Star Citizen runs down ships and kicks off a free-fly weekend

On this week’s Star Citizen Around the Verse, I can’t decide whether Sandi Gardiner or Eric Kieron Davis has the cooler shirt, but it also doesn’t matter because internet spaceships! No really, this episode is all about spaceships thanks to the fact that the entire piece is one long Ship Shape segment, sales pitch, and tease for a new ship.

Well, almost the entire piece. If you stick around for the endcap, you’ll note that CIG has laid out a free-fly event all weekend, running through April 16th, meaning that everyone – even if you’re not a backer – can jump into the game and check out the 3.1 patch.

You can watch the whole episode down below, complete with a lot of handwaving (literally) from Disco Lando, plus the chart listing off all the ships (and which ones are actually usable right now) courtesy of Reddit.

If you can take the big download, I highly recommend trying this out. The game is still super rough, but it’s a good chance to see for yourself what condition it is.

Someone once said that SC has a huge gulf between what’s awesome about it and what’s awful about it, and that probably holds true.

yep. agreed. go see for yourself how the game is. even if all you do is go crash into a moon it’d be worth it lol

I’m hearing of people falling through their own ships, being killed by first aid kits (which is kind of hilarious) and getting stuck underneath planets. I’m kind of surprised they’re opening this up for the public to look at for free, in the state it’s in.

Because that’s what the internet expects from a crowd funded game, even though it goes against the logical, better judgement that non-crowd funded games still enjoy.

it probably dosn’t help that people have been sexxing it up with overly romantic videos that downplay or sweep the bugs/issues/shortcomings as they may be currently under the rug.

so now with word spreading that 3.1 is probably the most polished and therefore worthwhile to jump into version of the game so far, ofc people will be “shocked” by the state of the game based on the perception they had of it going into it.

i wonder when they’ll manage to get the snubfighter function of the connie working eh? XD

in the meantime it’s kind of hilarious that my whale ship will be flyable so soon all in all. but perhaps it’s a good excuse for a guild tour around crusader in luxiourious style :D

The 600i? Grats!

I get to shake my head and grin at all the “Carrack” jokes they toss around. One day…. one day I shall have it…

It will always be something.. and for good reason, tbh. No other game out there gives people a space ship fantasy quite like this. Who wouldn’t want to finally get to step foot in a meticulously detailed ship that calls to them so emotionally the way these ships seem to do for people.
