Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris brings Mercury, a level cap increase, and another Firefly actor

Ready for Destiny 2’s next big thing? You have about a month to prepare.

Curse of Osiris, the first major post-launch content update for the sci-fi shooter, is scheduled to arrive on December 5th for PC and consoles. VG247 has the rundown of the update’s key features, including:

  • The planet Mercury
  • A level cap increase to 25 and a power level cap increase to 330
  • New missions, adventures, and a raid
  • Universal accessibility to the Lighthouse social area
  • A PlayStation 4-exclusive Crucible map

So why head to that small, melted lead-temperature planet? Players will be seeking out an exiled warlock and fighting the Vex. Another Firefly veteran, Morena Baccarin, is set to join the cast for the update. This brings the grand total up to three, with Nathan Fillion and Gina Torres already voicing characters.

Completely off topic… But Firefly was 15 years. ago.

Just let that sink in for a moment…. 15 whole years.
Yeah, kinda snuck up on me too and makes me oh so sad every time I think about it.
… and don’t get me started about Babylon 5

As much as I love Summer Glau – I wouldn’t say her strengths lie in voice acting. Plus, if I’m honest I always favoured River over Summer. For much the same reasons I preferred Faith over Buffy and Tara over Willow. Quickly moving on…

Regardless anything that keeps Jewel Staite in the public eye could only be a good thing. And having seen highlights of various conventions, I would even go so far as to offer the blasphemous opinion that I’d rather meet Jewel than Kaylee… and I LOVE Kaylee.

Realistically though, Adam Balwin is the person you want voice acting in your games… I mean if James Earl Jones and Edward James Olmos aren’t available of course. I’d throw Wil Wheaton into the mix too, but I’d rather he kept narrating my favourite audiobooks.

Are people really going to play a game because a studio had enough money to bring in some C-List’ers to voice a character?

Wow… they are quite literally lifting my favorite cast of characters from any modern TV show and putting them straight into Destiny. They should just drag the entire cast of Firefly in, as far as I’m concerned.

Also, this expansion looks good. I’m really enjoying Destiny 2, largely because it’s Destiny 1 with a nice coat of polish.

Jewel Straite next please

Staite. Jewel Staite.

Sorry to be “that guy”, but I want to ensure that anyone who Googles the name lands on the right person.

And yes, I love her, along without pretty much everyone else from the show. Grab them all, as far as I’m concerned.

Love Nathan Fillion but I cannot stand cayde-6. Every scene and audio clip with him in it they had to force in some sarcastic joke every other line. It’s too much.

Love me some good sarcastic humor, but when it’s so frequent you forget the game started so moody and serious you may as well just embrace the fact you’re borderlands without the art style and step away from the serious setting for your visuals and story.

While I love cayde I do agree he tends to get old. Partially because the jokes are heard over and over again if you run multiple strikes and partially what you listed above.

Tbh zavala might be the funniest due to the ridiculous effort put into every line.

I’m not sure if the voice actor is doing it in jest or if bungie really wanted him to sound like an overacted cliché bone head commander. Either way his lines are pretty damn funny.

Oh and Morena Baccarin! Thumbs up!

All they need is Jewel Staite and Alan Tudyk and I’ll never play another game again.

What no Summer Glau?

Yup most of the newer generation will mostly recognize her as Ryan Reynolds love interest in Deadpool.

She popped up in the few episodes of Gotham I watched too

I always thought she should be in something playing Kristin Kreuk’s older sister, they have a similar feeling vibe somehow.

She was also Anna in the remake of V. She has had a good career since Firefly. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1072555/?ref_=tt_cl_t6

Oh yes! That’s what I like! A major update for players shortly after launch. Keeps things fresh and exciting.

What I don’t like? You can guess. This PS4 exclusive shit is going to get old really quickly. And you know, while I’m still enthralled with the game, I can see myself choosing something else that doesn’t make me feel like a second class citizen soon too.

They need the voice talent, because their script is…yeah.

“Humanity flourished…until it didn’t.”

I’m down though. Enjoying the game still, just slowly plugging away at getting my light level up and still have nightfalls to try. More content pleases me.

The impression I got from the “humanity flourished…” cutscene is that a bunch of exposition got cut that was supposes to follow the delivery of the line, making it land with a thud. It’s the failure to follow that ckear set up line that makes it stick, not that it is really all that bad in and of itself.

If it got cut there then it got cut elsewhere too, as there’s a bunch of other lines that land in a similar way – I think it’s just the way the script is.

I wasn’t even sure I liked any of the characters until Cayde says “It’ll be a short date” and I really liked the way it was delivered. Only found out afterwards it was Nathan Fillion of course.

Personally, I find the writing to be on the “acceptable for a video game” level of quality: aka, bad in any other medium. I think we’re getting used to decently written games, so when something comes along that’s merely functional, the weak bits really show. But much of the script feels like it was an editing room thing: the entire intro sequence feels gutted to me, as there is no real explanation as to who these people are or what us going on.

They just need more Cayde. Dude is hilarious
