WRUP: Totally accurate stuff about The Last Jedi maybe probably edition

In the latest installment of space shooty-bits, we find out that the eponymous Last Jedi is actually a dude named Ralph because Luke Skywalker quit. (We see that scene in a flashback. He walks into Ralph’s office and tells him that he can take the job and then perform anatomically unlikely acts upon himself.) Ralph tries to hire Rey as another Jedi, but Rey fails the written portion because she cannot identify the parallels between two different Robert Frost poems in 500 words and she keeps misspelling Kashyyk.

Not the wookiee homeworld; that’s Kashyyyk. This is a different planet that’s spelled Kashyyk. Totally different thing.

Elsewhere, Kylo Ren asks Finn to teach him how to dance because otherwise Mean Mister Snoke is going to tear down the rec center if Kylo Ren doesn’t win the big county dance-off with a $2,000 prize. Finn responds by piloting the Evangelion into the rec center, proclaiming no one gets to have it. Then Captain Kirk and Boba Fett get married and fly off on a pegasus. It’s the feel-good something of some time period or another. Let us know what you’re up to down in the comments of this week’s What Are You Playing, and don’t actually drop spoilers there because that’s being a jerk.

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): It’s console party weekend for me, so while Pokemon Go will probably happen at some point, I’m looking forward to some Super Smash Bros for Wii U, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, maybe some Marvel vs Capcom 3 and other local multiplayer games. I also gotta make time for Final Fantasy XIV because even if I haven’t bought it, the game lets me pursue that Santa Bear mount that I didn’t realize I need.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Realistically, I won’t get to play jack – I’m deep in the throes of trying to finish dozens of articles and prep for the holiday. This is exactly why I never get to see any of the winter events! Just too busy. I got a bunch of stuff patched up on my laptop though, so we’ll see. I’ve kinda been itching to go back to The Elder Scrolls Online.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): I’m actually going to see The Last Jedi on Saturday, but otherwise I’ll be playing FFXIV, World of Warcraft, and at long last NieR: Automata. That last one has nothing to do with online functionality, but it’s a sequel to a franchise I quite enjoy.

Justin Olivetti (@Sypster, blog): I’m kind of picking and choosing which holiday content to pursue, but Lord of the Rings Online’s new winter elk mount has me eager to do Winter-home all over again. I’m having a lot of fun with my Hunter in World of Warcraft, trying to get to level 10 in Dungeons & Dragons Online to do the new Ravenloft expansion, and am slowly climbing the Orochi Tower in Secret World Legends.

Haven’t seen Last Jedi yet, but Force Awakens would have been a complete disaster without Kylo Ren. The best part of the whole movie is when he removes his helmet and you gasp – you were sure he’d be burned and disfigured just like Vader.

I thought it was completely ridiculous that people who haven’t trained with a lightsaber could hold their own with him. Being “force sensitive” isn’t enough. Luke had to undergo extensive training to battle a Sith Lord. But Rey and Finn can battle one and not be decapitated or dismembered in the first few strikes? AAAAGHH!

I will now go calm my nerves and contemplate the ridiculousness of expecting anything resembling logic or accuracy in a Star Wars movie or its plotlines. Dilly Dilly.

I havent found any MMOs worth playing recently. Only thing I have installed right now is Dark New Dawn, but itll be wiped soon so there isnt much activity. Ive just been trying out some of the new patch content. DND is basically 90% of the original which is mostly a good thing. But we’ll see if these Devs treat it better and improve the game. All the old flaws are there too, like crappy gfx. Here is my RamHorse

Decided to reinstall/resub to Champions Online today. Last time I logged in was 1,931 days ago. That’s a very long time. I have to learn the game all over again. But my characters are still there. Meet Warden.

I’ve been playing regularly since the last anniversary event. Much like the Star Wars movies, once you accept the thing for what it is, you can actually enjoy it and not merely be disappointed and critical. However, you will be frustrated… that’s just inescapable with Champions Online.

So far it’s pretty much how I remember it. I subbed because all of my characters are freeform, so it doesn’t make sense not to. I’m re-learning how the game works, so I don’t have a final opinion yet. It’s the only superhero MMO in town at this point and I had an itch to scratch. STO’s been my only MMO for a long time and I need a break.

Replayed through Destiny 1 and man Rise of Iron -the last expansion rushed out as filler due to D2’s delay- makes Destiny 2 look so bad in retrospect. I remember when it came out people were so surprised by its tone and going “Halo 2, is that you?” and i just wonder what happened to the people that made it as they dont appear to have had any major influence in the style of D2 which is so safe and bland in comparison.

I really liked Destiny 1, but yeah, Rise Of Iron was my least-favorite expansion there.

For me, it was the fact that I was happily playing a game which wasn’t about medieval-fantasy things, and then they tried to bring in “Destiny Future Vikings”, if you know what I mean.

I know that Destiny is actually science-fantasy, like Star Wars, but I like the science-y flavor.

I mean, I can get angry, muscle-y people with big sharp melee weapons in something like 70% of the games out there — did they really have to bring them into my Destiny game as well? :-)

Cheers,

Been spending a lot of time with the PC version of Romancing SaGa 2. I’m a big fan of the SaGa series in general so I was happy to finally give this one a try.

I’m drowning in my new playthrough of Breath of the Wild, too. It’s devouring most of my gaming time despite the fact that I’ve already finished it and that I have other huge RPGs on my plate.

I’m really trying to stay in the moment and enjoy myself instead of biding my time until Monster Hunter World.

Today is Splatoon 2’s ugly sweater vs. ugly socks Splatfest, and I’m team sweater, going for the highest participation rank. So far I’ve had a decent amount of wins with the new N-Zap ’89 weapon (it looks like the orange NES lightgun).

Later on, I can nearly guarantee there will be some Final Fantasy XIV happening this weekend. It’s good to be back!

Maybe NieR: Automata as well. I bought it months ago but just got around to starting it, and I think I love everything about the game so far. So many good games came out in 2017! If the year is remembered for nothing else good, it at least has that fact.

Reader
rafael12104

Splatoon 2! Another great game.

Oh… Nier: Automata. Yup. Just hang in there and work from ending A through to E. You will shake your head with approval. Make sure you are online, there is a need to be online. If you get there you will see what I mean.

And, yes. It has a banner year for single player games. There is no question about it. And the multiplayers games have complimented it nicely. Too bad it is now mired in the muck, and what people will remember is SWBF2’s failure and AAA greed.

I already got NieR: Automata’s ending W if you know which one that is. :P Instead of discouraging me, it made me want to become much better at the game. It also helps that Yoko Taro is a weird person in the best possible way, and I want to play through the story to see the fruits of his unique (and intoxicated) mind in action. So far, I do well enough on bosses, but groups of various small enemies give me problems.

A lot of the things I’ve been playing are either finishing up, or dwindling away, so I’m kind of thrashing about for something new to try without breaking my budget this close to Christmas.

Weather’s crap here, so that only heightens my desire to play a good game and ignore said weather.

I’ve basically finished Agents of Mayhem — there’s still repeatable open-world stuff to play with, but the actual story component is done.

I loved the game. Exactly the kind of game I needed when I needed it.

I suspect we won’t see any more of the franchise, though, considering how it wasn’t a huge hit; probably the next thing we’ll see from Volition is more Saints Row. I’ll miss AoM — it sure was fun while it lasted.

I’m still liking World of Warcraft quite a lot, but since I’m not really a fantasy-gamer first, I’m very much itching to play something more science-fictional.

Destiny 2 is fun, for sure, but I tend to burn through its content pretty quickly (because I enjoy it). The Curse of Osiris was more like The Mild Headache of Osiris, in terms of how long it lasted. Not sorry I bought the DLC, but it’s pretty much done now.

I’ve been eyeing the early-access game Stationeers over on Steam, but it may actually be too complex for me to enjoy. I don’t have an engineering degree, and I don’t plan to get one just to play a game.

As usual, I’ll let you know here if I find anything interesting, folks.

Meantime, take care of yourselves, and may you get to see The Last Jedi before some random arsehole out there genuinely spoilers it for you, if that’s your movie of choice this week.

Cheers

No one else trying OrbusVR? Tried it a bit, and it was extremely strange playing an MMO in VR. Physically seeing and hearing people in the village added a completely new dimension. A group of newly minted wizards were practicing their spells in the village green by drawing shapes in the air, helping each other out. I tried to heal myself with poison until a friendly fellow musketeer walked up to me and pointed out the healing shot was a similar colored orb. I ended up relaxing in my house after the crowded and loud village. Can’t wait to try some peaceful fishing.

All in all, very interesting and I’ll keep playing. While it’s rough like you’d expect a first-gen game to be, the much more social atmosphere of VR works extremely well for an MMO. In fact, it’ll probably be too social for some MMO players, as one of my friends turns off her mic for this very reason.

..swtor…holiday bonus allowed me to reach the original 50 level cap. Something unlocks but I don’ remember or care much what. I now have an unbelievable 6 companions and I’m feeling very boxed in on my own ship. They all talk too much except Oyzgen so I just use him. At least when he talks if I don’t look at the chat box I don’t know what he is saying, so its just grunting. One last planet to go. If you can’t use Cartel Coins on the Hutt expansion, that will be the end of the line for me. Thankfully, holidays are almost upon us, I can take up most of my time over next two weekends with family and traveling.

Hey. can any of you SWTOR players tell me where on the UI I can find the missions my companions can go on to build skills. And if its not on the UI, where in the heck is it?

Reader
Sray

By default, the B button should bring up your crew skills window. From there you’ll be able to have them work on various crafting and/or gather skills.

The expansions are not available to be purchased with cartel coins; but if you’ve been a subscriber for even one month in the last two years (since the launch of KotFE) you should have access to Rise of the Hutt Cartel, and Shadow of Revan; plus at least some of Knights of the Fallen Empire.

This week: I was doing a brief jig in the wee hours of this past Tuesday morning after taking a rare peek at the news. It’s was a very rare occurrence…one that even surprised myself. I am pretty sure the neighbors didn’t appreciate it. As even a small Gnome jumping up and down repeatedly on wooden floor boards can generate significant noise. But yeah…I had to get that burst of excitement off my chest and pigtails. <3

Also this week: Blade and Soul, with a small program notice to Mr. rafael…

I won't be on there as much due to cutting a deal with my guild leader back in WoW over on GoblinStar side. She wants me to get my all class Goblin cheevo for the guild, where I max level respective toon. Since I am the only one in the guild rolling Goblins…the weight of this expectation falls upon me. And she offered to boost least one them, so there's that incentive. And I have four left to do; that is, Priest, Warrior, mage and DeathNote Knight.

But Mr. rafael should also realise that simultaneously I am working on my all class Lyn cheevo as well. And one out of the four is a least getting close to that. So I'll be going back over there as much as I can to meet that goal! :)

And next week: It's that Ho, Ho, Ho time again! Until then, have a great week and weekend folks! <3

Your peek at the news was pissed on with the repeal of NN. This week was the worst week for consumers, regular people in the modern history of the United States. I am also playing: “research the hell out of g-sync monitors.” It’s a three-pay-period month so I can finally add one of these to my new PC but… which one?

I’m torn between the Dell TN panel or taking my chances with an IPS. I’ve never seen an IPS screen and I’m scared of the “IPS lottery” but… those of you with high end monitors: how did it go? Which did you choose?

Zulika Mi-Nam
Reader
Zulika Mi-Nam

I bought this IPS GSync in April ’16. Easily menu OC’d to 100hz which made my old video card cry. I was concerned with the pixel lottery, but all of them were normal.

It does have the IPS bleed in the corners when most of those areas are dark. This effect can be seen in some of the customer pics in the review section. Mine is not as bad as those picks so I guess there are 2 lotteries when it comes to IPS, but I think it also differs with how you setup the brightness/contrast/etc. There is a camera pic of it with DOTA on the screen further down in the comments.

Personally I got the Dell TN. This one, specifically:
http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-24-gaming-monitor-s2417dg/apd/210-aizs/monitors-monitor-accessories

I got it cheaper about a year ago on a Black Friday sale from Amazon though. You do have to do some color adjustment with it since the color is trash right out of the box. Default is super washed out and borderline unusable. I had to look up some color guides to get good settings on it in the Nvidia control panel. Once I did though the color is fine. Not as good as an IPS but I was able to get it quite close. Close enough that it doesn’t bother me. IPS will always have better color accuracy but TN is faster for gaming needs. I keep an older IPS as a secondary monitor off to the side for watching streams while I play.

The G-sync and high refresh on it really makes a difference. I can’t go back anymore lol.

Reader
Sray

What’s your main concern? If it’s gaming, go TN. If there’s other stuff you need it for, then IPS can also be good for gaming, but you have to pay attention to the stats, and particularly you’ll want a higher refresh rate than standard 60 fps.

Keep in mind that g-sync will be at least $100 more than a standard or free sync, but apparently the difference in the variable refresh rate is amazing. But since you’re researching this, I assume you already know that.

I watched The Last Jedi on Thursday night, I really dug it. It kinda makes me sad that J.J. Abrams is doing Episode 9. Don’t get me wrong, he did a fine job with The Force Awakens, but I feel like that matched his style of copying others with polish. I might be wrong, he apparently pitched the story today so maybe it’s going to be cool, but I do feel like someone with a bit more ambition and originality could have been a nice pick for the conclusion of the trilogy (whatever the storyline is meant to be lol).

The new films are cool, but they do leave me a little well… numb. I don’t get much after them, I enjoy them a lot while watching, but I don’t feel much afterward other than “that was cool”. Heck, even the prequels left a deeper impression on me (granted I was a child so I thought then those films were sweet because of pew-pew lasers).
But still, totally worth a watch. I really loved the cinematography, Rian Johnson has chosen very well in using Steve Yedlin as his go-to DOP.

Not much gaming again, I helped a mate move into a new apartment so that was a lot of shifting and lifting. The supermarket I work at is going through huge changes and coming up to Xmas meant that I got overtime a lot which is sweet for the extra dosh. Internship about to close up for year so its just been busy. Sleeping in late as well, so I am not getting to enjoy the sun as much as i’d like too.

Oh Amazon just launched (locally) in Australia, so been testing that out for Xmas gift shopping. Games way cheaper on there in some cases, so hoping that over the summer break I will finally get around to playing some damn games. I still need to feel the edge with Sonic Forces and make my OC magnum opus!

Opposite for me. It is killing bog box/malls but small time retail is flourishing. Even niche bookstores are doing well where I live.

It depends. It destroys big box stores and helps mom and pop retail imo. So if you are pro-giant parking lots and malls then yes, Amazon will destroy them. If you are pro-craftsmanship and locally owned goods then Amazon frees up people’s time and money to utilize those.

Ah, ye of the unwashed masses. The Last Jedi? I saw it on Thursday night as any self respecting Star Wars nerd would.

The only altercation occurred when I asked Darth Vader which one of his buttons called his mom to come pick him up. I was quickly put in my place when reminded that I was the only old guy there. The teens and twenty somethings offered to get me a chair and asked if Life Alert knew where I was.

The result? More Blade and Soul this weekend. It makes me feel young. I run and jump and may fall, but I always get up, as you can see in the clip.

Oh, a PSA for Uta and all BnS players: Guess what showed up on the BnS test servers in Korea this week? Lyn Gunslingers! Nope, not even kidding. Too bad it will take a year, at least, for us to see them.

Played through the battlefront 2 single player story driven episodic free dlc which is VERY much like GW2 in that way and it was perfectly…boiler plate stuff. Elder Scrolls: legends continues to be fun with the expansion decks that came out.

I’m still continuing my march toward 60 in BDO a little at a time and I’m playing Breath of the Wild still because it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played and I could see dropping almost as many hours into it as I did with Skyrim except Skyrim had mods so it has the edge.

My world is starting to get back to normal in time for Christmas. New roof is on, and it looks fantastic. New floors are in, and they’re great. Hole where my tooth used to be is still tender, but healing nicely.

I had a slight misadventure with “upgrading” to the Windows 10 1709 build via a clean install in the middle of the week (a bunch of hardware and software incompatibilities, was a nightmare); but I’ve rolled back, and from now on will wait for Windows update to do it when the issue with my system should be sorted out. And finally, I’m playing around with the new Firefox browser: it’s really fast.

And now, I’m playing with evil. All sorts of evil.

There is the usual flavor of Acti-Blizz evil “tastes so good that you’ll make any excuse to justify it as not evil when you know it is” in Destiny 2, but I seem to have hit a wall at light level 314 on my hunter, and at 310 on my warlock and titan. So that’s kind of killing my interest, thus I feel like I might be stepping away for a little while in order to avoid burn out.

And I just hopped back into the bold EA flavor of “give us your money and shut up” evil: I’m actually playing SWTOR again. I won Larry’s “how to fix SWTOR’s story” challenge last week, and got one of those “level 70 with all the story still ahead of you” tokens, so between that and their holiday double XP event, I grabbed the discounted 60 day sub thing off the Origin store (30 days in Canadian dollars is about $21, the Origin pack is $26 due to my Origin sub thing, so that was a no brainer in terms of value), and I’m playing SWTOR again. With double command XP and using double command XP boosts, I can safely say the command system is finally barely tolerable as primarily soloist, but only at the lower levels of it where your XP bars are much smaller: once your weekly bonuses are done, it still takes a lot of work to fill out one bar on the lower second tier, and that’s with the double XP and double XP boost consumables together. At the over 250 level, I suspect even with double XP it is still a terrible grind for non-raiders.

When not playing evil, I’m also squeezing in a bit of Super Mario Odyssey , Mario Kart 8 and Civ 6.

No pics or video shares this week: as I said earlier, I just got my OS back up and running, so I haven’t been doing any of that this week.

Have a great weekend everyone. Enjoy The Last Jedi, if you’re going to see it; and just be good to yourself, and those around you.

Reader
rafael12104

Lol. Ok. If you find yourself suddenly craving a loot box or a DLC? Stop, immediately and stick your head in that Canadian snow, there should be a lot of it, I think.

Reader
Sray

There’s not even anything good in SWTOR’s lootboxes anymore. Everyone bitches that they put all their effort into the lootboxes, but all the stuff now is just existing pieces that have been recolored. Even the lootboxes have become minimum effort for maximum profit.

I’m going to use this go around with SWTOR to spend the big chunk of CC I have there, which is a big thing that keeps pulling me back; play around with a few characters in the CXP system; and play a level 70 agent through the storyline to try to figure out the appeal of that story (I always thought it was decent; but it’s only a great second chapter bookended by merely adequate first and third chapters; whereas I always felt that the Knight and Warrior stories were consistently good through all three chapters). Once I don’t feel like I don’t have that loose end in all of that CC I purchased, it’ll be a lot easier to finally just let it go.

Reader
Kickstarter Donor
mysecretid

I must concur — almost everything in the store/lootpackalooza now is simply a re-skin, a re-color, or a slight re-imagining of something which was originally released some time ago.

For all that EA hypes the store and the loot packs, the contents are pretty underwhelming of late.

I find myself wondering, in all seriousness and without snark, just how many people are actually working on SWTOR content these days — and just how big the game’s development budget might be?

Yes, EA has more money than Croesus (Google it ;-) ), but that doesn’t mean they’re necessarily making that money available to SWTOR.

Sometimes, I suspect that SWTOR is now being made, maintained, and bug-fixed by three people and a cat — and the cat’s a known slacker.

Cheers,

Reader
Sray

Actually, I’m pretty sure that the cat is the only one doing any work around there.

and yeah i just let windows do updates when it wants to do them (usually when i shut down my pc at night before bed).

been having a bit of an annoyance with the beta razer synapse software for my new tartarus v2 myself. suddenly stopped starting with windows this week but on start up this morning it was updating so maybe it’s fixed now? we will find out tomorrow morning! :O anyways liking the device so far. it’s everything the orbweaver should’ve been imo.

I actually try to do a clean install two or three times a year: it wipes out a lot of junk that Windows collects, and forces me to actually evaluate and get rid of a lot of the junk I collect. Of course, that two ro three times a year usually ends up just being once a year, but it always feels good to get back to a clean slate.

For the service pack update, usually I let Windows do its thing, but it had downloaded the 1709 build and said that it required a restart to install, but wasn’t installing it. After a week of watching it sit there, I figured my installation had probably gotten corrupted somehow, so it was as good a time as any for a clean slate. And that turned out poorly. Had to get in touch with Microsoft support in order to get a ISO of the 1703 build, as they don’t keep older builds publicly available once the new ones roll out.Lesson learned, and I’m probably going to start collecting Windows ISOs to have something to fall back to in order to avoid the issue in the future.

should haven’t to reinstall for garbage collection anymore for many years now. and especially not in win10. >>

and oh yeah fall creator’s update requires manual restart to install.

and windows 10 discs and the media creation tool should update to teh latest windows build on clean install or reset during the installation process if you have a wired internet connection.

Reader
Sray

I was trying the manual update: it simply wasn’t happening. I couldn’t force it to install the update no matter what I did, or how many times I manually restarted. There was definitely something wrong stopping the update from happening.

The Windows ISOs don’t update to the latest if you don’t allow them to: you get asked during the process if you want to download the latest version, and you can say no so that you can install the older build.

As for garbage collection, yeah, it still happens. They can claim it doesn’t, but I can tell the difference after a clean install, and when I’ve been running the same install for about 6 or 7 months. I have no doubt that the garbage collection is due things I do, but that clean slate is definitely a smoother experience. I’ve got my reinstall routine down pat at this point: I can be back up and running in about three hours at this point.

I’ve been enjoying Bravely Default and Guild Wars 2 lately. I took a chance and got Bravely Default and Bravely Second on sale after researching them and so far I’m very glad I did. BD has a few quality of life features that address issues I have with the typical functionality of turn-based, grindy RPG’s of that nature. I quite enjoy the characters and voice acting thus far too.

In GW2, I’ve been partaking in the Wintersday dailies. I’m also in the middle of deciding what new character to make, which is always a big process for me as I need to get each one created just right.

Not sure what I’ll be doing tomorrow for my birthday aside from hoping to watch a Rollplay Oneshot with Jesse Cox acting as the GM. It couldn’t have been scheduled for a better day. I’m so excited for the sheer stupidity and laughs. A bonus is that there is no snow expected so I have a short break from shoveling.

Have a pleasant weekend everyone. And thanks to Bree and the rest of the MOP staff for these end of the year articles.

I went back to Destiny 2 for the new update. The Infinite Forest is actually a set of very limited playtiles with no trees and you can’t even go into it as many times as you want to. Since the game feels so good though I did spend a lot of time just going around in circles on the new planet’s small open area. I went from ~270 to ~305 with a good feeling of progression and made it to 310, but I am probably done until the next update.

No idea what to jump into or back into next.

Unfortunately I gots lots o’ RL thinkin’ to do so last night I broke out my thinking glass and my straw of +1 intuition and mindlessly watched pro DOTA . My glass is probably not as classy as your glass, my wine is more than likely much stronger than your wine, and yes I really needed the +1 of that straw.

Between the nerd fights, the nitpicking, the political reviews, and the treating of spoilers as more secure than the nuclear codes, any interest I had in Star Wars has kinda died off. Remember when we just went to the movies and had fun? I think I’ll finally catch up on Wonder Woman and Guardians vol 2 instead.

Speaking of, I’ve been scratching my post-Marvel Heroes itch with Marvel Future Fight. It’s a mobile F2P with all the caveats attached, but its… actually kinda fun? You get a D-pad, an attack button, and a number of special attacks based on your character’s star rank. You put together a team of three heroes, pick one to start, run through two or three short levels beating the snot out a horde of mooks, then finally take on a big bad. You can switch out for your other heroes on the team at any time, and there’s team bonuses and a RPS triangle that gives the game some level of tactics. The hero / villain roster is frickin’ huge, and they do a decent job of throwing free stuff at you. Again, mobile F2P, but I kinda like it. I’ve been working my way through story missions with Team Father – Alternate Universe Daughter Bonding Comedy: Cap Steve, Cap Sharon, and Bucky.

Oh, and there’s also Wintersday shenanigans. With the quaggan route I might actually complete the JP for once and get myself Winter’s Presence. It’s still kinda difficult for me and my middle aged reflexes, but ’tis the season of hope!

Wonder Woman and Guardians Vol 2 are definitely worth watching.

I feel WW gets a little over hyped by virtue of being the only truly good DC movie, but it really is a 8.5/9 out of 10: very enjoyable; good characters, cool action, and some big laughs.

Guardians Vol 2 is a lot funnier than Vol 1, but not quite as emotionally impactful. It needed two of the characters to have more shared screen time in order to give the climax more of the emotional gut punch they were going for. But even with that kind of big flaw, it’s still easily another 8.5/9 out of 10.

Additionally, Justice League is bad, but only in a “we were only aiming for mediocre anyways” way. It’s not offensively awful like BvS, but only because it felt like they were just trying salvage something that was unwatchable.

Here’s my own Star Wars spoiler: I haven’t seen any of the new Star Wars and have no plans to do so. Last ones I saw was Ep. 1 and half of Ep. 2 and then bounced because they were awful. Come at me, bros.

For games this week is Warframe as always. Mirage Prime was released and she looks fantastic. I already have her blueprint and chassis so now I just need the systems and neuroptics. Getting half the set in a day was nice. I don’t care too much for the weapons but I might as well pick them up as I go for the mastery rank.

After that I’ll keep fooling around in Destiny 2. I’ve hit yet another gear wall at 311. Can’t get past it. All the gear I got in the past week is 309 and under. I did manage to get a fun gun called The Colony. It’s a grenade launcher that shoots spider grenade robots. It’s hilarious watching them run all over the place and explode after grabbing things. Someone hiding behind cover and you can’t shoot them? No problem. Fire off some spider bots and they’ll run around the obstacle, grab their face and then explode. Good times.

Wrapping things up with getting restarted in FFXIV. This one was a bit of a surprise as I managed to recover my original account from 1.0. I was then informed that Heavensward is included with the Stormblood expansion and I was able to find a copy of it for $27. I just need to get my sub info set up and I’m back in business. Seems like I have a whole lot to catch up on. I don’t even know what server my old character is on since they merged servers. I’m quite pleased to get that account back as it was an original Collector’s Edition. I don’t know if anything from back then transferred to the new version but I won’t be upset if it didn’t. Either way, it’s going to be weird being back on a character I thought I’d lost in a game I never thought I’d be playing again. Kind of exciting though.

Update: after writing this I watched Rouge One for the first time this day. I agree it was the best Star Wars film I’ve ever seen. better than the first three outside of the fact that the world was created within those movies.

Not only is Disney better at Star Wars but they are much more ballsy with the storylines – not speaking for the newest one – which I havent seen yet.

It was very cinematic sure and the battle was good (Battlefront map was sweet), but the story was whatever.
They built up this whole idea of the team, but they were all so underdeveloped. Jyn was a dull protagonist as well.

But the trailers at first showed a better film, they did serious reshoots/reedits of the film, I can’t help but feel the original version might have been what I was after.

Each to their own, but I felt like the ending for the characters was unearned edginess. The tech to bring back dead actors was neat, but also creepy as all hell.

Spoiler
Darth Vader honestly felt like pure fan-service.

Jyn is quite different to Rey, but I am not sure in a good way. Rey is (at least in Force Awakens) good-vibes. Rey along with Finn was fun, fast and energetic. Her good-intentioned enthusiasm for me was infectious, I wanted to go along on her journey.
Jyn gave me nothing, she felt more like an extra from Daria.

The whole backstory with her father needed far more development to work, like if they had spent more time perhaps at the start with her as a girl with her parents and if they showed deeper troubles with her internal emotional struggle from the aftermath then it could have worked other than stone-face badass.
Oh and Forest Whitaker was criminally underused.

Back when I was a long haired hippy guy playing in a band….the first place I ever played in front of a big crowd was a dinner theater that was 21+ that had half circle couches with a table and phone on it (this was a long time ago) to order food, beer, liquor, etc.

They would show a movie and then raise the screen to uncover the stage where bands would play. I was under 21 at the time though and never got to be on the customer side, but it looked to be an awesome combo.

I agree with BBB that the home viewing quality is infinitely better than the theater experience now.

This weekend I’ll be playing Destiny 2, The Division, and possibly Fortnite‘s Battle Royale.

I don’t think I’m the target audience for the BR genre but I do like the look of Fortnite and BR has been a way for me to explore the game and it’s mechanics without spending money on a founder’s pack. My strategy in the game is to avoid contact with all other players and then when I finally do run in to someone, I resign myself to a quick death. I’ve ended the match in 5th place (out of 100) using this strategy so it’s actually pretty effective. I’m basically Rue from The Hunger Games.

In The Division I’m really just putzing around but I am so glad I gave this game another try. It was incredibly frustrating to me when I first played earlier this year during a free weekend but now that I have the hang of it, it’s a lot of fun. I’m not very far along at all in the vanilla game but I’m picking away at the content one mission at a time.

And then in Destiny 2, yesterday I finished up the remaining adventures and missions that I had in the EDZ and so this weekend I will move on to Titan in order to do the same there. Destiny continues to be my favorite game to play and the game I look forward to the most.

He drove to the the circle early each time and sat there while everyone else was shooting around him. When it got down to him and the last person he just ran him over as he didn’t even pick up any guns as far as I can remember.

Was pretty exciting near the end because all anyone had to do was check out the vehicle and he would have been toast.
