Bluehole’s Ascent: Infinite Realm prepares for its first beta on December 13th

Let’s get the bad news out of the way right out of the gate. The first beta for Ascent: Infinite Realm (the next game from Bluehole Studios, remember) is going to be in Korean, seeing as how the game is being developed by a Korean studio and all. If you’re looking forward to the game and your only language spoken is English, you will be out of luck. But at least you may not be out of luck very long, as the game is heading into beta quickly, with the first test starting up on December 13th.

Players will be able to experiment with all five of the game’s classes (Sorcerer, Mystic, Warlord, Gunner, and Assassin) as well as playing around with the game’s airships for some of the PvP modes. Check out a trailer and screenshots below; you may not be able to get into the game’s first round of beta testing, but with the fast pace it’s got for that first test, you can hope it’ll be coming over sooner rather than later. At least we know that Kakao is bringing it out over here.

I really like that the weapons don’t seem grotesquely oversized, as they do in many Asian MMO’s. I’m definitely interested in this one.

I’m pretty hyped about this game. The only thing I don’t like so far is gender-locked classes, but they stated in an FAQ on the main site that males and females will have mirror classes. We’ll seeee.

The only thing that lacks ambition based on what I’ve seen are the anodyne, gender-locked classes.

Awesome! I’m looking forward to this one coming ashore here, so it’s good to hear they’re steamrolling along toward launch in Korea.

The real question is what kind of cash shop shenanigans will be inserted AFTER the beta.

All MMORPGs are grindy or well are meant to be largely. The whole making them not grindy til end game seems to appease people like you, but they are still grindy games period.

Would the world be better without there being MMOs at all?

Sometimes I think this is what large part of the most vocal MMO gamers want.

There is something negative to be said about all developers and publishers – none can be perfect. But that these negative issues are turned into opposition to the existence and playing of all games by them…

We couldn’t play a single game from any developer or publisher if we would follow that attitude to its logical end.

Would the world be better without there being MMOs at all? No

There is no need to forbid the MMOs just because there is a developer that doesn’t take seriously the security of their games, and a publisher that isn’t concerned or able to detect the problems before selling us the software.

And it’s unfair to the other developers that are forced to do many thing server side, while these koreans use the client side. And why? because in Korea you are forced to play with your real ID, so the chances of exploiting or hacking are close to 0.

What can players do? Let the publishers know that they cant play with our security as we are giving their software full internet access to our computers.

How?

Not forgetting issues like the TERA one.
