn for the worse etc.. I’d put their F2p monetization on par with only other god awful f2p game at this point :(

afaik out of those characters they’ve got horseman costumes for only psylocke has been a horsemen and only in the movie LOL. seems awkward turn for a game that was for such a long time so faithful to teh actual comics.

but probably foreshadowed with them doing nick fury jr and labeling him without the jr part of his name i guess.

also seems rather late to add this, but i guess it would just be catching up to PC? the comics and movie tie ins were like last year lol.
