Massively OP’s 2017 Blooper Awards: Best MMO crosspromotion

Massively OP’s not-so-serious end-of-the-year awards continue today with our blooper award for Best MMO crosspromotion. And the winner is…

Final Fantasy XIV’s Stormblood blood drive

This is the genre that literally spawned the transmedia synergy meme, but this is easily one of the best: As part of its Stormblood hoopla, Square-Enix partnered with the Red Cross to ask E3 attendees to donate blood, complete with a Stormblood-themed bloodmobile on site at the convention.

A ridiculous pun and a ridiculously good cause. Nothin’ better.

Reminds me that I haven’t donated blood in a long while. Used to do it pretty regularly. Can’t imagine doing it at a convention though. It knocks me on my ass for at least a good twelve hours whenever I give. I think it’s because I’m terrible at hydrating.

When I was in the closet I would give all the time. Now that I’m out, despite having a rare blood type, they don’t want my blood anymore … cause you could catch teh gay via blood transfusion and that’s just terrible.

Yeah, they’re funny like that. I’ve got one friend who can’t give because she was a military brat and lived in Germany when she was like eight, like 30 years ago.

CIG partnership with Faceware!

That was a pretty good one, almost worthy of a real award.

I agree – something like “Best Charitable Drive in an MMO”. You could add the myriad of Child’s Play drives, etc to the list. We get enough news about devs and/or publishers behaving badly, and seeing the good works happeneing out there is definitely a pick-me-up. On the flip side , the MassivelyOP crew already have a ton to do around the already busy year’s end, so maybe they could rotate some of these awards out from year to year (especially the bloopers).
