Leaderboard: Are you one of the 2M people playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds today?

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds just keeps on growing globally: It’s completely outstripped every other game on Steam in terms of concurrency, having now set a new record of 2M concurrent this weekend. As GIbiz points out, its closest competitor now is Valve’s own Dota 2, which saw 700K concurrency over the same period. That’s up a million for PUBG just since last month, with 13M copies sold to date. Oh, and did I mention it’s still in early access?

We’ve previously noted that the game is primarily pulling from the CSGO audience, but now it looks to be hitting the other top games too – H1Z1 especially, whose peak concurrency has dropped a full third since August – and I have a few guildies playing who normally play MMOs. How about you?Β Are you one of the 2M people playing PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds today? Let’s take it to a Leaderboard poll.

Are you interested in PUBG? (Multiple responses allowed.)

Only if pushed into it.

Nope. Even though I am in the right demographic for it.

Maybe if it goes on sale at sometime later on and it still has players i’ll jump in, but for now the free Fortnite is enough for me. Still got H1Z1 laying about too if I ever wanted to try that again.

Ok. For those of you who don’t think you will like it. Check out this vid. Streamer Loserfruit, an Aussie, checks it out for the first time with friends. It is the type of fun I have when I play with my friends. You can’t take anything seriously, and you relax and enjoy.

Nope. I’d like to try it but I don’t want to buy it. Looks pretty fun though.

Yes, I am one of those who fall into the “Who?” crowd.

(Yeah, we’re at 5%, 6 votes currently when posting this apparently. :( )

I have some performance issues with it, but overall PUBG is entertaining. The different vehicles are fun and any game where you can deflect bullets with a frying pan, then smack someone gets my vote.

Lol! Yeah, I love that fry pan. On occasion I have used it as my main weapon.

Nay. PVP games are far in my past. I don’t even try to compete with players anymore. My twitch shooting skills are not what they used to be.

I have H1Z1 King of the Hill in my Steam library, but never installed it. I’ve PUBG in my Steam wishlist (near the top) but have yet to buy it. Fortnite Battle Royale is F2P. I’ve watched a great deal of Twitch streams of all 3 games.

The thing that bothers me the most about them is the incessant 3-stepping about and constant jumping one has to do to play the games well enough for a respectable finish. Make no mistake, I like my ARPG’s and action-combat MMO’s (TERA, B&S, et al).

If I have to move about like a I’m on a rave dance floor or jump like a monkey hopped-up on amphetamines just to survive long enough to be successful, then these are not the games for me. It is completely counter-intuitive to what one would actually do to survive. Give me ARMA 3, instead. I appreciate that so many millions seem to like/love this genre, but count me out.

**I do want to make one caveat: I actually had a decent go in the Star Wars Battlefront 2 multi-player beta (it’s actually been extended a couple of days now). I’m not very good at all in the ground combat, but it’s still fun. I have, however, finished at the top of some of the starfighter assault leaderboards…so there’s that. :)

The silly stuff like jumping around and “dancing” is much more of a H1Z1 and Fortnite thing. Before PlayerUnknown made Battlegrounds he made the Battle Royale mod in ARMA 3 and PUBG is clearly spawned from an ARMA player’s mind.

The way popular streamers play these games is also not what it looks like when normal people play. You can perform well in games without all that.

Nope. I like pvp but with objectives other than surviving and killing. In top of that FPS are not my cup of tea. I feel like if I play PUBG I ‘d get bored after a week.

PUBG is fun as hell.

Yeah, it may not have stellar graphics, and the game play is simplistic, to say the least. And yet, it is fun, and strangely addictive.

The key is that you really don’t have to be that good to have success. And because of the gaming mechanic forcing you to move ever closer together for combat, the elite can’t dominate as they do other games. There is a winner every round aka “a chicken dinner”. But often it comes down being at the right place at the right time.

PUBG is one of the most enjoyable games you can play with a group of friends.

Important question though: Can you roll something small, pink and pigtailed in it? Answering that in the positive, might bring this game into a better light for me. <3

Lol! Not small and pink. You can get pink gear from time to time I suppose. You start off with nothing and you find everything.

But… no Lyns. There must be some rule about Lyns with guns.

:(

…but thanks for letting me know! :)

Pretty sure PUBG has already hit 14 million copies according to Steamspy.

Game looks alright, but it definitely needs more features to get me to play, once it’s out of early access and goes gold, then I’ll give it go.

I very much look forward to the mods for the game.

I like shooting make-believe people in their make-believe faces as much as anybody, but I need my games to have more than just that. Plus I find modern military settings boring as can be.

I have very little interest in FPS titles unless they’re of the more realistic variety, like Squad. I love that game to death.

PVP and FPS is the 2 things I am least interested… imagine the combination of both..

ZERO interest, those kinds of games have no interest for me because they are all about PVP and I have absolutely and unequivocally no interest in that kind of gameplay it does not bring me joy or fun on any level.
When it comes to playing with other people co-operative is good, competitive is however..just toxic.

Not played it myself but a few of my guild from Rift are . I hear good things .

Never tried it. Not even planning to. Not my type of game

Been following this independently for a few weeks now. For those interested, the math is that presently 1 in 7 logged on Steam users is playing PUBG as an average for about the last week.

I have it. It’s fun, but still needs work. Melee weapons are almost useless. Needs a kill cam in solo mode (it’s an invaluable learning tool for newcomers). Wall vaulting can’t come soon enough. I jump in now and then, but mostly waiting for the launch version.

It’s been a couple weeks since I last played, but I enjoy the game a great deal. I usually go Duo with my best friend and we have a blast together.

Reader
Schmidt.Capela

Nah, not the kind of PvP I enjoy. I prefer infinite respawns and/or short match duration on a much smaller arena.

It’s on Steam, so no. Also not a big fan of games where you die before you realize you’re being shot at.

There are a couple of streamers I watch that play PUBG all the time. They use the game as a jumping off point for some really funny streams that are a lot of fun. That has tempted me a couple of time to the point I was hovering over the buy button on steam.

Then I think back and see them get shots where I didn’t even see who they were shooting at until it was over. I just think to myself that I will perpetually be the one being instagibbed and I don’t see myself ever getting beyond that either my reflexes and sight are just not what they were.

I will continue to watch the streams but I don’t think I will ever buy PUBG myself.
