Wild West Online’s early access has been delayed into next year

In a move that will shock nobody who’s played the game, watched the game being played, or followed the multiple delays suffered by the game during its testing this fall, 612 Games has delayed the early access launch of Wild West Online and will not launch it on Steam in 2017 as promised as recently as November 15th, when the alpha for early access began.

“While we originally entertained the idea of releasing this year in December… the last few weeks have showed us that we clearly need to spend more time in Early Access Alpha before we’ll be ready to release the game to a larger audience. In short, no, Wild West Online will not officially release in December this year,” wrote the developers last night on Facebook, saying that they’re still working on specific mechanics they want in for launch. Those include “mounted combat on horseback, hunting wild animals as well as more structured PVP events and global events happening in the world that you can participate in,” though apparently “a number of gameplay issues” are also stopping the rollout.

More information on the game’s roadmap is expected later today.

I played the first Alpha test and was fairly impressed. Happy to see they are not rushing it. Game has a lot of potential.

You could say “there is no there there”

But really it’s the pve players who got what they wanted and gutted the game.

Mass will do maybe one more blog but then rdr will come out and Wild West online will be a ghost town.

Well, even more of a ghost town.

Maybe because Open World full pvp gamers don’t sustain a game? You NEED casual PvE players.

Is it me, or weren’t they saying that they were going be ready for a full release by the end of the year, not just early access? Or has the line between finished release and early access become so blurred by the amount of pump’n’dump early access junk that we can’t tell the difference anymore?

Bah! Grumpy old man says get off my damn lawn!

I feel like this game should have went the themepark mmorpg route rather than being a PvP sandbox. I’m skeptical this title will reach any longevity with mostly PvP player driven content. Plenty of PvP sandboxes out there as competition, and with the Red giant approaching they really should have filled in the genre gap elsewhere.

It was never a pvp sandbox

It was a Disney shooter

Now it’s just dead

Yet both PvP and sandbox are tags on the article *shrug*

I want to play this game as a finished product which means unless next year’s Read Dead is a total disaster, I won’t be playing this ever. The last Red Dead is one of my favorite games ever and the ending is my favorite ending to a video game. Period.

The online component of read Dead always made me pine for an 1800’s Western MMO. Now that a sequel is coming and I know what to expect from the feature set thanks to GTA Online, I may have to take a pass on this unless the praise for it in the coming years is overwhelmingly positive.

They really were planning a soft launch already? Gosh didn’t see that coming… looked like there was still a ton of work to do, despite the strides made in relatively a short span of time.

Polish it to a product worthy of a shelf, don’t be that guy peeps. Early access isn’t a byword for pay-to-betatest…unless you are out of cash to finish the game, but then you have bigger issues on your hands.

I think the play here is: beat Red Dead Redemption to market. If they release anywhere near it – it doesn’t matter what the game is.

Armsbend is right. If they don’t launch prior to red dead redemption then they are screwed. And even if they do, they definitely are going to have issues keeping the player base from jumping ship if they don’t have deep systems that cause players to be invested for the long haul.

if they don’t have deep systems that cause players to be invested for the long haul.

Alternatively, they might just be aiming for a fast cashgrab and be content with what they managed to put in their pockets?

Not unusual, not something that has never happened before

to be fair based on my time playing here and there there have been marked improvements since teh w/e this phase is called has been going on.

that being said the lack of pve mobs really hurts and the economy tuning needs to be much better with prices lowered signficantly if they are going to do corpse loot on death (for bandits).

but i have to say i do enjoy my time with the game when i do log in. it’s kind of charming in different ways even if some of teh animations are janky among other issues.
