BioWare: Anthem will be ‘unlike anything you’ve played’

While not going into any details about the progress of Anthem’s development and testing dates, BioWare nevertheless attempted to prime the pump for fans’ expectations this week.

BioWare General Manager Casey Hudson wrote the first of apparently several upcoming posts on Monday in which he acknowledged the studio’s failures in delivering more stories for Mass Effect: Andromeda while also putting in a plug for a brighter future with Anthem. Hudson said that Andromeda’s DLC stumble led to BioWare “refocusing” its mission by not losing sight of the world, character, and storytelling in its games.

“It’s in that spirit that we are working through production on Anthem,” Hudson said “a game designed to create a whole new world of story and character that you can experience with friends in an ongoing series of adventures. It will be unlike anything you’ve played, but if we do it right, it will feel very distinctly BioWare.”

One possible thing in their favor here is that they get to completely rethink how to monetize what was surely a few months ago planned to be a game filled to the tits with loot boxes. They have luckily seen that back-fire brutally on the industry before they actually released the game or any details. Bullet dodged. Of course that is giving them credit for actually dodging the bullet. They may just stick their face in front of it anyway.

Nope…they will not be able to resist the virtue signaling in even more cringe-worthy ways.

I’ll call it will fail harder than the last Mass effect game.

BioWare hasn’t felt “distinctly BioWare” since they sold out to EA. This game has already had a rocky start. Forgive me if I don’t have a confidence in them going forward. I’m still reeling from their last foray into the MMO space with SWTOR.

IronSalamander8 .

They’re at least partially right. I’ve never actually played either Destiny game or the Division so if I did play this it would be unlike anything I’ve actually played!

Of course I have no plan of getting this one either. :P

How much do you want to bet it is the same dull, huge world with little in it, 2d characters, nothing interesting to do Bioware game that they have done since EA raped and killed it several years ago, starting with the Star Wars MMO?

Hmmm, if they can actually write a decent story again, it might be okay… assuming no other factors interfere.

On the other hand, I’m going to guess that it will be short, DLC heavy for $$$, with lots of cosmetics developed to sell in loot boxes, and with a story that is written by three random employees who have never even done a fanfic. It is Bioware EA, after all.

Mass Effect Andromeda was unlike anything I had ever played, never had I seen such terrible facial animations.
