Here’s what to expect from Star Citizen’s CitizenCon this weekend

Star Citizen’s annual CitizenCon event is almost here, kicking off in the Capitol Theater in Frankfurt, Germany, on Friday, with plenty of player panels, science discussions, science-fiction discussions, developer demonstrations, and of course, the requisite presentation by Chris Roberts himself.

And yes, attendees will be treated to playable demos of alpha 3.0., along with what will presumably turn into copious amounts of booze at the pub. Pubs. Plural.

The whole shebang will be streamed live on Twitch for those who can’t be there in person beginning at 3 p.m. local time Friday with an opening address from Chris Roberts. Frankfurt is six hours ahead of the US east coast and nine ahead of the west coast, so bear that in mind if you’ll be trying to watch from the US.

CIG pls amaze me again. Like last year presentation. For those who didnt see it:

So… one year ago they were showing a Version 2 of the thing. Pretending that it runs on 60FPS (of course, in a total not legit environment that is way far from the reality that the game is supposed to run).
One year later, not even what could be considered the version 0.1 of that is out and what was shown is available now… better not to mention the FPS (or the rigs, or the online environment were they barely ran – still broken anyway).

Do you want to be amazed?

Check that Vanduul capital ship that seems a Duck’s head. Certainly passed many times from the filter of the perfectionist Chris Roberts to come with this “awesome” design of a Duck’s Head. I wonder if with such design, they are trying to say something to their backers:

Of course it does not really matter too much, what design they use, for things that are just vaporware and continue to be years and years after their “real in-game footage” is usually shown/demo’ed.

Well… at least for the backers who want the promised game they paid for. For people willing to perpetuate grey market/ship sales/jpeg sales, obviosuly matters a lot and they are looking forward that “RSI amazes people”.

If you are not one of them, it seems you like to be conned (and call this “to be amazed”).

Thanks Tufao. This Driller Vanduul ship flying over in a canyon is exactly why backers pledged for. No Publishers, just a game for Backers by Backers :)

What would the convention cost and what all is included?

Tickets were €50 for the event, don’t think there’s much in the way of extra stuff included in with the ticket, basically it looks to be the cost of entry.

If you’re asking about the cost of the convention, the venue doesn’t have a public price list. Though I’d be surprised if the ticket sales didn’t covered all of the costs involved with enough left over for a decent bar tab.

I think it would be hilarious if they put up a big sign saying that the con was postponed until perhaps mid 2018.

Game dev is slow though how much progress could they have made in two months. Really can’t think of anything they could show.

Normal development houses can make ridiculous amounts of progress in two months.

@armsbend The race to the finish line is crazy in the software world. Almost every programmer I have known is a habitual procrastinator.

I have no doubt the development teams could have been better directed/staffed. I’m also aware that this team is being asked to do the impossible by an egotist known for reaching far beyond his grasp. I’m one of many idealists who enabled this beautiful chaotic mass of a game, so if I blame anyone other than Chris Roberts, it’s myself.

I’m rather proud of those who work on the project, in spite my many criticisms and my less-than-sanguine outlook for the game’s prospects. Still, simple things like female avatars seem like they should have been introduced to the iterative pipeline a long time ago.

Steve – right, most of these people are just trying to make an honest living.

Awesome, I knew this was on the horizon but had no idea it was close, something to look forward for over the weekend!

I really hope we got some information on SQ42

Now to figure out the time conversions for NZ

I think that’ll be starting in the very small hours of the morning. Believe doors open at 12pm UTC, so adding another 12 or 13 hours to that for NZ, then probably another 5 or 6 hours for general activities and stuffing about before the main presentation. So I’d be expecting the main presentation some time around 8 am (NZ time) on Saturday. I could be wrong.

Just remembered they released a schedule (maybe shown below). I believe those are local times for the venue, so 9pm in Frankfurt for the main presentation.

It usually ends up being early morning my time, sadly I am a lazy bugger and never get up early on weekends so I usually end up trying to source it on YouTube

Same with EVE FanFest, FrontierCon etc haha

No info on SQ 42, they will do that on their holiday stream. It was said a week ago I think.

But I thought 3.0 was meant to be more than a playable demo at citizencon by now !

At this point I’m not sure anything matters until they get a beta out the door.

$1000 dollar ships, or $50 dollar ships?

Reader
steve

Looks like $850, in “limited quantities”.

$850 gets you the Consolidated Outlands Pioneer, rumored to be a ‘game changer’ base-building ship.

The more I observe this, the more I think these ships are gatekeepers to multiplayer content. Money-grubbing aside, it’s an interesting spin on multiplayer content.

“what will presumably turn into copious amounts of booze at the pub. Pubs. Plural.”

However much booze is involved it won’t be enough.

There really aren’t any female cosplay opportunities, so I’m out. This is one of those 95%+ sausage fests. 😂. They better have good and free tequila. Which we know is not the case. Free drink ticket with each ship purchase!

Yeah, disappointed that SC is like that.
