Blizzard sues alleged Overwatch clone, bans World of Warcraft cheaters

Gone are the days when Chinese companies could get away with ripping off games left and right: Blizzard is going after another one of these alleged copyright-violating piles of crap.

The game in question is mobile title Heroes of Warfare; Japanese publication PC Watch reports that Blizzard’s Chinese conglom and publisher NetEase are suing the the maker, demanding and apology, restitution, and removal from Apple’s appstore, on the grounds of IP violations in China.

Meanwhile, stop cheating, cheaters. Your day has come, as the studio has apparently begun another round of six-month bans to folks who use cheat tools. Stoppit.

And in happier Blizzard news… here’s the whole WoW dev team. The fluffy white dog on the left personally made the no-flying-in-Argus decision, we’ve been informed by the PR collie being hoisted over on the right.

This is a revolving door of income and security theater for Bliz. Many of the cheaters just buy another account and keep going.

that photo if I remember correctly cost blizzard one hundred fifty thousand dollars around the launch of diablo three why in the world would they ever post it again. Is someone trying to cost the studio so much money they go under?

Could you elaborate how the photo cost Blizzard money? Like….what exactly is wrong with a team photo that cost them money?

I would need to see confirmation of that outrageous price but having said that 150K is a drop in the bucket for a company like Blizz.

Josh Allen if I remember had to pay it out of pocket, but anything I could post could be fake so you would have to visit a public library to look up the old newspapers, on microfilm. Either way it was considered a public decency mater and had docket number and everything. I was getting asked by friends about legal things so I remember it. If you crop the picture you lose some of the team it no longer has the decency issue. That was just after blizzard and activision spent a lot of money to buy up all the stock from toys r us and individual stake holders.

. . . the pic of wow’s teams(what…almost 20 years including initial development) size just made nearly every other MMO developer cry ;P

Reading the botter forums on ban day is a real hoot.

Reader
TherecDaMage .

My favorite part is most of the botters are pissed off at the bot devs, rather than Blizzard, for making bots that were detectable and got the botters banned again.

The complete absence of owning up to your own actions is mind blowing.

those are fun. gotta link?

Reader
Schmidt.Capela

Not a good idea to spread links to those places, as it makes finding bots easier for players on the fence about botting.

choice anger:
“Banned on my main until April 2019. Sure, it’s the price you pay for botting, but what shit quality HB is. Blizzard developers just took these idiots to school. HB is dead and Bossland is dead.”
