Black Desert’s first patch of 2018 awakens the Mystic and adds campsite feature

The Mystic class that just flew westward at the tail end of last year is already busying herself with awakening, live in Black Desert as of this morning’s patch. But if you’re not into the new class, the highlight is surely the new campsite feature.

“Set up your campsite wherever you like while you are out adventuring, and customize it to suit your needs,” Kakao writes in today’s patch notes. “Some of the features you can add to your campsites are: buying or repairing certain items, putting items in storage, doing currency exchange, and buying buff scrolls. Setting up a campsite should make it easier for you if you want to go off the grid to defeat monsters in remote areas, far from any towns or cities.”

Today’s patch also includes two largish events. Not snowing enough where you are IRL? “Get snowed under a mountain of snowflakes” in BDO! But maybe wear more clothes than the character modeling the event! Or not; this is BDO, after all. Wanna get your expies grind on? Fill up some Marni’s stones!

In other BDO news, Kakao announced that the game will launch as a non-sub buy-to-play title in the South East Asia region on January 17th; preorders are open now.

This is the kind of stuff that will make grinding in the middle of nowhere that much more enjoyable. I hated the desert simply for this reason; most decent camps were so far out, it was pure murder to keep going back and forth.

Plus, it feeds the fantasy of ‘medieval’ adventuring heroes, RP flavor stuff like that is always nice to have in a game.

I got my tent yesterday! After figuring out the costs of running an anvil, storage, shop and buffs, this is something that would greatly benefit people who like to get off the beaten path far away from towns and suppliers. Admittedly, there’s areas of the game I haven’t explored yet because it takes too much time to travel back and forth. This is a way to set up and not have to move for a week. I feel like the costs are pretty high for the add-ons to the tent, but then again, I haven’t gotten off in these areas to know how the gold flow is to say it’s worth it.

From a roleplay perspective, I adore these tents for adventuring type characters, or characters traveling. You can walk inside them, sit or lay down on a cot. My merc character will use this a lot.

It can be used across all characters on your account and remote collected.

Holy cow. A way to make a remote camp/city with access to those things? That’s pretty convenient to say the least.

I remember seeing videos from the Korean version mentioning that these are in most cases not cost efficient. Not playing the game anymore to be sure but it might be worth checking the mats cost.

How is this game now? I only touched the beta originally . I see its on sale now but it looka like it nickel and dimes you hard? Everything in these steam packs are temporary, storage and mounta are temporary ? Im
Confused but still interested.

The game is exactly the same as it was. The game being on sale matters only in as much as the Explorer’s Package is on sale with it.

The game doesn’t nickle and dime you hard but will offer to sell you a lot of things that will make the game more convenient. A lot of people get tripped up on things like weight or inventory being for sale and then thinking they have to have it. However they’ve changed a lot of the game to not make these things as bad such as reducing the amount of weight of trash loot you’d sell for money.

Value Packs are the game’s freemium subscription. You can buy more off the AH, but they are heavily contested as you can imagine. Getting 60 days will give you a good chance to feel out the game with the Explorer’s Pack. Everything else in the package is permanent. The only thing character bound is the Horse Whistle so you’d want to wait till you find the character you want to play to claim/use it.

Most people are going to want to spend $55 total, with $25 on the Explorer Package (on sale) then another $30 in game for 3 more pets (you get a coupon you can use) as well as an item brand you would want to use a permanent fishing rod (Epheria or Balenos). This will give you active income (grinding mobs with pets to pick up loot) and passive income (AFK fishing).

After that how much money you spend is how much convenience you wanna buy. It should go without saying they’re going to offer you lots of options to buy various upgrades but it’s perfectly viable to go without.

If you’re more of a stickler with your cash you can download a 7day trial from their website and level a character to 30-40. You can then post on Reddit saying you’re 30-40 with a screenshot of your character and people will most likely send you a free game code. This is because they get a rare pet for buying the game for $10 for someone else if that someone else levels to 30-40 which they get upon you activating your account with a 30-40+ character on it.

Thanks for the info, just to clarify is the steam pack worth the 25$?
Also why do i need to buy 3 pets? Do they do passive things the more you have?

Also, you don’t want to take character specific things until you’re sure what character you want to play. You won’t really know that till it hits 56. This is pretty fast and an experienced player can do this in a few days even without twink gear or in a few days with gear. Most of the actual in game gear however can be transferred, so if you get a high AP set of jewelry 51-56 (Asulas) then decide to reroll you can give that gear to them from level 1.

It would suck to level up to 56 as your first character, do it’s class awakening, get it’s new way of how the character plays, then be like “oh I don’t really like this” but then have your perma flute on it or weight unlocks or inventory space or costumes etc.

There’s no rush to unlock things, just make sure you enjoy the character you play first and foremost :)

The good thing about this is Awakening 2’s are supposed to be released this year, if I read the dev notes correctly. That means they’ll awaken the original weapons. I haven’t played a class yet where I like the Awakening weapons, so I work on life skilling and chasing down all the knowledge I can find in the meantime.

Yes the $25 package is worth it. I would make sure you get at least 1 bed with your furniture choices.

A lot of character progression is gated behind silver so grinding is very efficient all around (combat xp, skill xp, and silver). However having to manually loot everything is a huge chore when you’re AOE killing things in packs of 7+ mobs at a time. You’ll spend more time than looting. Enter pets, which will run around and loot for you. You can have up to 5 pets at a time, so if you get one from the $25 pack and 3 from $30 that’ll give you 4/5 pets out with room for a 5th free pet next time they do a free pet event (usually a penguin).

You can level the pets up and they get better, but I don’t recommend getting into that until later on down the line if you really want to spend more money on the game. I have 5 tier 4 pets and I never even get a chance to loot but it was a lot of money.

I usually recommend getting at least 1 Desert Fox and 1 hostility detection pet (dogs, griffon, turtle) to warn you if PvP flagged player is around. After that up to you.

The Item Brand is for a permanent fishing rod. Most fishing rods are temporary and run out of durability and can’t be repaired. Epheria or Balenos fishing rods are permanent and can be enhanced and repaired. Item Brands reduce durability consumption by 50% so that is effectively +50% durability with them. This lets you AFK fish longer which will increase your AFK income. A high end Epheria Rod (+10) with a Item Brand can fish for something like 16+ hours with high fishing skill.

So again, pets to make your active income gains good and item brand to make your AFK income gains good :)

Pets loot for you. That is their most important function. A level 1 T1 pet will loot once every 10 seconds. At level 10, once every 4. You can have up to 5 pets out at a time (and you can put them away if you are not fighting if you don’t need their other perks so they don’t consume food).

There is no area loot in the game and as you level, packs of mobs get more numerous and it becomes harder to loot everything you just killed before mobs respawn.

Pets also have some other perks based on their pet type: Cats give Life skill XP and can find resources. Birds help you gain knowledge of mobs, Dogs identify players flagged for PvP, Penguins reduce auto-fishing time. On top of that, at level 10 each pet will learn a random buff skill, which can be really helpful.

They are also very cute.

You can spend a lot of money on pets. Or not. But having a basic set will definitely make the game more enjoyable.

Unless something has changed since I played, cash shop bonuses to inventory and such aren’t temporary, but they’re locked to a single character—if you want to play an alt, you’ll have to buy inventory/weight/etc for that alt as well.

The only temporary thing I can think of are some of the free costumes, but I’ve been out of the game for several months.

He’s likely referring to the temporary value pack duration and horse whistles.

Haven’t played since May 2017. How is the Mystic to play?

Reader
Arktouros

Like most BDO classes these days they’re pretty easy to get into but always room to master it.

Over all Mystic leveling 1-56 went pretty effortlessly. With all the changes they’ve done XP wise and new requirement wise you can pretty much follow doing the Black Spirit quests straight to 51. This will give you tons of bag space and you’ll hit all the relevant leveling areas while you do the quests. After that 51-56 was probably easiest character I’ve done yet and was able to over pull (I had to wait for respawns) that most other classes I’ve played are slow on.

Most of the 1-56 gameplay seems to be “Thunder Pound” (SHIFT+RMB) in between everything. So Thunder Pound, then hold LMB for the two flows off of it. Then Thunder Pound, then just hold RMB down for the Adamantine Combo. Honestly the CDs are so low you can just do these two back and forth or you can mix in Elbow Edge if you feeling like mixing it up.

Can’t comment on Awakening yet but all reports it’s pretty strong. Mystic won’t win any burst DPS competitions but from what I heard it’s pretty decent even post Mystic Awakening 100% nerf.

Thanks. Has the game made the Tamer “mount” any better? I remember being very enchanted with the idea of them but people poo-pooed the ghost dog as a crap mount, and pretty useless as a combat pet.

Reader
Arktouros

No the Tamer “mount” is the same.

Combat wise the dog was always more of a damage add but more importantly as a tool to increase the Tamer’s target cap from 7 (like most characters) to 14 since 7 more targets would aggro the pet as well.

Tamer over all is considered one of the better 1v1 classes when played well and I imagine since it’s heavily reliant on inter mixing awakening/non-awakening skills (Jolt, Bolt, etc) will get a huge boost when the “JIN” skills come as well.

Q and then RMB pretty much destroys everything in my experience that I’ve played Mystic.

I disliked the flippy floppy nonsense for PvE with Striker and still don’t care for it with the Mystic especially when the ground based abilities do way more damage.

The flips aren’t that bad, they add a bit of AOE when Thunder Pound is on cool-down. In my opinion the best thing about the mystic is the kicks, the one thing she has over the striker. With long leggy kicks (seriously the reach on the kicks is extreme), and a ton of damage it is one of the best ways to finish anything off that the AOE missed (just hold ‘F’ to kill).

Feels good to play. By far the easiest class I’ve played in the game though. I wish it had a bit more nuance to play. The animations are stellar as always (the game has the best combat animations of any mmo that I’ve played). If you are looking for a monk or martial arts class to play, then this is the one.
