Conan Exiles might have to cut some PC features for launch

This week’s Conan Exiles newsletter covers some of the changes coming to the PC version (a plant-harvesting sickle!) and hints that the team might be cutting some of the planned features to get the title launch-ready.

“We’re reviewing the various features to look at what we’ll be able to implement, what needs to be scaled down and what, unfortunately, might need to be cut before full launch,” Funcom said. “We’ll be able to do a lot in four months, but we won’t be able to do everything.”

If you were thinking of picking up Conan Exiles on Xbox One or PlayStation 4, do it very, very soon. As we reported earlier this week, the price of the early access survival sandbox will increase on consoles from $35 to $50 to bring it in line with the pre-order pricing. However, the studio is also throwing a sale before that price increase arrives, selling Conan Exiles for $17.50 from December 8th through the 10th.

The PC version will remain at $30, as it will see “a very small retail presence and at a different price tag at launch.”

Way to screw those of us who have been around since day one. Makes me want to request a full refund.

How did they screw you over? It’s a project in Early Access. As of right now, you got everything that you paid for. As far as I know, nothing major was removed from the game. Understand what you’re paying for before you pay for it. Early Access.

Honestly hard to remain optimistic about this game’s launch if it’s coming in four months.

Four months does not seem like it’s enough time to fix all the issues with the game when they still haven’t been able to fix a number of them in nearly a year.

The articles title is a little OVERLY dramatic and misleading at first glance Justin. They aren’t “cutting” anything per se. They just may not get to some of the other features they were hoping to get in pre launch and will instead get to them post launch.

So in effect nothing is happening. Joel has explained this on the stream a bunch of times they have a list of things they want to do and they are all in a list in the order they would have to be done, all planned out with a way in which they would work etc.. the order of implementeation because of how they would work is pretty fixed.

The only issue ever is if and when the next thing on the list gets done and that is affected by a gajillion day to day prioprity changes that occur in development on any given day.

But the plan never changes, the feature list is there and they want to get to them. And if they don’t get to them pre launch they will hopefully get to them post launch because in success everything is possible.

But nothing has been cut as cut implies taken out or removed, and in order to be taken out or removed it first had to be implemented and In, which none of their future features list are.

If as you say those features are things that were originally intended to be in before the launch but are now being delayed until after the launch, then they have been cut from the launch.

No they were not things that were “meant” to be in before launch. They have a features list they are working through of things they would “like” to have. NONE of them are (or were ever) garunteed, Joel has been SUPER clear on that fact. Right now they are in a polish and bug fixing phase and practically none of the feature list is being worked on other than what pertains to what they are polishing etc.

You’d have to watch their monthly Twitch streams that Joel and Jans do, they spell all this stuff constantly out so as to avoid these kinds of misleading statements.

So nothing NOTHING is cut, additional features beyodn what pertains to their polish is not an importance atm. If they get that done sooner rather than later then the next feature gets worked on now..otherwise later all being well. But nothing they have said they hoped to do has been cut or ruled out from being added for good. It is simply a matter of prioritising the time they have.

Pre Launch, Post launch is all kind of moot anyway its not like development will stop on the game post launch they have been clear on that too. It is simply at some point you have to stop saying its early accesss and release the thing lol

Sounds like the suits @Funcom are flexing their muscles. That is usually bad for the development team. Totally agree with @BalsBigBrother below. That would be the Funcom way.

Im STILL waiting for them to fix/improve/simplify the ability to host your own server.

I also would really like an option to “Group” in game, and to be able to at the very least, have directional arrows on the side of the screen pointing in the direction of group members.

Half my time playing this game is spent trying to figure out where my buddy is at.

Need it to be immersive? Simple. Make a craftable compass item, and when you hold it/equip it, it points in the direction of your friend/group members.

Or…delay the launch and get the features in.

That’s fine. “Launch” doesn’t mean anything anymore anyways.

Will we get our living cities or even just good npc sandboxing? What about attacking npc armies are we still getting that?

Yeah, I’ll be very disappointed if the NPC sandbox elements don’t make it in.

This game like every other survival EA needs loads of work still. The game is still a janky, laggy, half finished game. They need to fix the core game first and foremost.

Current state of Xbox

In order to make sure that everyone gets a fair chance to get into the Game Preview before we increase the price we’re running a special 50% discount sale on the Xbox One version of Conan Exiles from Friday December 8th to Sunday December 10th. If you’re still on the fence you can get in at a very low price. The discount will be 50% off the game’s current price, so you’ll be able to get it at about $17.50.

No mention of PS4 for this sale. Appears to be Xbox only.

According to this, I wouldn’t advise anyone on PS4 to run out and buy it. I’d wait until they say something specifically about PS4 and a sale in the same sentence/paragraph.

If you buy on PS4, you are paying more for less features than the PC and paying more than Xbox1 players for the same exact thing.

Cut features for sale as future dlc lockbox, pay $20 for a chance at activating one of the features that were cut but of course you could just get a rock :p

With the way the industry is these days, I’d tend to agree with you, if not for Funcom’s universally abysmal record of releasing polished, finished content on any sort of timetable. ;) I suspect they just can’t fully get it together with this title (and I somehow doubt they ever will), so they’re just going full steam ahead anyway toward a release.
