Shroud of the Avatar officially launches today

The sun is rising over New Britannia today with the official release of Shroud of the Avatar. While the game has been in a persistent world state for hundreds of days now, the team at Portalarium considers Release 52 to be the mark at which the game leaves open beta and is now fully live.

The launch build patches in performance improvements, companions for the different paths, more polish, the ability to create multiple characters on an account, heraldry, combat balance, and the scenes of South Boundless Forest and Blood River Forest.

The website got a new landing page, and Travian Games is now operating its own Shroud of the Avatar website for many European countries inside of its publishing territory. Players who speak a variety of languages may be happy to see that the forums have published language-specific areas to accommodate them.

Stay tuned for our stream tonight at 8 p.m. EDT on OPTV!

I honestly don’t get it when people say this is a great game I mean you might as well be playing runescape first edition lotr everquest etc etc etc, I bought the 39 dollar version of the game and was like what the heck cant be that bad, boy was I wrong the map sucks there is no direction of story at all you jump up and down move left to right and that is the combat system so again I would just keep playing a game that came out ten years ago than waste my money on this game.

I felt a spark of something special when I played a recent-ish free trial. There was something about it that immediately grabbed me. I don’t really have a sense of what the game is about and there are aspects of the website’s main page that kinda confuse me. But I’m feeling adventurous and might just dive into it blind and see what happens.

Just checked Steam. Actually is on sale for launch, 15% off. Nice!

My time spent in the free trial had piqued my interest and I’m keen to venture again soon in it. I’m keeping my eye out for a steam sale.

Their landing page is sorely lacking in detail about game play and options. It’s simplistic like something made 10+ years ago would be. Where are the skill/spell examples? Where is information about the leveling system? Googling produces outdated results from when the game still had classes. How does the free trial work? How long can you play/what level can you go to? What are the restrictions on trial accounts? This does not seem appealing to me, unfortunately.

Glad I can finally jump into this. I tested the waters off and on early, but I don’t ever really do MMO betas where my character gets wiped. Looking forward to giving it a go!

I’ve been playing a lot lately. It’s ended up being a fantastic game. Unique in many respects. Feels like a living world as much as an MMORPG.

That would explain the 6 gig patch on Steam, i’ll give the game a shot once its downloaded later on.

Interesting to see how it plays, it has been so long since that kickstarter I backed lol and I have long since been removed, so it will be fresh going in.

It’s worth it in fact. See above comments.

Well – as I try to do for every game I’ll do it for Shroud – Congrats on getting out of crowdfunding. Now you can go be a real game. I wish the players and team the best of luck!

(please don’t do your lame telethons so I can keep this air of goodwill about me)
