Star Citizen homes in on the mobiGlas, checks in with the UK team, and rolls back alpha 3.1.1

The Star Citizen team is still riding high on the launch of alpha 3.1 last weekend. The latest episode of Around the Verse checks in with the UK team, which is working on, among other bits, interiors and exteriors of space stations and the tech to support them. Improved optimization, ship detail passes, and particle effects are also on the menu, and the audio team actually took a field day to play around recording banging metal up against other pieces of metal. Incidentally, I’ve just figured out what I want to be when I grow up, and it’s that job right there.

The larger half of the video revisits the mobiGlas system, which as Star Citizen watchers know is basically an elite smart watch with holograms that can tell the player everything about everything through a slick in-character UI.

Incidentally, CIG did push out 3.1.1 yesterday, but very quickly rolled it back to 3.1 because of a nasty “frequent crash-to-desktop” bug. The company stresses that the rollback is temporary but does affect insurance claim tweaks right now.

Real estate is moving towards the internet. A lot of people are buying and selling houses online without the help of professional real estate agents. Though buying a house online makes everything fast, it is important for a house buyer to know about a few tips before buying a house. Make sure you know how much you can afford before buying a house online.

The game is like 10 times more playable than it was in 3.0.

…so still not very playable, but it’s progress!

I used to think this game would release in sometime between 2019 and 2021 but these days I think I may have be a bit optimistic .

keep meanign to get into 3.1 more but busy elsewhere so not sweating it. i’m hesitant to give the green light despite my solid experience on 3.1 launch day without further solo testing or testing with my science buddy.

I told my corp to wait because the net code is still… amazingly… garbage after all this time. Arena Commander is fine but the PU I see smooth frame rate… then PAUSE… then smooth… then PAUSE… then smooth… then PAUSE. Also, I’ve had the game crash to desktop mid mission which will spawn you back at Port Olisar with no more mission and your ship will be lost in space requiring you to submit an insurance claim. This claim takes 30 minutes by default. You can expedite it for 500 credits but it will still be 5 minutes, and since the missions only pay out 100 to 300 credits, 500 is a pretty steep penalty. You could easily go flat broke just from crashes. Never mind ammo costs are through the roof relative to mission payout. Stick to energy weapons and do NOT use missiles unless you enjoy losing money on missions.

I believe the patch they rolled back was an attempt to reduce the insurance claim fees and time since so many people were going broke. Woe to the person with a single ship.

Still I was able to complete a mission… it was a ‘missing person’ mission which boiled down to fly to a waypoint and click a dead body floating in space, but hey I did it. I also had my first ‘oh wow’ moment in the PU when I flew to the moon Cellin, landed, got out and walked around just as the sun was setting between two hills. It was quite beautiful, and awe inducing considering I just came from Port Olisar and didn’t see nary a loading screen.

is this in 3.1 or 3.0? and how much ram do you have?

but ye the insurance mechanic timer is stupid right now considering multiple factors. i guess they want single ship owners to just log off the game if their ship needs claiming.

and ye the sunsets and rises both planet side and in orbit are gorgeous eh?

This is 3.1. I have 32 GB of RAM, Nvidia Titan X, Intel i7-7700k cpu, and a Samsung 960 pro SSD. I wouldn’t think I would be lacking on the hardware side but maybe?
