Secret World Legends posts a quick teaser of the agent system

One of the first new Secret World Legends systems is coming soon, and Funcom posted a quick video of it this week to whet players’ appetites.

In a minute-and-a-half, CM Andy Benditt walked players through the basics of the upcoming agent system. This system works much like World of Warcraft’s order hall missions, Star Trek Online’s duty officer system, and RIFT’s minions. The idea is that players will recruit and collect support agents that can be equipped for their passive ability bonuses (three max) and sent out on timed missions with the hopes of bringing back rewards. The strategy here is to match up an agent’s traits with the mission requirements in question in order to increase the chance of success.

I like it. I enjoy the Minions system in RIFT. Just one more thing to do.

What i think? Exactly what i think about SWL: It’s a shallow waste of my time.

I think they should have just focused on finding improvements in TSW and new content, and not bothered with SWL, nor with whatever these ‘improvements’ are that aren’t really.

This looks foolish to me. Real-time hours and days….. no thanks. I hated that in EVE.

Personally, im sick of games that have gameplay elements that require me to wait hours and days of real world time, where im not actually playing the game.

Id rather have my time gated by forced grinding, than by force non-gameplay time restraints.

Agree.

This kind of “gameplay” should be relegated to a smartphone app or mobile client that you can do while you’re on the tram to work or sitting at the DMV.

The reason why they throw them in the game is that way, it looks like “content” to “play” and fools people into thinking they are actually playing something.

Was expecting something a la doff system in STO/minions in Rift/garrisons in WoW etc. but somehow…I’m still underwhelmed.

They need to start showing off S2 content ASAP, because this doesn’t get me remotely excited about coming back to the game. Still can’t believe we’re halfway through February and we’ve not heard a peep about upcoming content this year, Funcom continues to shit the bed and let the community continue to languish and fester.

It is so super-doubtful that we’ll ever actually see new, proper content. I’d be fairly confident to put money on that by this point. Talk of S2 was big during the re-launch and directly after, but as soon as they saw they weren’t retaining players in the numbers suggested by the initial weeks things really shifted toward showcasing the far less costly and intensive Agent System. They were pretty excited to hint about S2 awhile back, which has pretty much been shooed into the closet again.

We got a one or two token “we’re working on S2!” mentions yesteday on reddit, but I can’t say my hopes are high. The one screenshot they showed off of one of the maps being built a while back was…not impressive : /

Did everyone hear that sound? :P It was our beloved MJ squealing with delight: she will now have her very own Minions to send out on errands for her! *wink wink*

Seems very similar to STO and other systems of this nature, meh. I semi enjoyed it it other mmo’s have to actually play with it once it’s released to talk about it.

At least others know now that they haven’t dropped working on SWL, they can actually stop whining and qq’ing, like omg, peeps and their first world probs. lol Wait, oh yea mmo players never stop qq’ing, i wonder what they will complain about next? At least it is interesting with what they can dream up. Like remember that time when they released SWL, you know TSW done right version, and how they abandoned it and stopped working on it altogether.

At least others know now that they haven’t dropped working on SWL,… At least it is interesting with what they can dream up.

After a copy.. err…”rework” of TSW, if this is the kind of “new” content players can be happy about and “stop qqing” since June, it doesn’t say much.

Based on what work they’ve done since then, I’m not sure players should be as indebted and genuflecting to Funcom as you are suggesting they should be in your post based on a five minute mini-game and a rework of some skills, lol.

I mean, congrats Funcom! In six months time you ‘dreamed up’ a mini-game that at least six other companies ‘dreamed up’ before you! /golfclap

To boot, this is a system that’s designed to be heavily monetized. I’m not against developers making money and whatnot, but let’s be realistic that this was a system that I don’t believe there was ever much demand for (as opposed to a more proper outfit system in ESO, for example, even if it ended up being pricey as hell), doesn’t really provide any “content”, and is absolutely designed for folks to dump Aurum on. It feels even more pointless than similar systems in other MMO’s and like it doesn’t really fill any need/niche in SWL : /

As opposed to the content everyone actually WANTS and is excited about, which is the start of S2.

What really is worrying is that this is just the latest in a series of revisions, small additions and re-works that have occupied so much development time for years now. Years. EPE was three years ago, right abouts now. They’ve spent three years worth of dev time creating so little new content in a story-focused, content-driven game. Just pushing out S2 alone would have likely ended up a net financial benefit. There was a certain point where everything FC did for TSW was a direct response to an immediate set of complaints. They got so wrapped up in being player-centric and trying to improve the game that they stopped making new content. It wasn’t quite like that, of course, but I can’t help but think TSW/SWL has been squandering their brilliant potential for almost half-a-decade already.

Even my F2P crap gacha mobile games make more new content than SWL. They don’t deserve whales.

Agree. I wish they had spent most of the time on “story” and far less on “gameplay”.

It’s actually the one thing I like about ESO… I hate the gameplay but they have so many missions, side quests and storylines that it makes the game fun. SWTOR is the same way (story vs gameplay) but I actually like that gameplay vs ESO.

This system works much like World of Warcraft’s order hall missions, Star Trek Online’s duty officer system, and RIFT’s minions.

Or more like copying Skyforge’s old Adept mini-game.

Either way, they are announcing they have figured out a way to add five whole extra minutes of a mini-game, because that’s literally how long it takes to finish these systems each day.

I’m not sure which is worse:

a) to see that Funcom has no more original ideas and have simply resorted to copying other older game’s mini-game systems and presenting them as “new” in SWL or

b) copying their own older game (TSW) and then presenting that as a “new” one called SWL.

As a Day One lifetime member and watching them put out rehashed ideas just like everyone else, I think this finally puts me off of Funcom for good. At this point, it feels as if they are just insulting the player’s intelligence.
