Star Citizen is down to just five critical issues to tackle before the Evocati see alpha 3.0

Another week, another countdown to Star Citizen alpha 3.0, and we are getting close. In this week’s Around the Verse, Cloud Imperium says it’s still got 5 issues left to work on, a reduction of two since last week, although it hit 0 at one point before creeping back up.

The feature segment this week is all about the stuff you touch: the useables system. It’s everything from the hacking panels and medical tools to even more simple things like sitting in chairs, which as we all know is traditionally difficult for sci-fi MMOs to pull off. (Ahem.) The system isn’t just for the player, either; even the AI NPCs make use of the interactions.

Good news for you guys obsessed with space toilets, too: CIG has “finally settled on toilet metrics,” says Lead Animator Brian Brewer. “We’ve captured a couple little moves we needed to ‘flush out’ our toilet system.” I watched to the very end for this quote. You’re welcome.

so 5 more critical problems to solve before its capable of absolute baseline level performance for an alpha?

And how big is the list of non-critical issues?

Why is anyone excited about this?

Reader
Jonny Sage

Because weve played it.

Reader
Brian McBride

Is it me, or is the excitement around a version bump of an Alpha test seem a bit over hyped?

Call my surviving great grandchildren when they release to production.

Reader
GoJammit

Maybe the problem is your perception. You calling it a version bump is probably downplaying it just a tad. If they were going this gaga over a switch from 2.0 to 2.1, I’d probably agree. But the leap between whatever it is now and 3 will be very significant. Significant for this game at least. Actual mission givers, a lot more locations to visit, not always waking up in your bunck as though nothing ever happened, mining. There is a lot being added to this next version. Hell even the fact that they finally with have a patcher that makes sense is kind of a big deal, as the current patcher has stopped a lot of people from even bothering to update because of their pathetic bandwidth caps.

I don’t think it’s just you . Given the hype level you would think the game was about to be released . From what I understand of 3.0 though it will be a major step forward into realizing a persistent universe but since the inception the featureset of 3.0 has been changed and downscaled several times .

Three members of my Secret World cabal play SC and none of them expect it before 2020 now at the earliest . They tell what there is of the game at the moment is quite a lot of fun but they all think the development has been so ambitious that they have got themselves into a bit of a mess .

My guess is it will release in the early 2020’s but in a vastly scaled down form than what was originally envisioned . I wonder if Chris Roberts will be leading development by that time because some of his recent statements make me wonder whether the stress is starting to affect his health and if that is the case he may have to step down or step back .

Reader

Quote Roo Woods:”I wonder if Chris Roberts will be leading”… This is the new underground “drama”…. CR’s burnout :)

3.0 is coming and only 4 patch remaining with full pipelines and game engine uptodate + 428 employees.
I won’t be surprised that we got at least 3 patch (much smaller than 3.0) by end of 2018. Let’s see what Citizencon bring about SQ42 Chapter 1 information.

Reader
roo woods

Even if you get three much smaller patches by the end of 2018 it’ll still be nowhere near release .

And this time last year most backers were estimating SQ42 in the latter part of 2017 but now they seem to be happy with some information on Chapter One at Citizen con .

This time next year I imagine more views of this development through the same rose coloured glasses .

As for Chris Roberts health I hope he’s alright but some of what he has said in recent months seems a bit erratic to say the least .

They should rename this Orville Redenbacher Citizen…for the amount of /popcorn that is consumed watching this game get developed. o.O

CR told a german magazine 4-6 weeks until 3.0 at gamescom 4~ weeks ago. the answer to meeting that date was ofc to remove 70 or so blockers from teh to do list further cutting back 3.0.

edit they also said there was only about 5 blockers like a week ago iirc. in any case it’s not news and this is probably the most redundant and useless ATV ever made. lol

good times.

Just because they take care of some blockers doesn’t mean others can’t pop up. If the build isn’t stable enough to be tested effectively, then it simply shouldn’t be in the hands of the testers. Thankfully, not all bugs are blockers, or we wouldn’t see any of the game until launch. And yet, some people may choose to wait until then anyway.

you know this might almost make sense if you didn’t have the context of almost every previous patch of the game for context. like i do.

i think they commented 5 on twitter in the past week.

which makes sense because this video is filmed on mondays and posted on thursdays :P

Reader

Actually, it used to be filmed on Tuesdays and posted about 3pm Eastern on Thursdays. Now they seem to be recording and editing up to the last minute to hit a “still technically Thursday Pacific Time” release of the video. The production value is definitely higher than it used to be though.

i mean they tweet every monday that they are filming it that day. but ok

also the ATV is generally posted in the morning/early afternoon eastern time…

You should hop in general chat on Thursday nights when everyone’s waiting for CIG to post it. For months now it’s been coming out around midnight or later Eastern time, with the last two being about 2am Eastern. But technically that’s still Thursday on the west coast.

As for them recording on Mondays now, I don’t disagree. I was pointing out they used to film on Tuesdays and release a lot earlier on Thursdays, so the production times were shorter, but the quality was also lower.

also watch out for the newest concept ship sale incoming shortly, featuring colour pallette swapped variants.

as you can guess the cheapest variant will probably be a next to no guns or armour ship, followed by some kidn of exploration ship for an extra $20, followed by the all the gun upgrades variant for an extra $40.

reminding you all star citizen isn’t pay2win at all how can someone think such a thing? XD

i hope theres a “dont go in there for 5 minutes” animation when coming out

I can’t decide if they are “pulling our leg” over details like ‘toilet flush physics’, or if they are actually that bogged down in minutiae.

The latter would certainly explain a lot.

Reader
roo woods

I wonder are these actually bugs or are they trying to work out how to flush turds into outer space as part of their pooping mechanic ( and more importantly will those turds be polished ) .

Reader
Armsbend

Maybe they are taking their cues from Donnie Trump. Get people worked up about nothing (feces/football) to take away from the fact that neither have any idea what they are doing as their project spins out of control – like a toilet gone mad.

Reader
Kickstarter Donor
Greaterdivinity

All I know is that if they have toilet flush physics, they’d better damn well ensure that planets with sufficient spin cause toilets to flush in opposite directions depending on where you are on the planet.

Otherwise my immersion will be completely ruined.

(I don’t care if this is a myth or not!)

Will they have cloth/paper physics that extend to toilet paper? Will I be able to choose between wadding or folding? THESE ARE IMPORTANT DECISIONS IN SPACE!

Reader
GoJammit

In the future will they deal wit hthat whole flushable wipes situation. When I’m in space, I need my ass to be clean as a whistle.

will i have the choice on how ot mount my tp roll? back to front vs front to back?

Reader

Or will you put it vertically so that you pull the roll horizontally? This an area with a lot of room for depth and complexity, I hope CIG takes sufficient time and budget to fully explore it!
