Blink and you might have missed Project Gorgon’s brand-new user interface

After weeks if not months of the studio talking about it, Project Gorgon’s brand-new user interface finally arrived. And then it promptly left again.

In all fairness, the team had cautioned that the optional November 11th update was a “very rough preview” of the UI overhaul. So rough, in fact, that the team took the update offline for further refinements due to several large bugs and potential exploits discovered with it. The improved UI preview should arrive in the game’s alpha next weekend.

Nevertheless, the user interface revamp has a lot of players and the devs excited. Not only does the new UI look pretty slick, but it offers a lot more functionality compared to the old one, including customization, more information, collapsible skill trees, chat channel management, context menus, improved tooltips, and font scaling.

What is the state of this project? How far along is development, and if there is some sort of release planned, what are we looking at? Months, a year, 3 years from now?

I have been playing it off and on for over a year and from what I have gathered beta will hit this next year and at the same time early access on steam. Then it’s however long beta takes till the official launch.I am betting a year and a half or so from now but could be longer.

As a software engineer with 14 years experience I can tell you that if it’s possible to exploit anything via UI, the problem is not the UI but the server. Very bad sign.

Yeah, time to go back to the MVC-class. Joking apart, we don’t know how the UI is being exploited, and this kind of problem occur like in every game, in particular with the indie ones. So, well, it’s not that surprising nor troubling. Imho.

That is a large step, better UI for sure, glad to see icons with words … i got a snarky tweet from designer because i dared to ask for words with icons in some app, not the first time i feel some UI designers have words allergy!

Whenever I think about the gaming industry and the avarice therein, I’m reminded of games like Project Gorgon, and I’m relieved.

GUI improvements, just a rough look? That’s fine. I’m loving the fact this game just keeps going and improving. They have my full support.

The new UI is an absolutely huge step in legitimising PG as a top-tier MMO (or near the top anyway, imho).
