Path of Exile’s Bestiary expansion launches today, boasting 3.5M global players

Path of Exile’s 3.2.0 update, Bestiary, goes live on PC this afternoon with Xbox One to follow eventually; patching got underway a few hours ago. As we’ve previously covered in our detailed interview with GGG, the update includes the gotta-catch-’em-all critter capturing content, new endgame bosses, new gear sets, a new Act 10 quest and the complete ascendancy class revamp.

Of note? According to GGG, the Xbox One and Chinese launches “have more than doubled the Path of Exile player community since August 2017, with over 3.5 million players having played the game’s 2017 expansion, Path of Exile: The Fall of Oriath.”

Assuming all goes well with the servers this afternoon, we’ll be streaming the new goodies tonight at 8 p.m. EST on OPTV!

Get hype! Probably going to launch into this tonight or tomorrow afternoon. No idea what build I want to aim for. I had a lot of success with a Dark Pact totem build last league, might do a summoner this go around or try out the new Tectonic Slam skill.

Though I usually play Solo Self Found because I am a masochist. So my build plans might go astray depending on what loot drops for me.

Isn’t summoner a bad idea this league? I haven’t played yet, but from what I heard you’re supposed to get certain monsters to low HP so you can capture them. Trying to get stuff to low HP with summoner without having your minions finish it off sounds really frustrating.

The beasts stop being attackable as soon as you throw a net on them, so minions won’t kept at them in the process of being captured. Of course there’s still the issue of one-hitting things.

Minion builds and totem builds are struggling a bit right now because the threshold to capture is so quick right now. It is also tough to try to target the mob you want, cast the net, get the ‘kill’ all while things are blowing up around you and attacking you and there are a ton of effects on screen.

It is quite a frustrating mechanic all around actually but I hear GGG is listening and are going to be making some changes next week. One of which will allow 2-3 seconds to capture (so you can cast the net FIRST then attack, as opposed to having to try to cast mid kill)

Will most certainly be playing this over the weekend and beyond I expect.

Won’t be playing today as I have found it best to give it a few hours for the rush of players / servers to settle before jumping in. Playing right at launch of a new patch has always been a bit hit and miss so best of luck to MJ with her stream and hope you beat the queue boss to have a good one.

Good choice. The bestiary had issues, which GGG identified within 30 mins and had fixed an hour later.

Bestiary so far is fun, although skills that due DOT will have a bit of fun getting adjusted. I’ve netted more than a few who have died from my fire DOT skill. AOE and squishy builds will have to get crafty to beat down beasts and then capture them while kiting and trying not to over-damage their targets in the midst of a horde trying to kill them.

But, why else do we play?

Still trying to hunt down a shield throw build for baddies like myself, I just want to throw all the shields and kill all the things.

Gem just dropped for me on my Lazy Paladin. Not level 12 yet, so can’t quite use it, but interested to see how it works with a physical build.

From all the research ive done on the new spectral shield throw skill gem:

1. It probably wont be a good boss killer skill, focusing more on clearing lower health targets
2. It will probably be something used in dual skill builds, where you have a boss killing gem, and then shield throw for everything else
3. You wont ever be able to make a crit build with it due to its limitations
4. There are lots of passive nodes that wont affect it because its not considered the same thing as holding a melee weapon, which hinders its ability to scale as high in damage as say a melee build would.

Still looks really fun though, and I hope they can tweak it over time to be a viable skill.

I made one for my wife, using regular Spectral Throw for the boss damage probs, since they can share a lot of the same passives.

That sounds fun :) I think this league I’m going to play as an aurabot again
