Camelot Unchained has 126 days to get everything ready for Beta 1

One hundred and twenty-six days. That’s the current countdown timer reading as Camelot Unchained looks ahead to its July 4th beta launch, and it couldn’t have both the community and the studio more excited.

In the February wrap-up newsletter, City State Entertainment stirs up enthusiasm for the beta while also talking about the improvements made to the combat system, giving an overview of the state of the current build, and dishing out a couple of images of player-created castles. The team said that it has a lot of work in these remaining 126 days to get the combat balanced, stress test the servers, finish up the user interface, and more.

“Next, it will be our turn to make good on our promises and justify your faith in the game,” said the team. “We hope you hop into Beta 1 with us for an early taste of the RvR madness to come!”

I think I get access to it, I think it was included in the 190 upgrade.

Looking forward to CU more than any other MMO, I’m sure City State Leisure will do a great job :)

I am hopeful with this title. I am slightly more interested in it than Crowfall due to the scope and size of the world. I like PVP and I like RP and this seems like a better world for both.

Thanks! ACE is moving along nicely with CF so hopefully players of PvP/RvR will have lots of choices to look forward to next year.

Look forward to being killed by you then!

My PvP skills are well known as not being very highly developed. :)

now that i’ve backed and subscribed to their social media (twitter) i was pleasantly surprised to find out they do regular live streams like every week.

i’m not sure how long the streams are, but to contrast against a certain other studio that memes about open development with their constant marketting video spam, CSE just show some random worker doing his job raw live and unfiltered or narrated. i watched an asset artists working on trees for about 4 minutes.

no hyperbolic sexxing up about what’s being shown, no grandiose ever evolving and expanding promises, just good old notch style raw development on stream action.

time to match notch mark and notify us of when you take time off work ;) XD

DK, I feel bad for not discussing the streams and such in more detail. They also let you in on this information for free! No secret handshakes necessary!

They are as transparent as possible, IMHO.

The Friday video live stream lasts for about 1 hour: A weekly update + Q&A

i haven’t stayed tuned in for much longer than seeing video feed of office or video feed of someone working on nuts and bolts development work.

which i find pretty boring to watch even if when i’m involved in doing stuff i find it all super exciting to be involved and talk with other friends involved ina project what people are doing and where things are going.

for about as long as it ever lasts or goes anywhere which is neither long nor far XD

tehy also have super nice weekly news letters with development updates for backers.

straight to the point while still being meaty. no unecessary fluff or word count padding or over the top overly long disclaimers to be found.

and then emails for test sessions you have access to as well as tweets. it’s all very nicely done compared to what i’ve become accustomed to by another game, and reminds me more of some of other nice indie studios i’ve become fond of even in cases where i ended up not playing the game due to personal issues. :P

Thanks DK for taking the leap and becoming a Backer! And yes, we do try very, very hard to keep all of our Backers up to date on everything that is happening in the studio whether on the personal or business side. It’s not easy, but I believe we owe it to our Backers for their support and OMG, their patience right?

The good news is that you and our new Backers are coming in at a fun time. We’ve been running almost daily 100x100x100 tests and things are going quite well with them. The main servers have been running great, most client crashes are due to state of the unoptimized client, and the new ability system is working as needed. We are currently tracking down what I’ve called “The mother of all memory leaks” and once that is done (hopefully today), we’ll even run a weekend test. Past that, I’m looking forward to taking 100x100x100 to 150x150x150 once we improve the NPC code (they tend to bunch up too much at higher numbers) or get enough players in a battle. My hope is that by the time we hit Beta 1, we’ll have that number up higher for a single scenario. That will be fun. :)

Thanks again for the support and kind words, they are appreciated.

i’ve been hopping into wyrmling on random days for 15-20 minutes at a time and have to come clean and say i haven’t been doing the asked for testing exactly but just derping around with w/e mode it default loads to and playing with the bots (and the occasional fellow humans who rek me LOL). but i’m still slowly but casually learning the ui and what all is going on which is alot to take in still.

i guess the last test i logged in you wanted us to log in and out a bunch of times so i help with that a little tho! :D

but ye like what i am seeing even with the obvious rough edges. really looking forward to the current build being knocked out into the mentioned siege nights that include us b1 backers :D
