Betawatch: Where have all the H1Z1 players gone? (February 23, 2018)
Oh, the many antics of H1Z1 have brought us so much joy over the years. Remember when the game launched into paid early access that it never seemed to leave? And remember when it got split into two games to chase the success of its unexpectedly popular battle royale version? And remember when it lost 90% of its players since July once there were competitors for that gameplay style? Ah, memories. Well, that’s all of them. Given all of that, maybe it makes sense that the game is at least approaching launch now… probably.
Do we have other beta news this week? You bet your sweet bippy we do, and much of it has significantly less schadenfreude.
- The open beta for Total War: ARENA is live now, for those tired of arenas offering only partial war.
- SoulWorker Online has its open beta fast approaching, with a big announcement next week to coincide with the game’s website launching. That sure sounds like an open beta announcement.
- Looking to jump into TERA on consoles? The open beta for the tile is starting up on March 9th, so you can start hacking and slashing as much as you’d like with a controller in your hand.
- Last but not least, February’s patch for Shroud of the Avatar is live as the game steamrolls toward launch. It’s happening soon! There’s not much time left.
And, of course, there’s a whole list of games down below, games that are forever in testing and those that are just in testing for the moment. Is something on there that ought not be any longer? Do let us know so we can correct it. Or just share beta stories in the comments, that’d be cool too.
As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
