Ascent: Infinite Realm’s 2019 launch is the future of Kakao’s international ambitions

Good news, Ascent: Infinite Realm! The future of Kakao’s international plans and possible acquisition of western development studios hinges upon your success! Not that the publisher behind Black Desert is hurting for cash or anything; no, it’s a simple matter of seeing whether or not lightning can strike twice. The international success of the latter title was considered a surprise, but if A:IR exceeds expectations, a recent interview with CEO Min Kim suggests that the publisher may look into more western development studios to purchase.

Of course, this is not something that the company expects to know for some time, as A:IR is not expected to have a full release until 2019, but the suggestion of the future is still there. The current belief is that quality sells internationally, compared to the prevailing Korean notion that breaking into other markets is difficult at best. If you’d like to see more products bankrolled by Kakao, then, you may want to keep a close eye on A:IR’s performance as it moves into beta testing.

Not sure what this is all about. Kakao is only publishing the game in the west. Bluehole is an entirely separate entity.

I think A:IR could be really good. When you look at the games published by Kakao (BDO, TERA, and PUBG) it seems they do actually have a good nose for picking winners and for choosing games that will translate well for the Western audience.

I hope they pick up Skysaga from Smilegate and then develop its economy and trading and crafting system with their expertise.

Another year wait? Booo! That’s okay. I’m getting my realism fix with BDO these days.

I hope Ascent: The Space game doesn’t get crushed by name confusion.

Dealing with Kakao is literally the worst part of Black Desert Online. They are abhorrently unprofessional. They know absolutely nothing about their game and every time they discuss the game it’s patently obvious how little they do know about it. They get the most basic concepts of the game completely and totally wrong that the main reason people tune in to the sparingly few livestreams is to see what new basic thing about the game they will mess up on.

if it’s in same quality class as BDO, then I am interested.

The quality is up there from what I’ve seen of Alpha gameplay but there’s one glaring issue in my eyes. It’s tab targeting hot bar madness. After experiencing BDO’s combat I just simply cannot touch tab targeting ever again.

Kakao is just a publisher who serves as a front man for the actual developers. This isn’t a Pearl Abyss game and has no affiliation with BDO at all.

My initial glance over tells me it’ll be more in line with TERA or Revelation Online than actually provide a deep game experience like BDO.

I’m confused, I thought this game was being made by the PUBG devs, what’s Kakao got to do with them?

Okay now -I- am confused, I thought the game was being made by Kakao…

Nope, developer is Blue Hole. I believe same as TERA.

They picked Kakao.
