Star Citizen debuts Origin X1 racer concept ship for sale

If you need a break from counting down the time until Star Citizen alpha 3.0 is here, you could always just go buy a new concept ship. The new Origin X1 racing bike is a stylish futuristic speedster is more lightly armed than its contemporaries but makes up for it with a second shield generator and extra toughness. In lore, it’s described as

“a fast, maneuverable open-canopy racer that’s as much of a work of art while at rest as it is in motion. With thrusters seemlessly integrated into the sleek hull, the X1 organically fuses function with form and continues Origin’s proud legacy of luxury perfection.”

The low-end version will set you back just $35, but if you have cash to splash around on pixels, there’s a $1200 addon pack as well. You should probably check the new Q&A (and maybe yourself) before whipping out a credit card, however, as the X1 will not actually make it into alpha 3.0; it’s set for a more distant date.

Last week, the team at one point had the must-fix bug list down to 0, but it crept back up, forcing another delay for Evocati testers. Expect the latest update, in addition to the monthly report, by tomorrow.

Well, colour me surprised: another ship (well, “bike”) sale for money that adds another couple of months to this fiasco. We are going to be sitting here in two years time with more imaginary items being sold and no game to play. I can’t believe people are falling for this – open your eyes people!!

If these comments teach me anything it’s that investment breeds solid foot-soldiers.

Once they are invested in it they become totally engulfed in denial when anyone questions that this game will ever be made.

This is truly amazing. I wish I had a company that didn’t need to deliver a production ready product and got people to continually purchase never-ending digital assets for the product that I never finish.

I wonder if Pokemon-Go could sell “upcoming” Pokemon but never actually get them into the game?

I wonder if Nike could sell shoes that never actually get made and shipped to consumers?

I could snort the jealousy around here up with a nose-straw.

it has taken a long time, longer than it needed because CR allowed feature creep, but

I know it won’t quell the FUD or change the snark-pit that this comment section has degenerated into, but its one step closer

I see public opinion finally seems to be turning against CIG. I remember a time not so long ago when any criticism of Star Citizen, no matter how well-meaning or benign, was quickly shouted down with the usual credibility attacks, ‘haters gonna hate’, ‘you know nothing of game development’, ‘look how long swtor took to make’, etc, etc.

To my mind the whole concept ship sale thing struck me from the get go as all kinds of wrong; way overpriced engineering debt. Further, Roberts rips off the most cheesy and cliched tropes from Star Wars, Top Gun, Dune, to say nothing of jingoistic Hollywood war movies, yet fans think he’s some kind of visionary and game storytelling god. No words!

Nobody except you called him storytelling god but yes, he is a great visionary for space sims. Its foolish to argue with that.

I just want to know why that road has ridges. Did Ruffles become a construction brand?

I know it’s meant to be speed and light streaks, but it really is too aggressive and looks like some giant long black potato chip.

This game is destined to fail. I’ve said it before, but it will never make more money than it’s making right now, and that’s a horrible thing for an unreleased product.

Wonder when SC will realize that the most valuable thing they own is the backers list ordered by amount spent :)
