Darkfall: New Dawn launches on January 26, 2018

At this point, it’s an odd year when Darkfall isn’t launching. Darkfall: New Dawn has announced that the game will launch on January 26th, 2018, complete with a new launch trailer to celebrate the upcoming milestone. There’s also a series of improvements to the game’s official site, including the option to pre-order via buying several months of subscription time in advance. Be warned, though, you may not be able to purchase a 12-month subscription once the game launches, so now is your one chance to get in on that for just 75 Euros!

(That’s about $90 for those of us in the states.)

More comments about launch features are promised in the coming days, which makes sense as there’s still about two months left before the game becomes reality. If you’re looking forward to the latest take on an indie relaunch for the title, by all means, get hyped up with the trailer down below.

best pvp mmo out there!
game is a bomb if you can bear a quiet non existing tutorial as a new player and a harsh open pvp world.
don’t get fooled by the trailer, the game is a lot better than that!

Ill be playing. This one sounds like the better DF 1.0, and that was one of the best sandbox MMOs Ive played.

It’ll be dead in two months, max.

It’s sibling Darkfall: Rise of Agon is still going on – and supposedly seeing mild increase in players – so I think that’s overtly pessimistic.

The two Darkfall games might, of course, end up dividing what is already a niche audience between each other and end up committing double suicide…

When I look at these kinds of games, I really think they should just man up and admit that they are group-required games. Basically, save everyone a lot of grief by making the city guards refuse to let you out of the gates solo.

Its a sandbox. Youre free to run out alone and die if you want. And I have no doubt I will be killed by solo gankers many times.

I grow weary of people using “It’s a sandbox” to excuse poor gameplay and bad design decisions. You will note the way I described the city guards refusing to let you out the gates? One assumes there are always other ways to sneak in or out of a city, if you really are intent on avoiding law enforcement…

But, for the majority of people who might want to throw money at the game, they won’t ENJOY being ganked every third step, so the most obvious way to avoid this is to be forced to join a group… or, find another way if you really think you want to solo.

What sandbox really means these days is “We’re too lazy to write content, so we’ll make it a PvP sandbox and let the players figure out how to amuse themselves.” The thing everyone forgets is that a sandbox isn’t persistent. When you go back out to play in it tomorrow, whatever you built might have been washed away, or the neighborhood stray dog dug around in it and probably pooped. :)

I grow weary of people complaining about ganking in game they dont even want to play. Show me a sandbox with rules thats fun, and youll convince me. Until then, theres plenty of themeparks for those who want a more safe space to play in.

Show me a sandbox without rules. You’ve never played in one, ever. There are always rules. You can’t kill people. You can’t throw rocks at them. You can’t play after dark. You can’t play today because it’s raining. If your brother/sister is building a sand castle, you can’t kick it down.

All we are arguing about is what rules exist, and if you’d prefer a game with 1,000 people in it, or a game with 100,000 people in it. HINT: If you aim for the 1,000 person audience, expect the game to go under AGAIN, since the devs can’t make enough money from that small of an audience.

I’m looking forward to logging in and getting ganked repeatedly while naked with no weapons in the newbie zones

Me too! Some of the more fun times Ive had in DF. Especially when you thwart them and take their stuff instead.

The video looks good! And it totally gave me flashbacks of Shadowbane…
